Interesting. LVA is reporting that Binions will close in July. Maybe part, maybe all. Maybe just rumor. My favorite property downtown, so it looks like I had better use up my comps on my next trip.

If it were to close, which I would be surprised (however not surprised if JUST the steakhouse is closing) I would imagine it wouldn't be closed long. It's probably one of the best located casinos in all of downtown, has a long history, and would likely be scooped up by someone quickly (The D owner?).

The way I read it, has nothing to do with changing ownership, just for a remodel. It has some severe real estate issues that would take while to sort out before it could sell. Many different pieces of property, with different leases, and different owners. It was sad when it closed last time. A big dark hole in that block. It helped when they finally got the lights back on, but it still made that area empty feeling until Harrahs reopened it.

I would love to see it sold back to Jack Binion. He knows how to run a casino and hotel. We were regulars there every trip, back when Jack ran the place, and it was great until sister Becky moved in, and everything went to hell.

Slightly off topic, but did Ted's house ever get sold? I know for the longest time they had a heck of a time getting rid of it.

I read that the reason Jack Binion did not aggressively resist his sister Becky's successful attempt to take over the casino was that he knew that the casino was sorely in need of massive infrastructure renovations whose eventual costs were likely to be more than the casino could bear. Becky was such a poor businesswoman that she drove the casino into insolvency before ever reaching the point where she had to deal with the needed renovations. But the subsequent owners are dealing with it and it's a huge financial drain. Sadly, I don't think we'll ever see Jack Binion ever again wanting to deal with the financial mess that was once his flagship casino.

It probably needs serious work done. Beyond cosmetic work.

    Just a groundless rumor.

Terry Caudill was quoted in the LVA news section: "Neither the casino nor the steakhouse is closing"
"We have minor projects slated for the summer, but they're all positive improvements and there will be no interruption in operations."

I can't imagine anything major happening there until they can get all the land ownership and leases sorted out.
From talking to a few of the people there I know they wanted to reopen the mint tower at some point but I can't see it happening just yet - not until Caudill runs out of rooms on a frequent basis.

If I had a dollar $$$ for every rumor about some place closing or being sold, I could easily spend a week in Vegas giving it all back!

So as of today, all the hotels DT are open and no remodeling going on anywhere?
