hi all, we just got back from a week stay. 2 nights at the d and 5 at the plaza. checkin at plaza was fast and courteous and we got a super clean room in the back tower on 16th floor facing the railroad tracks and were not bothered by noise at all and room was spotless. ac could freeze you if you cranked it up and it was 115 degrees a day or 2. parking was super convenient and we were in and out at all hours of the day and night.pool was quiet most of the time and 10 ounce frozen drinks were only 6 bucks. will also mention that the pop up pizza in the casino area makes one of the best thin crust pizza we have ever tasted.you can buy a whole pie or by the slice. oh and also the ice machine worked like a charm!
Sounds like things are getting better except for the Resort Fee. Too bad, they couldn't have at least waited until they got all their s*** together! Jimbo338
most times the casino seemed pretty quiet. drink service was ok even when it was slow which is a shame as the place was really pretty nice. maybe after more people become aware how much they have improved the place things will pick up for them.
The media blitz has come and gone, with ribbon cuttings, celebrities, grand openings, etc. If people aren't aware by now, I doubt they're going to be. It doesn't help matters that they were sued by the Fremont Street Experience for not paying their share of expenses, causing them to be removed from all of the group advertising and event participation.
wow, I wasn`t aware of them stiffing the fremont experience. the stuff they are doing and have done is the main reason a lot of places downtown have survived the downturn. In that case maybe they are reaping what they sow.
What I remember is the Union Plaza never joined the Fremont Experience group. They weren't going to be under the light show plus blocking off Fremont St. from traffic actually hurt them. BTW, I drove Fremont St. the last day it was open to traffic. Pretty exciting, right?
I envy you for that priviledge, Don. Here's a link detailing the matter with FSE and Plaza: http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/may/04/fremont-street-experience-operator-sues-plaza-hote/
Since 2006, the FSE was built in 1994. Also, I think those payments were for the Vegas Club which is under the canopy.
That would make sense, although I distinctly recall, as well as having video clips of, Plaza being mentioned after the hourly show in their list of supporters. I wonder why they focused the article around the Plaza instead of their parent company, though.
Without a busy casino bringing in money, it's just a matter of time for them to fail, they spruced up the place but dont have the common sense to appeal to downtown players. Just another mistake in a long line of mistakes. I cant imagine how drink service was slow with few drinks being served, once again the question needs to be asked, Who's running the place and why dont they care?
Wow, I was there that weekend as well! It was pretty eerie walking out of the LVC the next morning to an empty street. Workers were already cutting down traffic/parking signs at the curb. I took one out of the pile and saved it as a souvenier.
we paid an upcharge for a remodeled room and on arrival they told us only an old room was available. when they realized we were not settling for the old room they mysteriously found a remodeled one. the room was really nice and bed was awesome but the ac crapped out in middle of the night so they moved us to another room that luckily was across the hall.kind of a pain but I guess that can happen anywhere when it`s over 100 degrees. as far as the casino it didn`t do much for us but on fremont it really doesn`t matter as everything is so close.
It will be interesting to see the improvements. We used to gamble a lot at the Fitz and loved the vibe, but on more recent trips we barely set foot in the place. Hope it does well. Did they change anything to the Vue Bar? We liked that spot.
Regarding the " D ", Do you recall if the new remodeled rooms had coffee makers and or mini fridges in them? Thanks, Dana0069
there were no coffee makers or fridges in the room but I read somewhere that most hotels will provide a fridge as a lot of people need them for medical supplies.
So not only did they NOT have a remodeled room for you upon arrival, but after they mysteriously found one - they were able to move you to another one mysteriously available across the hall. Sounds shady!
