Frugal, cheap or whatever you want to call it.The bottom line(to us anyway) is to live and gamble within your means whatever they may be. We go to AC probably 3-4 times at least each month and once or sometimes twice each year to LV. We gamble what we afford to lose and dont chase after the next higher TR tiers that we cant really afford to be in.We have lots of friends who have the higher tier ratings, but their means exceed ours and thats good for them.

Absolutely true, especially if you have a good time, blowing wads of money you can barely afford, and being miserable about it, isnt exactly high living.

It's all about spending within your means. I'm 25 and have bought a house, so I'm saving as much money as I can. I do enjoy Vegas on the cheap. Just walking the strip at night with a beer with my buddies dressed up nicely is fine for me. I do enjoy a fine game of craps though:nworthy:

We love to gamble but certainly are cheapos. I stick with penny and nickel machines and hubby is the $2 or $5 horse race better. We allow a few hundred, maybe a little more per person regardless of how many days we plan on staying. The days are spent sight seeing, with the exception of a couple days playing the ponies in the afternoon. I made the mistake one year of borrowing a couple hundred on my credit card: OMG the fees taught me a good lesson. I might go to the ATM once on the trip but never use the CC again.

When I was in college (okay, seems like a lifetime ago), me and 2 buddies drove to Vegas last minute, barely could afford the hotel room at the Riviera (one of us had to sleep on floor). We pooled our money, bought $30 worth of nickels and walked to the MGM Grand, hitting as many casinos as we could, getting 1 beer at each place. Time we got to MGM Grand, we were quite tipsy and had enough money left to cab back to Riviera. Although our gambling spending habits have changed over the years, all 3 of us remember that trip as one of our bests. Oh yeah, dinner when we got back was downstairs at the Burger King at Barbary Coast. (I think I am remembering a BK downstairs but not 100% on that). :D

I don't really understand the point of the original post... I don't think anybody has ever had a "problem" with low rollers.

There are high rollers on this board and there are many who like "living it up" through them in reading their trip reports and such... but I am pretty sure its safe to say that the majority of people here are low rollers or would consider themselves low rollers.

As far as comps and offers, some people equate them to mean only free rooms but forget that a heavily discounted room still counts as an offer... and you have to be realistic in expectations: if you are a $100 a day player you aren't going to get Bellagio or Wynn to send you free nights, but if free rooms are what you are after you should be concentrating play at places where they are more likely: Harrah's, Imperial Palace, Excalibur or Luxor, places where its easier to get free room offers or where you are more likely to get your play rated at the end of your stay to have comps applied to your bill.

Some people look down on low rollers, I dont, I have been one...and to many people, I'm still one(not in my mind though). No one needs to justify, or apologize for spending only what they can afford.

Exactly, I doubt there is anyone on this board that looks down on a low roller. Play within your means, and have fun. Set a daily limit and enjoy your time. I can guarantee you someone out there has had more fun on a $50 day budget than I have had on a $500 day budget. And I have have had way more fun on my $500 budget than a person who spends $5000 a day,

I see so many posts about "comped rooms" that it 'seems' I'm the only one that doesn't get them. I can't imagine how much money one must through a machine for free rooms because when I put in my player card it ticks sooo slowly.

My opinion of this board is that it welcomes everyone, from minnow to whale. One persons high roller is someone else's low roller.
    There are threads for everyone.

I also agree with Auggie that I did not see a reason for this thread.

I had the same reaction ... whoever said there was something wrong with it?

There's something truly special about gambling at a level where you can "drink yourself even".

I threw this out just to get peoples opinions.

Thought maybe it might spark a little discussion, thats my only reason ,sorry if you guys got the idea that I felt somehow inferior or ridiculed for being a low-roller.

We might fight over snob/slob, foodie/grubbie and the like, but low-rollers are in the majority here.

Low-roller here. We enjoy gambling but don't have the interest in putting in the time necessary to get all the "free" stuff. Between the occasional offer -- good note above about the value in casino rates -- and the fact that all Vegas accommodations are subsidized, even for those who don't gamble, if we want to go to Vegas we can find a place to say that we like. Even moving not far past the low end, it's no more than a Motel DeepSix by the side of the interstate.

And want to know one of THE best money-saving tips for Vegas? Flexibility in when you travel and where you stay.

I think Burger King you are talking about was down the street from the Barbary Coast, it was in the back of O'Sheas. How do I know? We used to stay at the Flamingo a couple times a year or more and I alway walked over to BK for coffee.

That is correct. I distinctly remember a Burger King at O'Sheas in the far back right hand corner.
