Any tours to find/pan for gold or stones and actually keep what you find around Las Vegas area?

Panning for gold requires running water and alluvial gold deposits.

Neither is common around Las Vegas. The running water is in the Bellagio Fountains and the gold is behind armored glass downtown.

That would be neat if it was possible.

The travel channel had a show and each episode they would travel to a different state where anyone can search for gold, diamonds, fossils and other gems.

IIRC, in North Nevada there is a place you can go searching for opal.

Try Kingman, AZ. World famous mine and LOTS of trailmarkers.

If I were to go anywhere in search of any treasure in the continental US, it would have to be that Nat'l Park in Arkansas where I am always reading about people finding huge ass diamonds.

It's not a tour but the Golden Nugget does have a vending machine that dispenses gold. No panning necessary.

Fun trip and you can find many smaller diamonds there, we had a necklace made for my wife from all the little ones we found there on our trip. A friend of my moms who lives in Ark actually found one that was a little over 1.25 carats in weight but not exactly jewelery quality since it had a lot of flaws in it. Ya may not get rich and find the next Hope diamond but it's pretty fun to find earths treasures out there.

Are you looking for a touristy place to put a pan in some water, or are you looking for real gold panning out in the wilderness? I know there are a few places with exhibits on gold panning within driving distance of Vegas.

I haven't ever hunted around Nevada. I did some dry washing in Arizona, but that was closer to Quartzite than the Lake Havasu area. Also, I know that the GPAA has a LV Chapter. Here's their website - http://www.lvgpaa.com/ They might be able to help you get an idea where the gold is to be found.

Most of the mining placers in and around Southern Nevada are silver mines.

Last place I panned for gold was in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Oh, and that huge chunk of gold downtown protected by armored glass was found in Australia I believe! But it does live in Vegas.

Nevada was never known for gold panning. When the "Gold Rush" happened in the mid 1800's it was California that people were rushing to get to, not Nevada.

With that being said, the only gold I have ever found in Las Vegas was my MLife Gold Card. And just like iron pyrite (aka "Fool's Gold"), it is basically worthless.

I've seen people panning in the hualapai mountains in Kingman, AZ and outside Phoenix in Crown King, AZ. We run into them on off-road adventures.

Try the area 2-3 miles south of The M casino, a friend of mine has been killing it in that area with his metal detector.
