What would a $2000 spend get me in comps?

So I'm a total Vegas newbie and going at the start of March staying at the Cosmo.

I plan on spending $2000 gambling, would this entitle me to comps etc? Sorry if its a stupid question I have no idea!

If comps would be offered what can I expect?

    No question is stupid.

You can't look at it this way. It's the amount of money that goes through a machine....not the amount of money lost. Each spin at a slot machine is money bet. For instance if you put $100 into slot machine and bet $1 per spin and lose on every spin, you "gambled" exactly $100. If I put a $20 into the same machine and bet $1 per spin but it takes me 200 spins before I lose my $20 then I would be considered more valuable then you are (at this point)....but you lost $80 more then I did. I "gambled" $200. Same is true on the tables.

So really, it's more about how long you play + the average size of your bets (longer play and larger bets are always better to the casino) and not necessarily how much you lost.

For table games you have to be willing to bet fairly large ($25 or more for BJ on strip casinos) and play for at least 4 hours to qualify for anything. The fancier the casino, the larger your bet will need to be. But for slots if you have 2k to gamble with and played at the same place you should qualify for some things. Really all of these casinos have slot club programs and points earned on your cards.

I'm not a huge comp guy so I'm sure someone else can give you better info but tell us what you plan on playing and betting and where you plan to play and people may be able to make comparisons for you based on their experiences.

really depends on how you spend it...

First off you would need to visit the customer service area and get a players card and use it anytime you gamble.

If you just simply put 2000 on red and bet it and loose it, doubt you will get anything in comps. If you spread it out and put in long playing streaks over a period of time you will earn some comps more than likely. Probably not nothing outlandish but offers to say the least. The casino's are more worried about your average bet and your time you spent playing more than how much you win or lose.

As said above - best explanation. But, based on my experience, that amount probably will get you very little. At CET casinos, you would surely get offers to return with free or cheap rooms. MGM "might" offer something, but not much.

Of course, we are all guessing on what your total amount bet will end up being. If you hit a few $2,000 jackpots before blowing through your original cash, and bet all that again, it could be much higher.

But, if you blow through your original budget and win nothing with a few hours, then even less will come your way.

Thanks all, I will play mainly slots with some BJ thrown in, perhaps a little roulette as well.

I'd love free room nights for another trip but not sure if that's realistic or not?

Like the previous replies, it depends how you gamble it. I'll sometimes go to Vegas with the same bankroll. I buy in for 1k and get all blacks. I'll play baccarat and when I get up 3-5 units, I leave and take a break. I also will leave the table if it has been going back and fourth for 3-4 hours and I have even money or 1-2 units up.

I have received 3 days comps to MB with food credit and/or tickets to guess singers. I have used several of them. Aria has comped me 2 nights. I was sent free flight + hotel to Beau Rivage (I think a lot of people get this offer). This is all from the marketing, no host. I do not pay for rooms when I visit Vegas now. Offers are sent all the time.

Thank you for your help so far guys.

Having no hotel cost appeals to me massively (obviously!). My girlfriend works for United so we get free flights as well from the UK which is great.

I assume being from the UK. Doesn't affect comps offered in any way?!

Good attitude (I think). We went through the same thing (not at 2000 $) and figured when we were comped rooms, we just added that amount to our daily budget and then with food comped (eventually) added that as well. Just stay within your budget and take what they give you. That IS comps. I play for this much, what do I get. Not, I want that! What do I need to do?

    Have fun and good luck!

    Lets do the math.

you have a gigantic store that you owe billions of dollars in mortgage paymanets on not to mention all the other costs for labor, lighting, insurance, goods, the whole nine yards in on your shoulders.

Someone comes to your store to buy something and spends 2k. Some come in and spend 100k, some come in and spend $5, some come in and take 100k from you.

How much free stuff would you give the 2k customer?

I assume comps still work the same for UK based residents? Just tried to register for the Cosmo players card but don't have a zip code so It wouldn't let me?

I don't know, hence the question!

Some good thought provoking questions. Sadly, too many people think they should give the $5 customer a free room and meal. Obviously those people have never run a business.

To go along with this, they have another factor. Unlike a business where people spend something and get some sort of item to take home, the hope in a casino is you spend something, and get nothing back. And that is where it is difficult to figure out the EXACT carrot to keep us coming back. And, that magic numbers moves around depending on who is trying to figure it out.

They would give the 2k customer a few teaser comps/discounts hoping for a larger return later, especially if the 2k customer comes to the store often and starts spending more each time they show up. (looking for the compulsive gambler)

The 100k customer they would treat like gold.

    Hows that?

I'll take a shot at this. Let me caveat up front that by saying that a lot of what everyone has already said here is correct: it depends.

So let's break it down into where you should play if you want to generate free room comps, given how you're going to play.

If you're going to play slots, the conventional wisdom is that CET properties are going to be your best bet for free rooms, especially at their lower end properties.

If you're going to play table games on your bankroll, you're going to have your best results at the lower level MGM properties. However if you're not going to bet at least green chip, or more likely higher, trying to get rooms by playing table games is probably not a great strategy. You might see email offers, you might not. But in my experience, people tend to get their best value in offers early from MGM -- so if you've never had an offer, any level of play might generate one at the lower end properties. But there have been so many changes in MGM's comp policy lately, I don't think anyone can say for sure.

If your plan is to generate comps, there are some things you don't want to do. You don't want to play a bunch of slots because you're winning (thus declaring yourself to the casino as a 'slot player') and then play $5 blackjack for four hours. You can play the blackjack, just play it without your card or at a different hotel chain. Because if you do, you might make it look like you're a $5 player who happened to play a lot of slots because you were winning (it might not be that sophisticated, but why chance it?)

That doesn't apply in the other direction. I'm a table player, and if I screw around and throw $200 through slots but nothing else, it has no effect on my status.

I play at just above your level, Ill take 2500 to 3000 for a 3 day weekend. I play Mostly Blackjack starting at the 5 dollar level at IP, well I guess its the Quad now, Once up a couple hundred I will start betting in the 15-25 dollar range sometimes much more depending on how far ahead I am & how much alchohol I have consumed. I get comp offers for all the lower tier during the week & weekends, for the mid tiers i get week comps but rarely a weekend. And occasionaly I will see an offer for a night or two comped at Ceasars. This is all at CET properties, I just tried the same at MGM properties & all I get offered is discounted rooms at Luxor.

Let's be real here for a second, brah! You burned our fucking capital to the ground in 1812. You just dont forget that shit. So, your comps may lack a bit for that indiscretion. Yeah, sure, we spilled a little of your tea in Boston Harbor back in the 1770's (what sort of heterosexual drinks tea anyway? And whats a fucking crumpet? But I digress) but we didnt set London a fire. So, dont be looking for a wraparound without a "wraparound". Know what I am sayin??

    Fun

    Great question.

    1. Generally Slot Players are offered some of the most liberal comps, from the casinos.
As the Casino's Advantage can be anywhere from a 1%-20% in Nevada.
Compare that the Perfect Play, single/double deck 3:2 BJ,
or Craps w/Odds w/an average 1% or less, House Advantage on those games.

    2. Many casinos offer Comped rooms Midweek, to Discounted weekends just for being on their Radar.
So as you explore & like others have said get a Players card, & get on their radar by giving them a little action.

    3. Off strip properties would appreciate your play most likely more, than the Mega's on the strip.
Say you coin in $8k at Southpoint, "M Resort" or a Station Casino or Boyd Property -vs- $8k at Bellagio or Caesars Palace.

Currently four huge Multinationals MGM & CET, Wynn & LV.Sands, in total control almost 80% of the strip.
They are the big boys that are playing Monopoly w/Skyscrapers on Las Vegas Blvd.
Knowing that, you have to ask yourself, are they in cahoots? well they certanly aren't trying to
outdoo one another for players affection in comps on the strip right now...
    Well leave it at that.
Thanks BeeJay  for your many thought-provoking posts on the subject.

    4. A 2k$ bankroll played correctly, can generate decent coin in on higher pay
Video Poker or Low Deviation BJ or Craps. The longer you play on the same $$, the more you Coin in= Higher comps.
It's not about how much you won or lost, it's all about average bet, the game your playing & Length of Play, for Comp Ratings.
(lot's of great posts on comp ratings) use the boards Search function.
Auggie always has some great posts on Theo's. & Player ratings

    5. Remember your playing for Enjoyment & Thrill, & your Idea is not to Loose
$2000, to get a Comped room you can pay $39 a night for on Priceline.
To win $$$ & have fun a great goal, Comps are the Gravy for most players.
If you would like to share your Trip Reports, ups & downs are fun,
Currently the TR Master is Natedog666 very exciting reads in the Las Vegas Adventures of a Real Whale.

    6. The Recent downturn in Las Vegas, Overall the casinos are giving out less Comps then during boomtime.
I know it's Counterintuitive, as a normal person would think when business is down,
they would try harder for your Gaming dollars and be more hospitable (more comps) to Players on Average,
    Generally that's not the case.

    The Ugly:Greed
But many Las Vegas Casino owners got Greedy & instead Doubled Down on Boomtown & didn't set anything back for hard times.
Prime examples, City Center, Echelon, Fontainebleau, & a few other Boondoggles that will remain nameless,
on top of many Casino operators going Bankrupt or Asking the Courts for Bankruptcy protection from their Creditors.

    Enjoy

    Our experience

Like most everyone else has said I can't say exactly what your comps will be like but what I can do is share my experience. I have the exact same bankroll as you, split evenly down the middle between my wife and I. We both have separate players accounts but the accounts are linked.

We visited Vegas twice in 2011 and once in 2012 with that bankroll. We are mainly slot players with very little table play. We play exclusively at MGM properties and make absolute sure to use our players cards every time.

Since that first trip in 2011 we haven't paid for a room since and the offers are getting better. For our second trip in 2011 we just received the comped room. For our trip in 2012 we received the comped room and $100 in Freeplay.

We've just booked a trip for later in the spring of this year and I must say I am surprised by the offer. We're getting the room comped for 3 days, $200 in Freeplay and $400 in resort credit. In all honesty, that offer does not seem in line with our play but perhaps skipping the second trip in 2012 worked to our favor. Perhaps they think we went to a competitor property? In any case we're not complaining and took advantage of it immediately!

That's our experience. Your mileage may differ!

I just had 4 nights in a Mirage suite, Limo, 400$ FB as un upfront offer , ended up getting 800$ ish FB comped.
Then moved down the road to the Aria and got all my FB comped there too, sadly we paid for the room with our flights so couldn't get that free.

I think UK players with MGM seem to get hotel specific offers rather than any across property offer.

I only played at the Cosmo on my latest trip so do not know what their offers for UK players will be like, but i'm waiting to find out ;)
