    My Trip Report

I’m backing out of the driveway heading to pick up L from work to head to Vegas when I back into our daughter’s car. Her car is more or less fine mine has $1200 damage. The irony here is she stopped by out of the blue to mooch a free lunch otherwise her car wouldn’t have even been here.

For some bright idea I decided I wanted to pay to stay the 1st night at Imperil Palace. When I say I paid, one night’s worth of accommodations at the IP ran me $19.04 with tax, yet it still seems like I overpaid. I won’t rag too much on the place as I know several of you like it there, but I won’t be staying there again. On the bright side, Hash House a Go Go was better than expected for breakfast.

The photo was taken from 1 foot deep balcony looking hard to the right.

We moved to TI for the next 3 nights. We were supposed to have a suite but there was a mix up and they downgraded us to a regular room. After the way the trip started I was half expecting something else. The room was a freebie courtesy of our friend, v3gasjunkie so it was hard to be disappointed. The only negative about the room: We had a strip/pool room view which overall was awesome. However if you are a day sleeper (Noon-5pm) they play insanely loud hip-hop type music at the pool, which rattles the windows and light fixtures in the room making it nearly impossible to sleep. Boom Boom Pow!

The pool was quiet early in the mornings.

We finally met Friday morning at Aria around 11 am. He arrived on Thurs as well but he didn’t know they were hiding free hooch inside the cabinet in the Sky Suites Lounge. We walked in and there was a nice lady working that seemed a little shocked when he asked her to “fill em up please…..no, no all the way to the top.†Parts of the rest of the day are still foggy. I remember tipping the lady for the scotch and later taking a $25 chip off my friend when he dared me to down one of the mammoth glasses of scotch, sucker! I never said we acted like adults. We did however have a good time.

There is photo evidence I was at the Diamond Lounge at Caesar’s later that afternoon. I remember playing a little baccarat and then roulette where I picked 3 winners in a row for him to win a quick $4500. I am told that I smoked that Montecristo cigar in the photo, although I honestly don’t recall. The scotch in the photo is from Caesar’s not Aria so you can kind of see where my day was going.

By about 5 pm he made sure I made to the room. He was kind enough to call my wife to let her know where I was. She had been shopping all day while we were out drinking and being degenerates. I remember him needing change for a hundred dollar bill because he was counting $20’s out of my wallet like I was going to call security on him or something. Too funny! Lynne arrived and she napped while I slept it off. By about 9 pm we woke up and we grabbed some food. I don’t know how, but I didn’t feel all that bad.

I met up with another friend (Darko) after dinner for what was supposed to be more drinks and cigars. Oddly enough, I wasn’t really in the mood for drinking but we did some damage to a couple of nice sticks and he had some comped Macallan 18’s from the high limit salon. I knew we were going to have a great night we he showed me this photo. I posted this photo earlier and some of you may have misconstrued that it was me that hit the $20,000 RF. Ehhh, my apologies if I mislead anyone.

Early on that evening I won just under $1,000 while Darko won about double that amount. After we finished our cigars we played a little in Gilley’s new gambling pit. The girls aren’t super hot but BJ does pay 3/2. This session ended when I double my 10 for $100 against the dealer six. Of course I got junk and she turned over like a 9 card 21.

I went upstairs about 3 am and took a shower before going to bed. We had reservations at Tableau at Wynn the next morning for 8 am. I have been hearing that Tableau rivals Bouchon for breakfast and finally decided to check it out for myself. The restaurant is quite nice and located adjacent to the pool area which creates a perfect atmosphere. Our party of 5 ordered 2 orders of French toast, 2 omelets and 1 locks and bagel. The omelets were good, the Tableau potatoes were awesome, and the French toast was to die for. The locks and bagel looked good but I didn’t ask. 3 of us ended up splitting a chocolate chip soufflé for dessert. I think we were to full to really enjoy it as the portions are quite large.

The bill was $115 before tip which included a glass or two of juice. They serve made from scratch jams and marmalades which I smeared on my huge croissant. Wait, that didn’t sound right. They make awesome croissants there and I smeared the jams on the one I ordered.

I give the place 2 thumbs up and plan to return to order the French toast and a side of Tableau potatoes. My only complaint was our waiter seemed to be having an off day. Service was fine just not overly informative or friendly. V3gasjunkie thinks Bouchon is better, but he also drinks coconut rum and diet coke.

After breakfast we drove out to Valley of Fire which is just shy of an hour away from the strip. It was pretty hot so we didn’t wander to far from the car but I did manage to get a few photos. Door to door this was a 4 hour day trip. Next time I’ll allow another couple of hours for hiking because as you can see this is one beautiful piece of land.

The dark spots on the sandstone are called desert varnish. The drawings are approx 4000 years old.

After the trip we had lunch at Mesa Grill. I was pretty wiped out and didn’t take any photos of food. It was just sandwiches and fries anyway. Everything there is done with a Southwestern flare and done quite well. I thought it would be more expensive since Bobby Flay is a TV celebrity but it really wasn’t that bad. I bet we go back here next time. Service was in the B+/A- range.

After cleaning up we drove over to MGM to play baccarat in the Mansion and see our favorite bartender. We grabbed a seat at an empty baccarat table and proceeded to lose $500 over the next couple of hours. We decided to lick our wounds by grabbing a few items off their complimentary buffet for dinner. By the time we left the butlers, bartender and waitresses made sure Lynne’s purse was full of Desage Chocolate and MGM melt away chocolate mints. After dinner my score included a bottomless glass of Macallan 18 and a Davidoff cigar for later. Quite a bargain for the meager cost of $500. Bob had called in sick so I was drinking as he calls it, “bar scotchâ€.

Lynne had to drive back to TI where she went to bed. I was on a mission to get my $500 back plus the other $300 I was down for the trip to this point. I bounced back and forth between the Gilley’s pit and the high limit room with an occasional stop at the Breeze Bar. By about 4 am I had won back all but $100 of the lost funds. I made 3 or 4 more tries to win back the $100 but every time my bet lost. I finally gave up figuring $100 down after 3 nights in town was better than $500-$1000 down.

Sunday was Lynne’s big shopping day and I agreed to drive her around. I won’t bore you with the details other than to say she bought a new Coach laptop bag and I bought 3 bottles of scotch to add to my little collection back home. The best thing about shopping is it kept me out of the casino all day.

By 9 pm Lynne was getting ready for bed so I headed down to play a little. No matter what I tried I couldn’t get anything going. My average bet was probably $50 but ranged from $25-$200 a hand. It seemed like I lost all the big bets, doubles and splits. By the time I gave up I was down another $500.00. I hated quitting without getting my money back and apparently the start of this trip was just too much to overcome.

I was in bed by 1 am, slept 3.5 hours and was on the road home by 5 am. He called me as I was driving home to give me the low down on how his trip ended gambling wise.

V3gasjunkie was down around $40,000 for the trip and hour or two before leaving town. His play gets him about ½ of that back in under an hour. Then he loses a $20,000 spin on the roulette wheel. Needless to say that was a dagger so he goes to plan B. Plan B almost never works because the idea is based on a super parlay.

He starts out by betting just $1500 on red. It wins, so he presses to $3,000 and wins again. He presses the $6,000 still on red and wins again. What else is there to do but press to $12,000, and somehow it wins again. Like the true degenerate gambler he is he pushes (gulp) $24,000 on red and guess what, it wins. If I counted right he turned $1,500 into $48,000 in 5 spins. He played another spin or two and yes red hit one more time. After tipping the dealers he left town up just shy of $10,000.

I asked him to write a short review for you all on Guy Savoy which I copied and pasted from his email. We didn’t join them for the swanky meal, mainly because he didn’t invite me and I doubt they would have let me wear shorts in there, snobs!

Outstanding report, definitely thinking Tableau is a must do now. Loved V3's review of Savoy as well, for you though, you have to try out Bradley Ogden, if you want casual go for the lounge side, best burger I've ever had, and a fairly nice bar setup, I think you'll like it if you haven't been before.

Sorry for the losing trip, I'll try and get it back for you.

being involved in chicken farming, I think I would not be able to eat the baby chicken, had they showed it to me, alive and clucking, prior to cooking. I have a hard enough time with chicken now, as it is.

Thanks for the report! Parlaying any bet 4 times in a row is about as ballsy as it gets.

Nice TR! Tableau seems like a good breakfast spot. But those croissants are available at the buffet, aren't they?

Hey Five-0, I can't believe you joined just to comment. Welcome to the board.

Thanks for the kind words folks.

I have no idea what kind of croissants you can get at the Wynn buffet but the one I had was huge and to die for.

I think Wynn gets all baked goods on the property from a central bakery so pretty good chance the croissants are available at the buffet.

Thanks for the report Pnut, I'm down to a month and a half before i get to hang out with Scotish 18 year olds......

Loved the pictures of the Valley of Fire.

It's crazy how a little bump can cause $1200 worth of damage. Glad that it didn't ruin trip for you.

Hey Pnut - good to see one of your reports again. I haven't seen V3 since, jeez, 2006 I think. If you can reconnect me I'd just like to say hi.

    Thanks for another great report!

Jinx-I have read a few reviews on Bradly Ogden and it does sound like it would be worth a trip. Hopefully I can sneak away during one of your trips and we can go together.

wxrob-I know exactly what you mean about the chicken comment. My stomach reacted about like yours.

Claired67-I remember reading your TR from April. It seems like there was some sort of a hot fudge brownie Sunday dessert thingy you had that I showed my wife and you were struggling with your camera. It's good to see you here!

Alexanbo-I don't expect to be there again until Sept and that trip is a little iffy due to Lynne going back to school to get her masters degree. The las Vegas pnut express may be grounded for the next 18 months unless I want to go solo, which isn't really my favorite thing to do.

Sailor-I sent v3 an email relaying your message. He's been really busy with new business ventures and hasn't posted on these LV forums in a long time.

Pebbles-It was a shame to miss you and Tony. As mentioned above we are hoping to be out there mid to late Sept for our daughters 21st BD. I'll send you a message privately as the time draws near or feel free to let me know your fall dates. We may also sneak away in late Dec after school lets out.

Diva-We're already planning to take our daughter and her BF to Tableau for their made from scratch French toast. It was nothing short of amazing.

Several of you commented on the Coach bag. In case any of you Coach fans don't know, there is a Coach Outlet downtown. Retail on that bag was something like $375.00. She bought that and a $25 key chain for under $180.00 tax included. The discounts are crazy.

After drinking too much, that much breakfast would be a waste on me.

Thanks for the report. Nice gambling.
