Luxor: a few changes

We generally stay at the luxor as it's our "home" casino in Vegas.

The Pyramid Cafe is now only open 7am-3pm which is inconvenient if you want a "sit down" quick eat at the Luxor that doesn't involve fast food after 3pm. Backstage Deli is now the 24hour "to go" eatery, which we didn't find was as convenient if there was a line you had to wait, we didn't notice a "card" line for gold/platinum players. Normally we do the cafe as it's quick and easy on our short trips, we found this change to affect us the most.

Centra opens up in the middle of the casino where Liquidity previous was located. The environment seems inviting and is a great space to people watch while visiting as it an open space in the middle of the casino. I did miss the decor Liquidity added in the surrounding area but it seems less crowded walking around Centra than it did with Liquidity.

We were staying in a suite and there were a few changes to the room that we noticed (West Tower we are unsure if all the rooms have these options) Upon entering we noticed both TV's were flat screens our last stay the suite we had didn't have flat screens. BONUS: I was able to pick up a wireless connection in the hotel room this trip instead of being tied to the ethernet cord, I didn't take my phone to the casino floor to check if wireless was available in any other location. And the biggest bonus was the "in room safe" which we have never had previous stays.

As a slot player I have to say the biggest change is the slot machines, I can go once a month or once every 3 months and there is always a change in the variety of slot machines they offer. A lot of the new machines are themed, but not all... and I am always watching for the "premium" machine and do not play them much. I am not a fan of the new "premium" themed machines as I find they pay very little to what you bet and when you are betting a dollar and hit a big win and it is $5 it discourages me and I move on; which I find most of the themed machines do these days. The Luxor has a good variety of "non premium" machines and I think that is one of the things I like best about it.

 

Wow! The Pyramid Cafe was always one of my favorite hang outs when I used to stay at Luxor.
I would get a booth over-looking the Casino floor and just people watch while waiting on my meal.
I always felt the food, the service, price and the wait staff were fairly consistent.

the pyramid rooms i thought where gross,the need more than a good cleaning

I'm not a fan of the location, prefer to be a bit further north. I like the pool a few years ago, but I think it's too much of a younger crowd now that I'm a bit older, so I'll probably avoid it this coming trip.

 

Why does Luxor stink so bad?

LOL... Ever walked through the Mandalay shops into Luxor... You instantly notice the change from the nice scent of Mandalay Bay to some very odd/strange smell as soon as you enter Luxor. It's been like this for several years. It's like some kind of musty/mildewy/moldy type of smell. Like a burning piece of plastic. Once your there for awhile, you tend to forget about it. Although it does hit you pretty hard when you first get there.

I would not mind staying there. The offers are good but that stench keeps me away!

Thanks for the update.

Can I just ask which suite you were staying in? We are going in September and have a luxury suite with adjoining queen connector in the Tower. Just wondering as these rooms didn't have a room safe on our last visit and its one of my pet hates about the rooms here.

The deposit boxes are ok but its much more convienient with an in room safe.

Other than that we find the Luxor great.

Shame about the Pyramid Cafe as it always used to be open really early doors for breakfast and right through the day. Theres not really mcuh else for food other than fast food or proper resteraunts. I'm not such a big fan of the backstage deli.

i was told there are safes in the tower suites but cant confirm only the regular rooms dont.the safe deposite thing suxed . there could be a half hour or more wait if there crowded to get to yours

 

I stayed in a regular tower room last october and there was a safe. Friends of us stayed at luxor in nune and they had a safe aswell.

Good information. Luxor used to be our home casino. I always liked their luxury suites and am glad to hear they have updated them a bit.

 

It's Safe to say...

When was the last time you were there? I've stayed in both Towers on several occasions and could have sworn they had room safes.

 

Wow that's terrible news about the Pyramid Cafe.

That was always our go-to place for a late bite when staying at the Luxor.

Bummer.

 

We always stay in the Luxury Suites when we are there It was west tower.. in Jan & Feb we were in East towers and there was no safe or flat screens in our suite and the Pyramid cafe was open 24hours at the time.

I hear you all about the food choices that are left, we have decided we will be eating more at Raffles at Mandalay for us now as it's got a fabulous menu and we have yet to be disappointed there. Which will probably mean Mandalay will get more of our bankroll.

Another thing I miss is the room key activating the elevators, now you just hop in, press your floor and up you go. I can understand the change as there were countless elevator rides where we were explaining to people how to use their key to get to the floor .. or see people going up and down as they couldn't get it to work.. Actually it provided entertainment when I think about it. That was just one of those little things that made you feel that wee bit secure even though most people all hopped in one elevator and one person would activate it and everyone would press their floor # and up it went.

Not sure about removing the key entry from the lifts though -I always feel thats a decent security feature for any large hotel.

If your heading to Mandalay andfor Food and like a Burger check out the Burger Bar we always end up there a couple of times a trip. Love it.

We used to hit up the Pyramid Cafe for breakfast even though we weren't staying at Luxor.
A couple years back it seemed like the meals were going downhill and the prices where going up which is a shame because I had some great breakfasts there.
We haven't been back.

 

I have always preffered Backstage myself, wait or not to the Pyramid which I always felt was very mediocre. Rather have the buffet actually than Pyramid.

 

As long as the buffet hasnt changed any ill be happy! Luxor has my fave breakfast buffet on the strip bar none! The made to order omlettes are simply amazing!

 

Yet another change made to the Luxor to shove it further down my list of must visit or stay places. There was a time when we wouldn't stay anywhere *but* the Luxor. When we left at the end of a trip, we were already looking forward to our next visit there and longing to go back. I'm so depressed when I see it now and think about how happy it used to make me. The Pyramid Cafe was a place we loved to go for a late dinner or a snack or breakfast and we had a long tradition of arriving late on a Friday night from an evening flight from Florida and heading to the Pyramid to sit and talk and take in the casino atmosphere. I still remember one year we were sitting there waiting for our food late at night and all the power went out. Emergency lights came on but nothing else for a long time. They told us they could only make certain menu items because they had no power in the back. We laughed and laughed when the first things that had power restored were the slot machines.

 

I'm very disappointed in the new hours for the Pyramid cafe. 3PM seems way too early to shut down. I also loved Liquidity, but I'll give the new bar a try next time I"m there.
