I visited the Freemont Street Experience a while back, and I'm just wondering what to expect currently:
When is the better time to visit - weekdays or weekends? Is it completely dead on weekdays, or on the other side of the spectrum - is it way too overcrowded on weekends? We're staying at the Mirage, but definitely plan on hangin downtown, as it has a lot to offer, too.....just need to know more about it, and what to expect. Thanks!!:nworthy:

Fremont Experience will probably be the same as when you last left it...full of Drunks, Tramps and Degenerates.

Oh please, that is so far from the truth.:nono: Posted by someone who lists 1 trip to Vegas.

Any evening is when FS is hopping. During the early day not too much happening, begins to pickup late afternoons and continues to get busy as the overhead shows start at 8 PM. Weekends, usually 2 or 3 live bands playing on the different stages, but even weekday nights get busy for the overhead show.

How long has it been since your last trip? Several years ago they redid the dome using new led lighting for 6 times better resolution. I was never in awe of the show but it is unique and impressive. New for 2 years is a zip line down the center and people seem to really enjoy riding as well as the spectators. Gold Spike was gutted, refurnished and has some nice basic rooms, and a decent restaurant, El Cortez cleaned out the Ogden House and redid it opening as the Cabana suites. Golden Gate is going to build a tower, and has purchased Fitzgeralds. El cortez built a courtyard for an entrance from LV Blvd. and there is new development on Fremont East, including a center median with old neon lights. the Plaza towers have been renovated and refurnished., Binions closed the hotel but kept their casino open, they are working on the old Lady Luck which will be the Downtown Grand if it ever does really open up again! These are a few of the recent changes. I am usually in LV in February and downtown is well attended during the week and more so on weekends. Several times I was there while Nascar was in town and downtown was packed but there was no less fun with live bands, street entertainers and a lot of fun for all. I think you can have a good time any night but if you like people visit on a weekend. I stay downtown now,,,,,,just so convenient and comfortable.......and I can grab a bus if I need to do anything on the Strip!

What?!! You mean there are no drunks tramps and degenerates at the FSE? Those are the only reasons I go Downtown. Oh, also for the Beef Booze and Broads, but that's really the same thing.

    I Love LV!

I think you need to take a step back and see what your post looks like to the OP who has only been to FSE once, years ago. I guess you were making a joke, but it doesn't come off that way. It looks very negative and in reality FSE is a fun & safe place.

There are so many security people around they are sometimes tripping over each other.

I feel safer on Fremont than I do walking the Strip at night. Just my .02.

I said there was, were and are Drunks, Tramps and Degenerates at the FSE, not axe murderers.

I do agree with you, I feel safe among the *********. Actually the security people are the ones that scare me.

One of the primary reasons I go to FSE is to hear the bands. And, they often bring out the "big guns" on the weekend. Sure, there's often many people but FSE is built to handle them. Even the people around the stage(s) during performances aren't packed tight and you can snag a good spot easily.

Yeah, I'm an unapologetic Strip snob, but on the rare occasions I've gone Downtown, I've always felt safe under the canopy.

Thank you all for this helpful information!! Jimbo - thanks for all the updates on current upgrades. Now we can run with our plans, and that was to visit Freemont on the weekend. 2-3 live bands sounds GREAT to me!! And I'm from the Midwest, so I can certainly understand Donuts humor - I was not offended in any way. Joe - thanks for the information and webistes for coupons - well appreciated!! Thanks Ute and Alasted!! Thanks again everyone - this site is incredibly helpful!!
    Gregg.

You will see alot of familys downtown. Not something that is expected but it makes sense. Its something they can actually do together. free entertainment and night too.

Its best to get there during the day and take in some of the casinos. Drink a belly full, do some inexpensive gaming and have fun with non pretentious people or "*********" as we are termed on alot of sites.

Then once the shows start you will be ready to have some fun.

Its not just theoverhead show either. they have live bands all the time. There are 3 stages that alternate the live music and they are all quite good. in between is the overhead show.

Along with this you can see Carl "safe sax" Ferris. he is pretty good on the saxaphone but personally creeps me out but thats just my hang up I guess.

I have seen countless live bands plus one i saw some guys in one of those balls of death motorcycle things where they get into this metal ball and drive like maniacs. very lous smelly and fun. i loved that show.

Sure there are some homeless folks but they shuffle them alogn and there is more security precense downtown then on the strip.

i contend that its safer downtown because people are policing themsleves and not distracted by millions of lghts and fountains.

Not to mention all the goofy people dressed up like it is halloween. At times, it is hard to discern the people who are doing it for money, vs the people who just dress that way. Last month there was a guy dressed like a gal. I finally had to back up against Binions wall just to watch for a while and try to figure out if it was a really ugly lady, or a really ugly guy. It was the latter. Not sure if that is more or less disturbing.

Try out Drink and Drag if there are a few of you.

I have always been a strip snob, but I am now a downtown convert. Last year when I was in Vegas I stayed two nights on the strip and one downtown, I loved the strip but loved downtown even more. The free entertainment was great, saved me tons of money from spending it in the casninos and I felt safe. The one time someone really was bugging me, one of the store people came out and ran the guy off w/o me even looking bothered. Basically guy comes up to me and starts asking for change, I tell him no and he asked again and store guy comes out and gets him out of there, and I was not a customer of the store, just walking down the street. Feel free to check out my youtube channel for some videos from Fremont Street last year. I was there on a Thurs night, granted it was the Thurs before Nascar and it got packed quick.

Not a problem. I should add that part of the reason other than the atmosphere that I loved it so much is that I have a bad knee and both ankles are bad making me nearly disabled and walking from casino to casnio was so easy and even for a slow walker like me I was able to walk it multiple times. Hope Golden Gate does not do away with the bartop dancers :wink2:
