    Well....almost installed.....they're not quite finished.
    .
Yeh....I get it....we're a public building - we do need them.
    However....
I know that I will be "MUST WATCH TV" on MANY mornings !
Yes, I arrive and work for 2.5 hrs before my Boss ( and her nasty
    "secretary from hell" ) arrives.
They have always had questions about "what do you do ?" in
    the early a.m. ?
As if they can't see 7 clean bathrooms....vaccumed carpet, garbage bags,etc.:rolleyes2: when they arrive late for work !

I do eat breakfast for one half hour --- however, THAT will not be
viewed on the "Security" cameras --- I will eat away from view.
I have found several "blind" spots and will take advantage of it.
    .
We also have a "childish" rule :
"You cannot leave the building on 15 min. breaks"
    I leave if I need to....screw that !
We have a supermarket across the street + 2 banks on the block.
Many times i have banked a check or gotten food across the street
    within 15 mins.
However, I am damn sure....."The Gruesome Twosome" will be replaying
the exit cameras on my early shift !
But I have found an exit with no camera + will use it.
And why they have no Security Camera on this exit is beyond my
    comprehension ?
And I'm not gonna bring it up to anybody....I don't care if it's unsecured.
    "Not my call.":nono:
    .
    Anyway --
I was thinking of writing a sign + holding it up to the camera when I
    arrive.
I don't know ?......."MUST SEE TV !".....:evillaugh
But decided I'll play dumb, instead ---
as if I don't realize they will be watching my work habits.
    .
I do question the ethics of this stuff.

I feel your pain. We got cameras put up in all the hallways and various other places of our school last summer. Our principal has two multi-shot monitors that she seems addicted to. Everytime I go by her office and look in, she is watching the show.

    A co-worker who works a second job -
her second job has cameras and she has
said, "That boss never comes outta her office now -
she's always watching her camera screen."
    .
It is interesting to me that they put a camera that
can view my small office door --- supposedly, the camera
is to view an exit door nearby.:rolleyes2:
If that's all they wanted to see -- they could have put
the camera completely facing it -- not including my door.:Þ

As a bit of friendly advice, a lot of the times when security systems are put in you can't see all the cameras.

of course it would be funny to mocj the cameras but not smart.

The smart person would do just like you are doing and use their alone time in the mornings to gather intel as to the blind spots, power usage, etc.

I am sure if these are like most, there will be tons of glitches with them that the bosses wont even realize. noticing how they are powered such as if they are plugged in, etc would help as well. also if they are the rotating kind knowing where the stops are can aid in your mission whatever that might be.

this is a new toy for them so they will use it alot until they grow tired of it and then they will get into a routine and thats when you will be able to exploit them better.

Bide your time and let natural complacency kick in.

Of course if the system is overly complex then they will grow tired of it quicker so be sure not to help explain anything to them if they ask even though the answers might be obvious. If asked, claim ignorance and try to confuse them by stating that the thing is way too complex for you. Then they will have no choice but to call some it guy or tech who will of course, make it more complex then it actually is.

if you help them solve easy things then you are putting yourself at a disadvantage.

knowledge is power, surveillance is just a salve for the weak minded.

Check the dot on the number 3 on a recently installed and screwed to the wall clock if it looks like it has a hole in it then it is probably a camera , one of many covert places they can be hidden .

All I can say is I'm glad I'm retired. I never did anything wrong, but the thought of being monitored all day at work is wrong.:nono:

You can hide them anywhere these days. The last place I worked at that installed them did so to catch people stealing. People assumed they knew where all the cameras were and got collared by the hidden ones.

Regarding natural complacency: these days most decent surveillance systems are motion activated and motion tracking so they will never get bored of looking.

It is wrong, but these days you can't trust anyone. In the last three months we have "lost" everything from speaker wire to a tin opener and knives and forks in our office. It's getting to the point where we would rather be monitored than worry about leaving anything on our desks. We are pretty sure we know who it is, but without proof you're just inviting a lawsuit.

    so you actually want this?

and then of course they will uninstall them after they catch the petty thief because they wont need them any longer.

you know that wont happen either.

a good boss will use cameras to protect the company and nothing more. unfortunately most bosses are not good and are stuck on power trips and working on moving up the ladder. that's why i'll never work for someone else ever again.

It won't bother me to be honest. All I do in the office is sit at my desk and work, or go to the canteen or bathroom.

Just a way of extreme mirco manager and controling certain behaviors. I work from home, for a rather large corp. have a compony supplied laptop, All E-mail are sent thru main server and property of the Corp. and are flagged for wording, inappropriate and unprofessional conversations, all web surfing is monitored and certain sites restricted, Hell I would not put it past them they can view me from my built in web cam  I have seen employees fired because of a simple slip-up in an email, word of advice, never hit "reply to all"

Dont get into a cat & mouse game if you can help it.

Say something like"Boy I'm glad they put in these cameras,I'm so busy I cant watch who's coming in and out of here" or "thank god, lately I've seen some really shady people hanging around here"
But if she should catch you comitting some minor offense try:
The first time -look really sad and say"I'm sorry ,I wont do it again".
The second time -look confused and just say" I forgot, sorry".
The third time look really offended and say " I'm not talking to you cause you yelled at me".
    Good luck..

On the entrances, even the hallways, I wouldn't mind cameras so much, but those of you who have them spying down into your offices - that would be too darn creepy and intrusive. I think my sense of humor just might make me do things that are funny but not outrageous enough to get me fired. Lets see, like shifting in my seat every few minutes as if passing gas and waving my hand around in the air to waft it away. Or making faces like I'm stretching my jaw - but endlessly, adjusting my bra, scratching something - good grief, the list could go on forever!

I respectfully disagree. I don't see security cameras as micro-managing. To be honest, in large corporations I don't see restricting access and monitoring web surfing as such either. Some people will always take advantage of freedoms they are given and when you have a large number of employees it's just a more pragmatic approach to have rules in place.

And don't think just because the boss is out of the office that he aint watching you , most current systems are viewable from anywhere, smart phone , i-pad, etc.
