Evander Kane at the Cosmo. Took a little heat from the NHL for this twitter picture while they are trying to [strike]negotiate[/strike] show the fans of the hardships the NHL is enduring during this lockout.

If I'm not mistaken, those are $50K bricks in his hands.

As a Vegas fan, I love pictures like that. As a hockey fan, I am just sad about there being no season and Evander being in Vegas instead of a rink. :(

up here north of the border, where sports journalism doesn't exist unless they're talking about hockey, they've actually been having panel discussions on various sports shows about this picture.
its been going on for days.

From a business standpoint, the lockout is completely the league's fault, not the players.

In any business, you have to deal with marketing your product and selling it. In the NHL, the product is entertaining hockey.

If the league is to be profitable, it will be based on producing a product that people want to pay for, and generating revenues that exceed their costs. If the players are insisting on more money or better contracts, the league has two options. Either give in to their demands or find new players.

If the NHL is incapable of being profitable with their current structure, then they need to restructure their league in such a way as to either increase the demand for the product, which will bring in more money, or increase the supply of their labor (players), which will decrease the cost of payroll.

If neither option is viable, then the league has no choice but to fold.

For this strike/lockout the players haven't been taking a stance on things like financial hardship or anything like that, actually more along the lines of the opposite: that they are "the product" and that they make NHL owners a lot of money and they want their fair share (with the definition of fair being that they want more than half of everything).

The end result of this job action is going to be great for guys like Evander Kane and other NHL stars that have long 15-20 years careers in the NHL, but for the majority of the players, the average NHL player, they only get to play 2.5-3 years in the NHL (and thats more like 30-40 games a year, not a full season's worth of games each year) and they are the ones that'll really be paying for this job action: for a guy like Evander Kane this job action will cost him 4-6% of his lifetime earning potential in the NHL, so its imperative for him to get the best deal possible... for the average-Joe NHLer this job action will cost him 30-40% of his lifetime earning potential int he NHL, so imperative to them to get back on the ice as soon as possible.

Gary Bettman and Donald Fehr are to blame. These guys knew of a lockout coming but refused to even start discussing until after the expiration of the CBA. They are two high profile names that want to come out winners in their eyes and both are grandstanding and neither have the true interests of the LEAGUE (not the owners or players who change over time) at hand. The owners are the ones to establish the revenue share setup. They have the know the revenue, they know how much it is to run their clubs, they know how much they can afford for player talent and still make a profit. We do want the owners to not get raped here, we want them to make a profit, we want clubs to look attractive, go up in value, be wanted as an investment. It's the only way to make the league sound. And I'm sure there will be plenty to make hockey players playing a game happy. And it will always beat playing in Russia or Sweden. The league should rid themselves of Bettman for ever, and the players should can Fehr. This season is done, toast, gone forever. There is no way any 20-40 game season could be taken seriously. And as an Islander fan, this was 1 of only 3 season left that I could catch a game on LI, and now that's gone. On top of that the first lockout that resulted in a shortened season resulted in a [strike]Oilers[/strike]Ranger stanley cup, and I still say it was illegitimate. Third lockout under Bettman, how does that guys have a job?

Pathetically, I can vouch for this. He even had to give an apology to a Winnipeg newspaper. How DARE he have fun during this ongoing national crisis!

Donald Fehr was a horrible pick for the NHL players union. He is one of the main culprits for the orgy of steroids and PEDs in Major League Baseball.

Evander is at the rink, he spares for his friend's team at my local rink. I have pics of him playing and a pic of us together

Wow, that's awesome. But also unfair to the other teams in a mens league to have to play against him.
