I live in Alaska and I am planning my first trip to Las Vegas. I have been working in the Aleutian Islands for the last 6 months 12+ hours a day 7 days a week no time off. Every expense covered and i have almost no bills back home. I got 2 more months to go.

I will be ready to have some serious fun.

    Data:

I will be meeting an old HS buddy of mine there.

I will have a nice bankroll.

I think I want something central on The Strip. But will probably take a cab or limo around. I wont feel like walking.

Even though I will have much cash I do not think I want to spend to much on the room. I am use to living in sparse conditions. I don't even have running water in my cabin at home. I would like to preserve the bank roll for party and whatnot.

    MGM seems kinda good.

I will be going the nights of Dec 20-22 or 23.

    I am 40 but I live like a 20 something.

    Single room 2 beds

I prefer Rock and metal. I can get down with House, dubstep, and Hip-hip.

I like Roulette, craps and light Slots.

    Questions:

Will it be super slow that time. Like boring slow? The rates seem so low.

How do I get the best rate? They seem to guarantee their rates. How does that work? Should I go ahead and just book and continue to search out lower rates.

Do you suggest another Hotel Casino?

It is possible that Dec. 21, 2012 will be a super blast in Vegas? I have not seem much todo about that date in Vegas. New Years happens every year. The end of the world only happens every decade or so.

I kinda want VIP Bottle service somewhere. But the overcrowded hip-hip clubs are not completely my style. I will do it and have fun but is there a place for more Rock and Rock Star service.

OK that is enough for now.

Thanks for any help guiding the rural Alaskan around.

December's as dead as they come, but that's the weekend before Christmas, so there might be a small uptick (not much) just because people have more than two days off.

what do you mean by a nice bankroll? if you're talking 5-figures you'd be best served contacting a host at the property you want to stay at and wiring the money ahead of time. you can most likely get a basic room comped up front and potentially get some of your F&B picked up as well.

Oh Cool, I was unaware of that. I may call up MGM and wire some money. Is it easy to withdraw it at the end of my stay?

As far as the clubs. I should be able to get a seat without a VIP Bottle service reservation during that week?

keep in mind that this is one of the vacation capitals of the world so dead to them is not dead to the rest of us.

i go at that time a lot and it might be a bit less crowded but thats a good thing.

The places are still going 24/7, you just might not see as many scantily clad young ladies. On the flip side the heat wont boil you to death either. Should be quite nice compared to where you are now.

As for bankroll, you cant have big enough for vegas. you can go small or big but there really is no end to how high the limits can be so keep that in mind.

you can have fun on a budget too, lots of fun no no sense in throwing it away.

MGM is a great place, not too expensive or over the top. Great place.

Other solid options would be Ballys, or Monte Carlo.

To get the best deals just look at the hotels websites starting at 3 months out. Thats when they start really booking them with actual deals.

About 1 month out they will be as cheap as they are going to be so just reserve them then.

You can check expedia and those places too but they will charge you the whole amount right then and if the price drops you will be s.o.l.

Book with the hotels and you get to change it or cancel.

Look at their rate calendars to pick your days. some days will be cheaper then others. weekends are more expensive and vegas being a 24/7 place you really dont need to be there on the weekend.

    Have fun.

At a club you're never getting a seat without bottle service -- not at any of the higher end places, anyway.

If you are going to pay for your own room, there are cheaper places than MGM that will give you a bed and a shower. Depends on how spartan you want to live. Although I'd never do it, you could get a room at the Excalibur, which is in the same neighborhood/location. Again, don't take this as a recommendation for a good hotel -- it's not. But if you want to live cheap, it doesn't get cheaper than that.

If you have a nice bankroll why not get two rooms instead of sharing?

what is wrong with sharing a room? If you dont need much, just go to the IP or Bills. Its cheap and basic. Ballys pretty cheap as well.

    Have a great trip!

That's cool, I understand. I guess now that I'm a little older with a bit more income I place more value on having my own room. Personally, I can't imagine having a large bankroll and skimping on a room.

Oh, this is great. You all are great.

Some of the questions I have been having trouble getting answers for have been solved.

I do have a fair bit of play money from my long work stint and not really having any bills but I am still a bit frugal at times. Other times I cant seem to get rid of my money fast enough.

I am glad to know that it wont be boring slow and that booking direct from the hotels seem to be the best choice. To bad on the less scantily clad women but I am sure there will be more than here. I have not seen a woman in 6 months. Plus I will have been bunked up with men for 8+ months before I get out of here. I kinda did not even consider getting two rooms as I am quite use to it.

MGM had a 25% off sale and guaranteed lowest rates. If I book and see lower rates anywhere will they reduce my rate? I probably should just call them and ask.

    Anyway thanks for the insight.

dont get me wrong, you will see plenty of young women, just not in bikinis.
'yes mgm will lower the price if it goes down closer to your visit but ask just the same.

At this point, you should have looked at a handful of hotels and gotten an idea of prices. What are you looking at dollar wise?

Some people think $50 is too much, some think $400 is just fine.

Lots of options and this board will help out.

I would add to bring really comfy walking shoes and lipbalm as you walk a LOT and it is very dry in the desert. I never use lipbalm in regular life but I think I went through two tubes in LV! Stay hydrated. I hope you will write a trip report because the contrast of Alaska versus Vegas will be pretty mindwarping. I just spent a week up near the Arctic circle and boy, even the tiniest towns seem huge after wilderness. I can't imagine how you will experience the difference!

LV is a place like no other, and it's easy to go crazy - keep reading this board for tips. Here's another:

If you have not seen a live woman in eight months, I would definitely get the single room! ;)
