There doesn't seem to be a lot of discussion about Mandalay Bay these days. I've just received an offer from them to stay there at a rather reasonable price with a complimentary suite upgrade.

Can anyone here comment on recent experiences staying there? I'm quite familiar with the hotel itself, but wonder what the rooms are like and what my "complimentary suite" might be like.

    Thanks!

The standard rooms at Mandalay Bay are above average. The room is very spacious with nice sized flat screen tv. the bathroom is also very large with a his and her sink and a soaking tub.

I once there a a slow weekend on a comped regular room for two nights a while back and they upgraded me to a 2 bedroom suite. I was shocked.

I hope you get the same if you end up staying there

I've stayed at MB the last 4 or 5 trips. I've never stayed in a regular room there yet, though, all but one trip I was at TheHotel. The one time I stayed at MB proper, I got lucky and got assigned a Sky View suite.

I imagine the complimentary upgrade is to a Spa Suite or maybe a Great Room Suite - there's decent pictures and floor plans of both on their web site. The Spa Suite is 610 sf and the Great Room Suite is 765 sf, so they're both good sized rooms, and both have a spa tub.

I'm not a casino hopper, so I like MB; you really never have to leave the building if you don't want to. They have a couple of (relatively) inexpensive restaurants you can grab takeout from and if you want to get even cheaper, you can walk through a connector on the upstairs shops level to the smallish food court at Luxor.

I've always had a good experience with MB rooms. The suites I've gotten for comp upgrades are great, but the basic rooms are very nice as well. No matter what level of room I've had, they've always had a nice big bathroom and a comfy bed.

My last trip in the MB tower was last August. Got an offer for comp room with free upgrade to a suite. No suites were available when I got there, but got a basic room with a great strip view so I was happy. My only complaint was that they were working on the elevators on that trip and they were running very slow.

    Chuck and BK:

Thanks for the replies. I was concerned that since MB is getting a little old, the condition of the rooms might be deteriorating a bit. It sounds like you didn't find any problems with the room conditions?

I'm also guessing the "upgrade" is to a spa "suite." If the room is in nice shape, and the bed is comfortable, I'm sure that will be fine for us.

I love it there! I haven't stayed since April, but every trip I've taken since then I've been there. I like their restaurant selection, I like the casino. It's always "lively"

The rooms were a little worn around the edges, but so are most of the 4 start hotels at this point.

Also like others have said, I've stayed far more times in THEhotel because I could always score a good deal.

I would say, they are in the beginning stages of construction. Some of the restaurants are closing, a nightclub is being rebuilt and THEhotel is changing.. I would decide if that is going to bother you.

    Heather:

I have indeed been booked into a Spa Suite. Looks nice based on the pictures on their web site. Hopefully the room we get will be in nice condition.

I wasn't aware that there was construction going on there. Perhaps that's why I received an offer for a discounted room!

Has THEHotel construction started? I was there 2 weeks ago and didn't notice any. Then again I was in MB tower and never went farther than the HL room to play Baccarat.

I had a Great Room on the 23rd (I think) floor facing north. My wife loved the tub and the quote "sex positive furniture". LOL!

I had a Great Room Suite several months ago, and frankly wasn't too impressed with the room. The Suite showed it's age. Dirty carpets, and the bed comforter was stained. I also felt claustrophobic from the room layout the way the bed, dining table, and furniture were placed.

It was my first stay at MB, and don't get me wrong I like the property. Fun, young crowd, nice casino, private HL room, and decent restaurants. The beach is cool too.

I'm staying in a X-3 suite next time so I'll see what happens.

I haven't been in a couple years so I can't say if the deluxe rooms are still in shape. Seems like there's a lot of construction going on.

The condition of the rooms is fine there, but it's clearly not remodeled. A little bit dingy is all I would say about them, like could use new carpet and bedding. But I do feel in general that property is VERY well taken care of, despite it's age.

I was there a few weeks ago, not too much was going on yet, but I know that is coming. Honestly I'd still stay there even if there is construction.

China Grill and Red White and Blue and Red Square are changing after 11/18.. they are building a nightclub, and THEhotel is being remodeled.

    Hi Heather:

I don't think restaurant remodeling/reconstruction will bother us at all. I'd be more concerned if they were in the process of remodeling the rooms themselves.

It does seem like MB must be due for room remodeling soon. Others of the same age all seem to be doing it.

my girlfriend and I stayed in a suite last year at the Mandalay Bay and loved our room. Our room was located one floor below theHotel and was absolutely gorgeous plenty spacious and accommodating. I have stayed at the vdara and had a suite at the Luxor (which was quite nice despite the hotels rep) and our suite at the MB was by far the nicest. Have fun!!!

We have stayed at Mandalay Bay once and TheHotel once. We are going to Vegas next week on Thursday and we will once again stay at TheHotel.

The Mandalay Bay is really nice. We stayed there last year at the end of September into October. Very clean, spacious and nothing wrong with the room. The restroom like others said is large and has a nice soaking tub. Our view was to the west and on the 15th floor. There was a thunderstorm in the evening, we had the perfect view to watch it going on:)

TheHotel was our favorite. We stayed in TheSuite. Very clean, very spacious. The room is a REAL suite, with seperate living room and bedroom, two lcd flat panel tv's, 2 restrooms. Yes 2, one restroom in each room, that was our favorite thing. We were on the 20th floor on the southwest corner, so we had a little strip view and a view of the airport. Everything in the room was pretty nice, nice robes, slippers etc... Believe it or not, the amenities were nicer than the ones in the Wynn.

The Hotel is a non smoking hotel I think and was very peaceful and quite. We always eat at the Mix when in Vegas, so that worked out perfect since it's located on top of TheHotel.

As far as the Red White & Blue resteraunt in Madalay Bay, we had a great experience there over a year ago. Now from looking at the reviews, it has gone to shit! Very dissapointing. Guess it doesn't matter anyways, since it will be gone soon.

Red white and blue has good ribs and $5 mojitos. Everything else I've had from there was sub-par and way over priced.

Can you clarify this one? We have booked a room at the MB but don't know much about the hotel and it's rooms (or furniture).

    Thanks

I had to clarification on that too, I was just quoting her semi-drunken text message.

Her explanation was that the "furniture could be used in cirque-style sexual activities. So with a creative mind it could be put to good use."

So there you have it. You can see pics of the room on the Mandalay bay website.

okay understood. Just making sure it wasn't anything but a creative mind or unlike any other vegas room...
