Please help me so I don't sound stupid..

So, the sister and I are having a girls only weekend this January...

this is the first trip not having a rental car there, which means we'll be taking a cab from the the airport to the Paris...

We arrive just after 10am on a Thursday morning and I'd like to take the long drive downt the strip and avoid the airport tunnel..

Does that mean when we get into the cab I'll just ask say.."We're going to the Paris, and don't take the tunnel please" or what should I say so the cabbie thinks I might have a clue...

and a cab for the 2 of us with 1 piece of rolling luggage each would be like $20-25 plus tip or including tip? more?

I'd rather not take a bus or a shuttle..I've read some of the stories on here..

What about reserving a limo? Which one would you recommend? and about how much do you tip?

and last....our flight leaves Vegas at 7:15 (yeah, I know....what was I thinking...) but I shouldnt have a problem just walking out to the Paris taxi area and getting a taxi at 5:30am, right??

If you ever have a cab question at the airport, ask the guy who lines you up for cabs for help -- he's right there at the start of the cab line. But in your case, just tell them you want to drive up the strip. He'll probably complain or explain why you shouldn't, but it's your money.

$20 tops to Paris, unless it's rush hour.

Limo is about $60. Any company will do.

You will have zero problem getting a cab from Paris at 5:30.

If you pay for a limo, tipping $10-$15 is fine. Tip more if it's a comped limo.

 

All you have to do is say to the cabbie "The Paris Hotel" and firmly add "please do not take the tunnel". Definitely do not say "Paris" without making it clear that it is the hotel because I recall a post on here a few months ago from someone who just said "Paris" and the cabbie though he said "Payless" and drove through the tunnel to the Payless car rental place. If the driver does take the tunnel after you specifically tell him not to, then do not get confrontational - write down his license number and name from the front passenger side and make sure you note which cab service it is when you get out (the name will be written on the side of the cab) and license plate if you can. Then make sure you lower (or eliminate) his tip accordingly and call the Nevada Taxi and Limousine commission when you return home to file a report.

I hate starting off a trip with that sort of negativity, so I usually take a private car service (A1 Worldwide) from McCarron. A 20% gratuity is automatically added to the total so it comes to about $60 or so (you can always ask what the total including all fees will be). Since 20% gratuity is included, you do not have to give an additional tip, unless you feel like it.

Personally I find that it is so much better than a taxi and starts your trip off on a very relaxed note. You can easily just take a taxi back from Paris to McCarron but there is also tunneling in reverse so be aware - back in April a cabbie tried to take me on the highway from the Cosmopolitan to go back to McCarron when he should have just turned on Tropicana. I told him to get on Tropicana ASAP and reported him to the Nevada Taxi and Limousine Commission.

I would highly recommend a private car service over a cab any day of the week...

Just tell the cabbie "Paris Casino, no tunnel please" or Paris Casino, no tunnel please and then ask him to take Tropicana to the strip. See the map here

Then, as you leave the airport property, ask him to go down the strip please. As said, about $20.

I've had all sorts of responses - everything from a straight "okie dokie" to all sorts of negotiating/cajoling/etc to take the tunnel. One cabbie just took the tunnel anyway. He was none too pleased when I gave him $20 and took off when the meter said $30-something.

I'd take Harmon over Trop to Las Vegas Blvd (the Strip). One less block on LVB = quicker and cheaper ride.

I was listening to a las Vegas podcast a couple days ago,and one of the callers said he told the cab driver "paris,with a P".He said the cabbie appreciated it to avoid any confusion.
