My host is a huge sports fan. I wanted to bring him some apparel of his favorite team next time I come into town. Could he accept this gift? Is this practice ok?

Yes he can accept that as a gift. As a general rule, cash is not appropriate but gift cards seem to be OK.

he can accept anything if you mail it to his house. that's what i always do. if you bring it into the casino and give it to him in front of all the cameras, you have to be more discrete just to make sure you don't cause him trouble.

A couple times a year, I sent my previous (now retired) host a nice Thank You card w/gift card inside. I mailed it to the property, but to his attention. He never indicated that I shouldn't do that, so I assumed it was OK as he always thanked me.

I've given both gift cards and actual gifts to my host. She never said anything about it...even once I gave her a wrapped gift just outside the host office..no issues. She stated that MonteCarlo management are really good about these things...she also takes me to dinner one night every time I'm in town.

depends on the level of your play and the value of your host. i usually go for a gift around $100-200, but if you're betting $25/hand, that doesn't make much sense.

    200-400/hand.. $100 sounds right.

I asked my host after last trip where to mail something, thinking that just like shifter said, it might be better to send it to his house. He gave me the hotel's address.

that's definitely the best way to go about it. it puts it in the hands of the host. i've asked that same question to 2 hosts and they've both given me their home address. just depends on the host.

Might also depend on your play, I don't know Mikes level but judging by what you write here about your play. I'd let you mail me gifts lol

I was thinking the same thing. My level is nowhere near Shifter's. Although I did send a nice gift.

i don't really spend that much on gifts, but i do make sure to get something that will mean something to them. showing you pay attention to what they like means a lot more to people than how much you spend.

    Never a Thank You

I have given my host at Bellagio gifts for 4 years...at least 5 times per year. The gifts have ranged from candy to sports clothing to wine to gift cards. I'm not saying they were ever higher than $50 in value each time, but I have never received a Thank You in 4 years. I have never been given more than just free rooms...never a gift basket to my room, or any free play...beyond what my corporate offer would be. I gave the gifts as a thank you for free nights when I needed them. I am Noir, but I know I am not a big player.....but a Thank You from a host would have been nice....just once in 4 years. Am I asking too much? I never under play for my free rooms...in fact....I feel I have been cheated out of primary comps...since I have never been given anything in 4 years. I usually earn around $450 in express comps per 3 night stay...10 times a year....Am I too sensitive to being ignored?

Why would you continue giving a gift to a host that doesn't even say thank you?

Bellagio doesn't usually give free play. It's harder to get stuff there unless your an ultra whale. I would think you could at least get a suite sometime given the level of play you described.

your host sounds like a real DB. not only is he not doing you any favors on the comp front, not sending a thank you card or at least giving you some sort of verbal thank you is terribly rude. i'm surprised you stuck with him for 4 years. hosts are like grains of sand on the beach. if you don't like one, find another!

what is this host's name so everyone can know to avoid him like the plague?

Exactly right. That's not just rude for a host, it's rude for a human being.

You know I've recently had a really really bad experience with a host who actually lied to me, and essentially told me he didn't want me coming back to a certain MLife property.

But I'm hesitant to use specific names on public forums because couldn't that be possible grounds for slander?
