As I seem to do every other trip or so, I’m contemplating a Cosmo stay. And while I’m reasonably confident that they have worked out enough of the bugs and service related issues that have always kept me from pulling the trigger in the past, I’m a bit worried that I will not be able to find any games that I find “playable”. I know they have downgraded the blackjack rules (no more DD S17 games) and the (at one time, excellent for the strip) video poker pay tables.

I’m hoping someone who has some fairly recent experience might be able to put my mind at ease…or break it to me that I’m not going to find what I’m looking for.

As far as video poker goes, I’d like to stay at the $1 level and I’m willing to play a triple or five play game. I can go to $2 if the pay tables improve significantly, but $5 is too rich for my blood other than in short doses. My favorite games are DDBP and DW. But, I’m willing to try something else if the pay tables are much better. (I also love Super Times Pay games…so any info on whether I can find those would be very much appreciated as well.) So, can anyone tell me what to expect at the $1(ish) level? Oh, and please don’t tell me to consult vpfree2. I’m aware of it. I’ve looked at it. And I also know it is far from complete and at times, even inaccurate.

For blackjack, I’d like to find a shoe game that stands on soft 17, allows double after split, re-splitting aces and late surrender for $100 minimums. According to the November issue of CBJN (the most recent that I have), there are 10 such tables. However, I’ve never been able to find nearly that many. And they are often at $300-500. Other than the “old” high limit area off of the main casino and the new high limit room upstairs (Talon Club?), is there anywhere else I should be looking for good games? Or is that it?

Any information you can give is greatly appreciated! :nworthy:

Not counting the high-limit area, they not only do not have Double-Deck games with S17, ALL of their main floor Double-Deck games are 6:5. Cheap bastards!

To get 3:2 on DD you'll have to bet $100 in high-limit or play the $25 8-deck games, (also H17).

I don't have data on the exact rules in high-limit, however. To find the LS, RSA 8-deck games, (at least on the main floors) you're better off in MGM properties.

LOL…funny you should mention that. I was just looking at my old copy of CBJN and noticed this. I was thinking to myself, “that can’t be right”. Yikes!

And yeah, you’re right. I know I’m better off at an MGM property. And even if I do stay at Cosmo, I’m sure most of my BJ will be played next door at Bellagio. But it would be nice to not have to do all my gambling elsewhere.

I know you asked specifically about $1 VP, but the Cosmo Bond and Book & Stage bars (and the other bar between them that I don't think has a name) have 8/5 DDB VP at the $0.25 level which is pretty decent for mid-strip especially given the top shelf drinks that Cosmo offers.

Never miss a chance to go to Cosmo and play VP while watching the beautiful people walk by...

I hear ya, Chris - I've always been impressed with how generous they are with the top shelf booze for quarter VP. Good to hear they haven't downgraded those games too much.

Cosmo bartops had 9/5 JOB at $1 (8/5 for quarters) last time I was there, but it was about a year ago.

    Cosmo bar tops

Can't wait to try them out. For the strip and that area of the strip wow 9/6 is pretty cool. Add in a few free top shelf drinks sounds like a fun night. I will try to make it my first stop on my trip. I have read a lot about Bond and will try to bar tops there.

    How recently was that?

    http://www.vpfree2.com/casino/cosmopolitan-las-vegas

If you look at the comments, it looks like they pulled a bunch of the .25/$1 machines about a year ago. I'm assuming this is one of the reasons their VPFree ranking has dropped so much? http://www.vpfree2.com/casinos/rankings/details/cosmopolitan-las-vegas

I LOVED those Super Times Pay .25 machines, and Cosmo was very good to me on my last few trips.

I played VP at the Bond and Queue bars in December 2012 and they were both 8/5 at the quarter level. Can't speak for the VP machines on the floor (didn't play them).
