    Hey everyone,

Just curious what all of your thoughts are on this. I'm a burgeoning degenerate gambler who has taken a liking to 9/6 JoB. I've memorized the basic strategy (I make about 1 error per 100 hands, but usually just a small EV mistake), so I'd like to stick with that game.

My issue is where to play. I'd like to play at a $1-$2 per hand (5-10 with max coin) level. It seems that there are limited options on the strip at that level.

I've found a few options out there, and was wondering in terms of the casino being nice, drink service good, and hopefully smoking minimal what you would suggest. I could also learn BP strategy, but it seems like there is a lot of variability there and I don't actually want to learn another strategy.

I'd also rather play at the Bellagio since I'm staying there, and kind of want to play at the $5 level, but to be honest, unless my companies share price goes up a lot more than I am expecting before I cash out...that might be a disaster.

    Thanks!

    My options I see are:

Bellagio, there is one spinpoker machine that starts at $2 and I could only play one line.

MGM Grand, where there seems to be a few options in the $1+ range. I like because it is part of M-Life, but otherwise, seems to be not-so-great.

NyNy, same as above but limits start at 25c, not that it matters to me. I'd rather play at the $1 level.

Treasure Island, this would be my pick I think, if it was part of M-Life. Lots of JoB at $1+ level.

I enjoy Planey Hollywood. They have a nice bank of about 15 machines all in one row. They are facing the stairs heading down to the all you can eat. They have a. Lear view of the rest on the casino floor so there is always something to look at.

    That's not remotely relevant.

OP ... you've listed basically all the 9/6 JOB available on the strip. Keep in mind that the NYNY machines don't give any comps. You'll also get basically nothing from your play at TI, who are stingy enough as it is, and appear to nerf the comp rate on the 9/6 machines even more.

I always use http://www.vpfree2.com/ to plan my video poker runs. People post the best theoretical returns and you can search by hotel or by game. It's not always 100% up-to-date, but it's a great start for finding the machines with the highest theoretical return.

Bonus Poker does have a pretty high volatility and really depends on you having a bankroll big enough to play for a sustained period of time where you can let those bigger hands hit and ride out the downswings when they don't.

Asking about drink service and smoking is purely anecdotal and I wouldn't give any weight to comments on other people's experiences - last trip we stayed at Aria for two nights and I was playing some 50c JoB where the first night drink service was great and the waitress was coming around about every 10 minutes... the second night I was playing the exact same machine and for about 2.5 hours I did not see a single waitress in my area. So what you get one night or somebody experienced their last time has nothing to do with what you can expect when you get there.

Otherwise I was just going to suggest that you play where you find a good pay table and atmosphere you like... I wouldn't worry too much about the comp program or trying to stick with MLife because if you are looking for 9/6 JoB its likely that either you won't get rated at all or it will be so poorly that even though you are looking to bet $5-10 per hand its not going to amount to much in the way of comps.

Auggie ... The variance rate on 8/5 Bonus Poker (99.17% game) is 20.9, compared to 9/6 JOB (99.54% game), which is 19.5 , according to VPfree. Not sure I would call that a "pretty high volatility".

If you want to compare something that is more highly volatile, full-pay 15-9-5 Deuces Wild has a variance rate of 25.8 , full-pay 10/7 Double Bonus is 28.3 , and the typical 9/6 DDB is 42.0 .

I would play at a Station casino - probably Red Rock. Deuces Wild. On/near the strip I'd play JoB at NYNY.

    8/5 Bonus

I agree that 8/5 Bonus is a good alternative. It is pretty similar in terms of strategy, volatility and EV, and is a little more widely available than 9/6 JOB.

VPFree shows 2 of those at Bellagio at $1. Might be worth a look.

Yeah thats right... I was thinking about Double Bonus where they don't pay 2 for two pair (on one credit bet).

Why is that not relevant? I think having a good view of things and having a good time is important. If you want to play V/P and only break even, you could just stay home. Yes?

    Video poker=Southpoint

Southpoint, hands down, my fav place for VP.

    Here are the winners today

The casino is clean & not smokey, Good drink service and when your hungry Del-Mar Deli is great, or after 10Pm in the Cornado cafe is a number of tasty player food specials,
we get the Prime rib, w/the trimmings, like $12 a person-players special, or the graveyard special $3.95 steak & eggs.

    Well worth the Cab fare!

As others have pointed out, you will be struggling to find full pay JOB at $1/$2 on the strip. There are plenty of places off strip so no point mentioning them all, unless you intend to spend a lot of time away from the strip.

Forget about tracking down one half decent pay table at Bellagio and playing one line. Not worth the hassle and you are basically giving up the Royal Flush returns. I have tried to find $1/$2 BP without success.

You can play Bonus Poker with JOB strategy. You do not need to learn a new strategy. So if you want to play full pay at $1/$2 on the strip your options are -

    1. JOB at NYNY. No comps
    2. BP at Casino Royale. Not quite the experience you are seeking
    3. JOB at TI. Not Mlife and TI ask for $15 coin-in per point for 9/6 JOB. Nice machines, decent environment and my experience is that they are reasonably generous with room offers. If you give them a fair bit of play while you are staying elsewhere you might want to approach a host to say hello and perhaps get a meal comp.

If none of those options appeal then you are going to have to up your play to $5, accept worse pay tables or head off strip. It's as simple as that! Good luck.

Thanks all for the suggestions! I think I'll end up playing a little at the Bellagio and more at the Treasure Island.

I'll let you all know in a trip report!

The question was about 9/6 JOB. Those machines are not 9/6 (8/5 last time I looked). There are no 9/6 JOB machines at CET under $5 that are not mistakes.

Playing 8/5 at the dollar level, assuming perfect play which I would imagine almost no one knows, could cost over $100 an hour ASSUMING you hit a royal at some stage. Not everyone is comfortable with that.

Not smokey, are you being sarcastic?

The locals have nicknamed the joint Smokeypoint.

Del-Mar Deli is one of the most overpriced delis around and not exactly sanitary.

Worth the cab fare, :rolleyes2:, rent a car for for an entire day for the same price of a cab from mid-strip to Smokeypoint.

Please post the exact location of the said $2 JOB machine at Bellagio, according to VPfree information. I couldn't find it in my last trip, although I checked every single machine in that area. Thank you.
