I know it's a little early and all but I'm trying to plan a Vegas getaway after Christmas. I was thinking of leaving the day after Christmas and then staying till New Years day. This will all depend on flight prices and if they are extremely high to fly back New Years Day etc. (I'm cheap) But I have been looking at my calender and basically it looks like I have to pay for pretty much every hotel during this period but would get comped from Wed/Thur/Fri for most of them and have to pay Sat/Sun/Monday. Most of the rates are somewhat similar only varying a little. I stayed at PH the past 2 stays and figured we would try something different this time. My girlfriend wants to go with Ballys because it is the only CET property we didn't actually even go in on our previous visits. Which hotel would you stay in if the prices were similar for New Years Eve? The only one out of the question is Caesars because the prices there are pretty outrageous on my calender.

I am pretty excited to go for New Years Eve... I'm sure it will be crazy just want to make sure I pick the right property! I'm trying to decide if 6 nights is too much even though it's comped the first few. I stayed 6 nights last time and after a bad lossing spree it was almost too much. But I can just focus on other things for some of the time.

I'm also hoping not to get a South Tower room since that's what I will be booking. I am a Diamond CET hopefully that and the $20 trick will work to get me a better room... not sure on NYE though.

Room choice between the two would be tough because I can see some advantages for NYE with both properties.

Because I have done NYE in Vegas already I would probably go with Planet Hollywood so that I am further away from all the "action", but if I hadn't done NYE in Las Vegas I would probably go with Bally's to be closer to it :)

Early? If you are thinking about New Years Eve in Las Vegas "early" is June, July and first half of August. You are in the middle part now where its not too late yet but you are probably going to be seeing inflated airfare prices already that won't get any cheaper and hotel rooms are starting to get booked up.

Of your choices, not much difference. Try to get as many of the "expensive" nights comped if possible.

Think about coming back a different day - maybe. Usually, the day after, the airport is a zoo. And expensive. And, if you partied late, you will not be in a mood to travel.

I may have to take that into account I figured that airport would be insane the next day.

As far as the expensive days it stilll isn't that bad I think the 6 nights would be around $350.00 I think that Saturday was like 89.00, Sunday, 119.00, and then Monday(NYE) was like $139.00 for Ballys all others were free.

I did NYE last year and moved our stay around the price of flights and hotel. The days leading up to NYE were expensive as well. The best plan we found was flying from DEN the morning of December 31st, and flying out January 3rd.

By pushing back our trip 2 or 3 days, we cut the cost of the trip in half. Checkout and airport was no busier than normal those days as well.

I haven't done it, but remember it's a literal ZOO. I can't imagine it would be that fun.. not to mention if you go like 2 days earlier or 2 days later you trip will cost a 1/3 as much.

I'd make sure you are somewhere you wanna hang out.. or find a party you want to go to (Which are also expensive). Because I'm guessing moving around will be difficult. I personally wouldn't want to be stuck at Bally's.

NYE night alone is $369 to stay at PH, $255 to stay at Flamingo.. and a good chunk of places are sold out already.

I've done NYE twice in Vegas - 2010 and 2011 skipped this past one.

Things really pick up on the 29th, then insane thru the 1st. Crowd starts to thin out after. Casinos are very crowded, table limits are higher every day, 24/7, until the crowds start to leave. Definitely get reservations a month or two beforehand for any place that takes them. Shows all have special holiday pricing (tack on an extra $20 to $80).

I've stayed at Bally's 3 or 4 times the last two years, and I'd say they generally attract a mid-30's+ crowd. Compared to PlanetHo which definitely attracts more 20-somethings. In 2011 we stayed in Paris - not quite as hectic as Caesars in 2010.

    Other thoughts:
    • - In 2011, they started restricting access to PlanetHo around 7pm. We had reservations at Koi so they let us in.
    • - They start shutting down the Strip around 9pm. All crossroads start shutting down around 8pm. DO NOT plan on something like dinner at Encore then a show at MGM right after, on NYE -- unless you don't mind walking thru huge crowds.

I am in my mid 20's but hopefully Bally's will be good for me. I have been to Vegas two times now and stayed at Planet Hollywood both times so figured I would try something new. I would do PH again because I really liked it but the 30th and 31st(NYE) are really overpriced as far as rates go for me. Bally's seemed to be pretty decent just wanted to make sure I had a good time.

I go to LV this time every year, fly out Christmas night and return on NYE morning, I used to stay for NYE but was burnt out on the crowds. Flying home on NYE is so easy, airport is empty.

I always stay at the CET props and I, like you, am comped the first few nights they have to pay closer to NYE. Here's what I do, and what I've been doing this year as well:

I book the res I want, since the first nights are comped, there's no deposit required on the reservation. After the res is booked, I check the CET website EVERY DAY (I use their destination calendar under the reservation tab so I can still see rates even tho I already have a res). So far, the prices for the 30th has dropped twice, once by $25 and once by $20. When I see the rate is lower, I call CET reservations and they happily update my res to the lower price.

Every single year, the prices have dropped the closer it came to trip time. Last year, I decided on a whim not to come home as planned and stayed a day longer. By that time, the cost was only $25 for Bally's and they ended up not even charging that on my bill.

I'm diamond at CET as well and my reservation usually begins at $200 or so for Dec 30th and is usually only $20-$40 by the time late December rolls around. This wouldn't be the case if their occupancy is higher than they expected, but the lower rates have materialized each of the last 5+ years I've stayed with them.

So, my recommendation is to choose your prop SOON, book that reservation, then watch the rates like a hawk!
    Enjoy your trip!

I use your technique on checking the reservations and looking for the lower price as well. I check every couple days to see if it has gotten lower. It has already changed like 3 times for the better so I cancel my reservation and then rebook online. I hope this doesn't have any negative impact on me? I have like 3/4 cancellations in my list from where I rebooked! I like your technique though my girlfriend thinks I'm cheap but I'm just saavy and anything I can save is extra money for gambling.

Kind of makes me wonder why you'd post in the thread?

I'm 24 and have been for NYE the last 2 years now and to Vegas 7 times or so the last few years during the summer/fall, and there's not another place to be that could possibly match the electricity and excitement that is in the air. The casinos are crowded but not to the point of being uncomfortable, and buffet lines are just a tad longer than normal. I spent last years with the Fiance at Cosmopolitan for the Stevie Wonder concert and had the time of my life (stayed at the HGVC at Flamingo), and the year before spent it trying to make my way from the HGVC by Circus Circus to Mandalay Bay, but unfortunately got too drunk and had to stop by the time we hit NYNY. Saw 0 fights, 0 arrests, and a lot of happy people. You wont regret a NYE on the Strip anywhere you stay.

    Need to know tips:
    - Restaurants DO NOT do reservations on NYE or NYD

    - The Strip shuts down to traffic at 4 pm NYE, so be back to your hotel if you leave in your car much sooner

    - You will be hard pressed to find parking at any hotel you're not a guest at as most places are sold out and lots are at capacity

    - DO NOT buy tickets to ANY show or concert for the night of in advance, peoples plans change and come the 31st you will score 1/2 price tickets or more to every show on Craigslist/eBay. Stevie Wonder tickets last year were $300 each after tax/fees, I managed to get 2 tickets for $260 total on NYE.
Same story the year before for every big show and club.

    - The strip is a blast to be on all night if you decide not to go anywhere, you'll run into tons of happy drunks and people there to enjoy the night the same way as you.

    - Every hotel says Check-In is at 3-4pm, but the people working the desks don't want the huge lines either so you should be good to check in around NOON each day at the earliest and 1:30-2 at the latest.

Both of our trips for NYE were on weekends, so I'm sure the crowd will be down from the 360k people there last year but who knows, you'll have the time of your life no matter what.

I've been in Vegas for NYE every year for the last 6 years. I don't recommend going out onto the strip unless you are into not being able to move or getting smashed up against each other. PH would be a good location for NYE, just remember that the only way you are going to get into a hotel after a certain time is if you have a room key for that hotel.

Airfare is up now for NYE, I would recommend booking airfare ASAP, look at Frontier airlines they are running a 25% of special but Christmas and NYE maybe blacked out. If you want a cheap airline no frills try Spirit Airlines...never flew them and never will but they are cheap if you don't check bags or need the frills.

We're travelling from the UK this year for NYE. Booked through Travelocity UK site. Have a close look at the "Mystery Hotels". One of them offers Hollywood Hip rooms..... :ssst: Much cheaper!

We are arriving Xmas eve this year and will be spending NYE in Vegas for the 3rd year running, its gonna be a sad day when we eventually have to spend Hogmany (Scottish term) back home again, Vegas at New Year is an absolute blast! Yeah its crowded, loud, full of happy drunks and people partying but if you dont enjoy that kinda thing well I dont think you would enjoy Vegas anytime! We are staying at Mandalay Bay this year tho, have stayed at PH and Tropicana the previous 2 years, PH is a great location for New Year, but we were pretty inexperienced Vegas travellers then so really only went outside, viewed the fireworks and went back inside drinking, last year we did NFI at NYNY and it was awesome! This year we are hoping Mandalay Bay have something planned, enjoy as Im 100% sure you will

I wanted to do it before I get to old and start to hate the crowds, lol. So I think this will be the year to do it. As with flights don't they normally start going down usually 6-8 weeks before? That has been how it normally works previously. I haven't booked a flight yet because they are all still expensive from what I'm used to paying to go to Vegas. I guess I can book and rebook if it gets cheaper. Just over 1k for 2 tickets right now is pretty outrageous.

Early July and New years eve are the best times to be in Vegas by far. I personally love being out on the strip all night on NYE but I can see how some wouldn't. There is a lot of crowd but it's a blast. Yes the casinos are a little more crowded but not too bad. The only problem with NYE in Vegas is that you have to make one plan and stick with it. Once you are on the strip....good luck getting out of those crowds. Once you are in the club good luck getting to the strip. This year I'm debating if I should do the club scene on NYE this year. My problem is that I'm gonna be upset if I hate it and then there is no way to really get on the deep part of the strip.
