Am sitting at work and started to think. What if all the casino's in Las Vegas did away with comps except free drinks. Would you still go to Vegas as much as you do? Would you play any differently than you play now? For me I don't think it would change anything since I don't get much more than free rooms. So what do you think, would you still be crazy about Vegas if they didn't give away the moon?

When I first started going to Vegas on a regular basis back in 2004 I had to pay for rooms. Haven't had to since then. If I had to, I am sure I would still go. And even if we had to pay for meals.

My first few trips to Vegas were when I was in my early 20s and broke; I'd pay for rooms and meals, and was often barely gambling at all ($5 blackjack, for the most part). Even until recently, I was playing $15 blackjack and maybe an occasional $5 craps table, because that was what I felt comfortable at with my bankroll, and that certainly wasn't earning me any comps. I gamble a lot more now, and get a lot more comped now, but I just love the city and love to play, so if comps went away I might cut my gambling back a little but still head back just as much.

I am a nano roller so I pay my own way anyway so it would actually be easier then fishing out my worthless card to play slots every time.

We haven't paid for a thing in over 20 years. If it all went away, then instead of 4-5 times per year, it "might" be once per year. Or, maybe none at all.

I could quit gambling, rather than go to an Indian casino. At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it.:wink2:

I would go back even with out free drinks. I would pay for them like I do at my local casino's. I go there for the atmosphere and gamimg. Treating me the same as the rest of the world treats me, wouldn't change a thing.

I'm kinda surprised that nothing would change for most of us so far. It seems like I'll come across threads every now and then were people are mad that they didn't get this or that comped, so there not going to give them any play. But when it gets right down to it were not spending are hard earned money gambling to get a free massage or steak dinner, we're gambling because we like to gamble and there's no better place than Vegas to do that.

I would go less often. The resort picking up my tab on the room and food is an enticement for me. When I am deciding between a vacay to somewhere with a free room and free food, and some place that does not, I am probably going with free

I think we would still go our 1 - 2 trips a year.. March Madness and Fall Football. We might not stay at Aria if we had to pay big bucks.. but would still go to Vegas. The gambling budget would remain the same.. we would just budget for Room, I don't think the food and freeplay are big enticements or deal breakers for us.. we just like to feel wanted so the Free Rooms in a nice hotel work for us.

we had this same thread not too long ago. i wouldn't go nearly as much. the whole draw of Vegas is that they pay for everything and i take the money i might have otherwise spent on another vacation and gamble with it. sometimes i lose it, sometimes i break even and other times i come home with more than i left with. that's the draw, that i can get a top notch vacation for free and possibly even come home with more money to boot and it's really a win win. but if i lose, i still had a great vacation. if i had to pay for everything on top of the money to gamble with, i'd rather go to Tahiti or on a cruise or whatever.

I'm not gonna say I would never go back, but almost without fail, each trip is reserved at the time I get a comp offer. Before I got the comps it was maybe twice every three years and low rolling at that.

    If comps went completely away?

I would go 1/3 as often and spend the same bankroll but with a third going to room rather than gambling

I am not a big gambler I think the comps are all part of the Vegas experience. Even my comps are quite limited, it is part of the draw.

I think it depends on how far you are out from Vegas. If no comps, I'd prolly not go a few times a year and take the $$$ on different cruises. I like the "possibility" of "winning" the cost of the trip. Otherwise, there are some really nice casinos that have popped up across the country that don't comp like Vegas- prolly visit more of those....

Instead of 3x a year I may only go once if at all. I have become very accustomed to free hotel rooms. I agree with Shifter, I feel much better about the gamling when I am not paying for rooms, which have become the consolation prize if you lose.

I might reword that to say: " I would not go as much if I could no longer pay $500 for my free rooms, or $40 for my free beer"

Never say never but...I do not think I would go to Vegas if I had to pay for rooms and there was no prospect of free meals etc. The airfare costs so much, the consolation is that the rest is relatively low cost.

I might only go once a year instead of my 3 times a year that I go now. I certainly wouldn't spend the amount of money I do now on gambling. This would be a loosing proposition for the Vegas casinos if they did this. The comps is how the Vegas casinos entice people to stay and play. I think most people are more willing to spend their money at the casino who treats them the best.
