hi,we are three days at the mirage.the room is already booked and paid.
the other two days i am not sure.
i like to stay the two days downtown but my wife is not so impressed of my idea.
    what is with this example:
travel from san diego to the plaza, check in,rock downtown.next day to the other strip side, maybe Tropicana (?) for one night and the last three days the Mirage.
or did someone have an other great idea? i like downtown but it is not a "must sleep" there.
    we have a rental car.but i like to drink.:nworthy:
i do not know how i can handle it.
the hotel prices should not be the highest if it is possible.
    hope you can help me.
sorry for my bad english .we are from germany.
thanks a lot for your help

Okay, if you opt to not just stay put at Mirage, then I would strongly suggest only one other place. Assuming you want strip, then maybe the other end for two nights. NYNY, or Mandalay Bay maybe?

Yea maybe pick something South strip. like Mandalay Bay, that's a nice one. Or more budget friendly maybe Luxor, Luxor I would say is good for the budget, and for drinking.

Or maybe try a Caesar property like Paris or PH I feel the "vibe" is a little different than Mirage.

Or go off strip maybe Palms or Hard Rock.

In my opinion, I wouldn't ever choose stay Downtown. Prices are reasonable enough that you really don't need to anymore.

we have been to vegas many times over the years and now we like downtown as much as the strip but we like to change it out now.

a few nights on strip and a few downtown or even just one or the other if a short trip and lots of running back and forth as long as it`s the gold bus or taxi, not the horrble deuce.

you can get good deals on the strip but you can get a room at the newly renovated plaza downtown for thirty bucks weekdays and under seventy on the weekend. many people are unaware of all the big changes happening on fremont now.

also there are so many reasonable and good food choices and the free entertainment can`t be beat.

But there are those of us who love downtown and really dislike the Strip and it has nothing to do with room rates.

DT is a totally different experience than the Strip.

To the OP, I would stay downtown first and then move to the Strip and as mentioned the new Plaza is a good option.

Golden Nugget Rush Tower is a nice stay downtown. It has a Strip place feel to it. I would do one night there.

BTW - I live in the SF area if you need any suggestions.

During the Summer of 2010 I did a multi-hotel Trip that started at Mirage for Two Nights, the Rush Tower at Golden Nugget for 1 Night, then ended at THEhotel at MB for 3 nights. North Strip, Downtown, South Strip.......Great Trip!!!!

the thing with downtown (have never booked a room downtown fyi) is that people see the cheap dirty outside (not a bad thing) but dont know about the awesome rooms i have read about here..

seems like you can get almost a bellagio level room for dirt cheap downtown.

my only problem with downtown is unless your staying there, you might want to high tail out of there after midnight ... it just gets to shady

I would agree w/ the previous poster and just stay at The Mirage the rest of the trip.

If you were to change, I'd go to the Mandalay Bay for a few nights if you are looking at the same room budget, or if you want to go cheaper, I'd personally stay at the Monte Carlo.

Whether you’re on the strip or downtown, as long as you stay in the touristy areas of LV, you really shouldn’t be too concerned about your safety. Most areas are well lit and there are plenty of visible security guards and/or police officers all over the place. Certainly you shouldn’t be complacent – always be aware of your surroundings and know where your $ is at all times. But, I’ve never felt uneasy in any of the touristy areas of LV. And downtown isn’t any better or worse than the strip, IMO.

If you ever feel worried, just go into the nearest casino and find a security guard.

As far as your original question: I would suggest the same thing that others have said. Either try downtown or something on the south strip – Mandalay Bay, MGM, Tropicana. If the wife needs a fancy room/hotel, but you want to stay downtown, try Golden Nugget.

Or you could check out the newest places on the strip – Aria or Cosmo. That would be an interesting way to bookend your trip. Start out at Mirage – the hotel/casino that started the era of the mega-resort – and finish up with the 21st century interpretation.

The way I look at it is it's both of your vacations so there needs to be a comprimise. Stay your 2 days downtown and the rest at the Mirage. That's what I call a comprimise and I'm a woman. The wives shouldn't have all the say on where to stay.
