lets says you are playing ddb quarts and you hit 4 A with a 4 , so you want to press you winnings and play dollars, do you play the same machine and go from 25 to 100 because you think its hot or do you switch machines. superstitious? LOL

 

If I'm winning, I'm a smart player and the machine doesn't matter.

If I'm losing, I'm superstitious.

I'd probably go to dollars for a while on that machine and if it was dumping, I'd change machines.

 

I play the same machine as long as it has the option to increase your bet. Also, please remember, it's unlucky to be superstitious.

 

If I can, I play the same machine... not because its "hot" or "lucky" or on a winning streak, but because then I don't have to get up and move to a new machine

 

I play dollars, so this doesn't apply unless I want to bump to $2, but I'd play the same machine because I will have established a relationship with my cocktail waitress, and I don't want her to lose me.

 

it's always good to get different opinions, hopefully i'll get the chance and i think i would move to a different machine, thinking i just hit a good payout and the chances of another 4oak or royal on the same machine is low, either way you still have to play smart

 

I went back to the same machines that i won on earlier.

 

The machine doesn't analyze its last few hands played and alter what cards are going to be dealt based on what hands did or did not come up recently.

Likewise it doesn't "owe" you anything... like if you sat there and played 40,000 hands of video poker its not going to look at it like "Oh, you are due to hit a royal flush! I better deal one out here for you..."

Plus weird stuff can happen, three I can think of:

I had a sequence about two weeks ago at my local casino where over a span of about ten hands I had three full houses, two four of a kinds, a three of a kind, a straight and two flushes.

Another one is: I hit a Royal Flush at Golden Nugget back in 2005. Despite playing lots of VP over the next few years my next Royal Flush didn't come until July 2010 at Harrah's... the next one after that came about 20 minutes later on the same machine. I also hit one at my local casino about a week after getting home from that trip.

On a spin poker machine my wife hit two royal flushes within 10 minutes of eachother (the first one paying her for three royals and the second time paying her for two because in spin poker you can technically hit one up to 9 times in a single play).


So anything can happen, and just because a machine had a recent hit doesn't mean it can't hit again...

 

No matter what you hit, why does that have ANYTHING to do with switching machines? Am I missing something here?

Yes, the machine he/she is sitting at just hit a RF, silly! Time to find a new machine that's "due".

It's probably what I would do, but that's because like most gamblers the "feel" of something is as important as the odds. If the odds from one machine to the next are the same, you go with your gut. (I'm equally impressed, though, by the answer to stay at the same machine because then you don't have to move your a**.)

I don't think the OP's question needs to be micro-analyzed.

 

I like the answer about losing increasing superstition. That being said we all gamble for fun so each should do whatever they feel like. Personally my brain tells me gambling in the long run is almost completely random and no amount of changing machines or tables will do squat; it's all about having enough bankroll to take the variance. I relearned that the hard way when I flushed 1500 at a $5 Vp machine in nyny the other week. For some reason I thought I was playing $5 a hand in my addled drunken brain =p

 

Do they pay tables get better on multi-denomination machines when you switch from 0.25 to $1? If they do, then I'd stick to that machine. If you can find a dedicated $1 machine that pays 9/6 instead of the 0.25 machine you were playing that pays 8/5 you should take the trouble to switch.

 

A lot of the time, the pay tables do get better as you increase your denomination on a multi-denomination machine. I'd say more times than not. Good luck finding 9/6 $1 on the strip, though. TI has it. NYNY has it but doesn't pay points on that machine.

 

what is spin poker? we've played a lot of quarter VP in Vegas and Laughlin and I don't think I've seen this

Thats the "Deluxe" version, which means 20 lines. Regular Spin Poker is 9 lines.

Most of the casinos, on The Strip and Downtown, have this game for as little as 1c or 2c per credit and there are a lot of different variations of it.

 

The random generator that controls video poker, is just that.....random. I do have a couple of stories to tell on this though.

I was playing $ DDB at Wynn and managed to hit quad aces with a kicker for $2000. This machine also has JOB/Bonus/DDB/Deuces and TDB poker. After I got my hand pay, I decided I would play another $100 in the same machine and see what happened. I played 20 hands of DDB and not even a pair....grrr....I then played another $100 in Triple Double Bonus and also hit quad aces with a kicker for $4000!!! $6K in jackpots on the same machine in less than 10 minutes. It was a very good trip.

About 5-6 years ago, DH and I were playing the right two $ DDB machines of a bank of 3 at Treasure Island. I was in the middle, with DH on the right and a mystery person on my left. I hit aces w/k for $2K, the guy on my left hits it and then DH hits it. All three machines were blinking with $2K jackpots. After the guy on the left gets his handpay, he hits it again on the very first push of the button! It was pretty funny as he was a local and said he was afraid they might not pay him because of all the jackpots he had hit there. But, they did, he took his money, played one more hand and then left.

So, you just never know what is going to happen!
