Wow, dropping like flys! But is anybody who has been into the Plaza lately, really surprised?
New furniture does not a casino make!

I have many fond, fun memories of playing and staying at the Plaza. Bring back decent BJ rules, and I will also be back.

They cut their prices, yet they maintain a resort fee...they open and close clubs and eateries, but they fail do understand that their problem is that the casino is empty. Their casino is empty because they offer inferior games to the places right next door and down the street. They deserve to go out business, and they will, just a matter of time. The only hope is if they change their policies, there is no evidence whatsoever that they even understand what the problem is.

Maybe there was a lack of commitment and direction from mgt. The D seems to be doing well so far, from what I've been hearing since I have'nt been to the D yet. BUT... that will change as I leave in a few hrs. to Vegas. (See my countdown? Wooo hooo!!:woohoo:)

Anyway, in my opinion if the Plaza returned to favorable table game rules, along with the low minimums and competitive slot incentives they could've fared better. It's o.k. to try to capture a portion of the Strip demographic but I think you cannot change what Downtown is... which is a place where low minimums, good odds, gambling oriented people congregate. Maybe they just need to lower their profit margins and go the high volume low margin route. It works for Costco and Walmart but hey, I'm no business expert.

When the D came out with Retro-Vegas on the 2nd floor and a hip, modern vibe on the ground floor I thought that was very innovative and original.

I have watched that space open and close so many times I cannot even count them. When Jackie owned the place, and they had the Omaha Lounge, with the Sun Spots. They brought in people. Some of those people would gamble, some wouldnt, but they brought a fun vibe with them. Then the new owners started enforcing the no dancing policy, no sitting policy, etc. Then they moved it, and started putting up walls so that you had to go inside to watch them. It has been downhill ever since.

I would love to see them rip out those walls, and do another Omaha lounge, with a cheesy band. The fun atmosphere would resonate through the casino, and people would tend to hang out longer.

Make sure you bring your earplugs when you visit the D at night, lol. When you visit you will understand what I mean. Not sure how loud it is on weeknights but the music is loud on friday and saturday nights.

Not sure how great the 2nd floor of the D is, I visited the place last month, the sigma derby machine was busy, they built an escalator outside the D to get to the 2nd floor but after a walk through I just walked back out again. IMHO, nothing really special but I am hardly impressed with makeovers.

The problem with the plaza is that they tried to "upscale" the place, upgraded the rooms and casino and because they now considered themselves a "resort" like the hotels on the strip they felt they could also add resort fees and bad pay tables.

Unfortunately, just painting the place and making it nice doesn't constitute a "resort", they forgot who frequented their casino, the lower end players who looked for bargains and good action at the tables in addition to the people who took the buses and played at the plaza waiting for the buses back to their towns. They chased away those players with their "upscaling" :Þ and they still can't compete with the GN as a four star hotel because nobody considers them a four star hotel.

I agree. A fun atmosphere is definitely one of the major ingredients in a successful casino.

Yes. Plaza's mgt. failed to capitalize on their true identity.

Oh, and I've heard of the D's loud music. Thanks for reminding me about the earplugs. I added them to my suitcase...lol!:poke::beer:

I agree that it would be great if they had a lounge area with an open to the casino concept that people could enjoy while gambling rather than try to make them sit in a closed in lounge to get people to pay for drinks.

I cannot comment too much on table rules as I don`t play tables much but the casino badly needs a vibe.

actually the noise depends on you, us older guys don't like the loud music atmosphere (where you can't hear people speaking) so the music can get irritating at the D. For a short time the noise may not be that bad but if you are there for hours the noise may get to you.

They redid everything except the management team that ran the hotel into the ground in the first place (not to mention the Las Vegas Club and the Western). They can recognize a good deal on furniture but can't figure out how to run a casino.

Dangit. I was looking forward to having a cheap drink with the scantily clad bartenders.

It appears that EXPOSED might be ditching it's sexy-girls theme for a more traditional salon. They've added manicures, pedicures, full-body waxing and bridal make-up to their services, and I doubt that most of those are intended for men.
