    Carnevino

I recently posted an extensive review of Carnevino in the restaurants thread if you haven't read it yet - I have had a number of excellent meals at Carnevino over the years, so it definitely gets my vote

I wasn't really wowed by Jean-Georges on our last trip - good, but not great [I have a review posted on that one a little further back in the restaurant section as well from our last trip in January].

I read both those reviews and that has me definitely leaning towards Carnevino, but I wanted to get a general feel, too.

Great trip report AND food reports.

I've eaten at three of the four restaurants on your poll. My favorite Vegas steakhouse is Charlie Palmer, followed by Prime and Jean Georges.

After Jilly's wonderful review, eating at Carnevino is at the top of our list for our next trip. :licklips:

I, too, after Jilly's last review, am leaning towards Carnevino.

I ate at Carnevino and was not impressed. You could not even put it in the same room as Prime IMO.

RPM, what did you find to be the difference between the two? was the food quality different or service? I'm curious because while Carnevino has it's advocates, there are plenty of people that are not impressed and don't enjoy it, so I'd like to know what exactly didn't appease you (and also what Prime did that made it significantly better).

    Thanks!

I voted for Prime. I'd like to try Charlie Palmer as I've heard good things about it. JG is decent, but the place is very dark. I know Jilly is big fan, but I didn't like Carnevino. I tried it a couple of times and the steak is average (dry and bland) for an upscale steakhouse, nothing special. The atmosphere was also terrible both times.

First, I asked for a Filet medium-rare, and got it closer to medium-well. The steak was still really tender, juicy and hot so I didn't complain too much. I got the mashed potatoes, and they were totally bland. I just found the quality of the food, and certainly the atmosphere at Prime light-years better than Carnevino. Service was about equal however.

We had a group of 6 eat at Carnevino in September. We had lousy service and the food was just average. I have eaten at several steakhouses (Delmonico, Boa, Prime, SW) and Carnevino comes in last.

I've only eaten at Jean Georges, it was delicious, but Oh My God was it expensive. I think you may be able to do better with ambience somewhere else.

Ive only ever eaten at the steakhouse in Circus Circus, the ONLY reason i will ever set foot in that place, i enjoyed the food that much tho i can just about handle running the guantlet past all the screaming kids etc because i know whats coming when i reach the steakhouse. Could anyone recommend an alternative though which would be similar in price as i wouldnt mind trying elsewhere but im not one for spending a fortune on food, its just not my thing, would much rather throw my money away to the casinos lol

I am also in the camp voting for Prime (out of the choices provided) - and have had sub-par food with mediocre service at Carnevino. I definitely do not recommend 'C' to friends and family asking for recommendations.

Voted for Prime, as it's the only one I've been to and had a terrific meal there. The reviews at this site have me itching to go to Carnevino next time out though...

I'll add another steakhouse to this list which, after dining there, I feel is extremely underrated, and that's Joe's Stone Crab at the Forum Shops. Forget the Stone Crab Apps (yes, they're very good...) for a minute and dig into their steaks (I believe dry aged?). The signature bone in Filet is the best Filet I have ever eaten anywhere. The sides are massive (get half orders and try several..they are very accomodating in this respect.) and delicious. Service was second to none, and was, relatively speaking, very affordable, particularly compared to what they're listing at places like Carnevino and Cut. If you enjoy a "Chicago Style" steakhouse experience, go to Joe's ( the original is of course in Miami<g>) you will not be dissappointed...
