    My Trip Report

I'm flying out of Milwaukee, WI at 7:35 AM tomorrow and I'm going to try to post live updates as much as possible from Vegas. I'm flying out non-stop via Southwest. I'll be in Vegas from tomorrow, May 14th, through Wednesday, May 19th. I'm heading to Vegas for a national pool tournament at the Riviera and that's where I'll be staying.

Alright, time for me to try and get a few hours sleep before the excitment begins!

$10,000. Just enough that if I win, I can stay in Vegas a few extra days! :-D

Sitting at the hotel right now waiting for the shuttle to the airport. Should be in Vegas 7 short hours. Woohoo!

Yeah, I noticed my typo after I posted it. I guess you can't edit posts on these boards though so it's just gonna have to stay that way. lol.

Sooooooooooooooooo, my live trip report didn't go as well as I expected. In all honesty, after I checked my e-mail at McCarran when we landed, I never even thought about the internet. lol.

I've been home for a week and have been pretty busy so that's why this report is so late. It's not going to be the most detailed because I'm sick right now and don't feel like doing a lot of typing, but I'll give you the highlights.

Day 1: Since there were only 3 of us traveling together this year we took a town car instead of a limo from the airport. The driver talked funny and told us about driving around the country band Alabama for a week and all the chew they spit in his crystal glasses. It was some exciting conversation for sure. lol.

We got to the Riviera at about 10:30, but they weren't allowing early check-in so we checked our bags and set out to find some of our friends from around the country that were there for the pool tournament. We met up with a couple of them and ate at Kady's in the Riv. I'm a big fan of Kady's, but I might be the only one. The food isn't the best, but it's good enough and the portions are pretty decent, especially the pancakes. After eating my fiancee went to scope out the slots at the Riv and I went to the pool tournament area to find more people I knew. Finally at 12:30 I got a text from my fiancee saying she was in line to check-in. I got to the front desk and didn't see her, and then I noticed the line going all the way outside with people waiting to check-in...she was towards the end of it. :grrr: After a wait of about 45 minutes we were finally checked in and had our bags back from the not so kind bell captain. We were in the Mediterranean North tower, room 821. The lady at the front desk said the room wasn't quite ready, but we could drop our bags off for now. The elevator to our tower and room is located in the middle of the Riv, right near the poker "room" and has easy access the the ABC Store near the front desk. It was really a great location for the elevator in my opinion. We get off the elevator on floor 8 and realize that our room is right off the elevator, which I loved! The elevator, by the way, was super fast and every time I got off it I was a little lightheaded. Free buzz! lol. So I open the door to the room and I don't see a bed...and then I walked into the room and realized it was actually pretty damn big. The bed was awesome. Euro pillow top with a down comforter and down pillows. I wish I could have brought it home. There was a nice mini-fridge, flat panel TV and an iPod alarm clock. The only downfalls to the room were the bathroom being a touch small and the safe costing like $3.50 a day. I'd much rather have the old school, none electronic safes that just cost $.50 when you close them since we only go in the safe once or twice a day usually.

So now that we've got our room, we're unpacked and we're showered, we decide to go gamble a little bit. We just play the penny slots mainly and I'll dabble in the VP and $.25 Wheel of Fortunes as well as a little 3-Card Poker and BJ if the mood hits me. Since it's our first day there and we've been up since 4:30 AM Central time, we decide not to venture too far from the Riv. So the Riv, Slots of Fun and Circus Circus are the 3 places we go to. Nothing too exciting happens and we lost like $500 between the two of us. I then get a text asking if I want to go with a buddy of mine to Pool Sharks, one of the local pool halls, where there has been some big action all week. Yep, I sure do! Now the buddy of mine is actually one of the top players in the country and he wants to try and get a little action. I too would like to gamble a little if I can find someone that actually plays worse than me (it's rare, but sometimes I'll find someone that's playing for the first time and I have a chance against, LOL). My fiancee decides to come with too. We get there and there are a few guys betting like $400 a game and another set betting $1000 a game. We grab a table and play for a bit but the only person that gets asked to play is my fiancee. I told her to play some cheap, like $20 a game, but she isn't in the mood. After about 2 hours we head back to the Riv and call it a night.

Day 2: The pool tournament starts today so other than eating breakfast at Kady's, nothing happens until after I won my first match. My match was over at 1 PM and I didn't play again until 11 PM. Since we had some available time my fiancee and I decide to head to the South strip for a little while. We decide we're going to make use of the Deuce this year and grab some passes from outside Slot of Fun. I had told my fiancee that I was reading a trip report on here and it mentioned Sex and the City slots at Harrahs so that just had to be our first stop of course. We get there and after looking around we find them. She sits down at one and I sit down at an Amazing Race machine pretty close to her. About 5 minutes later she comes over to tell me how big a disappointment the Sex and the City game was. I was enjoying the Amazing Race machine and made like $70 on it after hitting the progressive twice. After that we grab the Deuce and head to the Luxor. The Luxor was one of the only casinos we hadn't been in on previous visits so we made a point to going there this trip. Of course it wasn't very exciting, but my fiancee did win like $200 on a Wizard of Oz game. While we were there I got texts from 2 of my friends telling me my match time was changed to 8 PM. It was already 7 PM when I got the texts so we start rushing towards the door to grab a cab. About 1/2 way out of the building I get another texts saying "Just Kidding." My friends are dicks. LOL. The other thing we wanted to make a point of seeing this year was the Sirens of TI show. I had seen it before but my fiancee hadn't. When we went to see it last year it was too windy so it didn't happen. We saw the 8:30 PM show and then headed back to the Riv so I could get ready for my match. We were gonna grab the Deuce at the Wynn and then when we got there decided just to walk the rest of the way as it wasn't that far. However, due to the Beach Club being added to Encore, the sidewalk was closed and we decided to wait for the Deuce. 1/2 hour later, no sign of the Deuce. We then head backwards, cross the street, and finish the walk to the Riv. From the time we got to Encore, waiting around, and then walked to the Riv it was almost an hour total and we NEVER saw the Deuce go by. Very odd since they run so often. Anyways, I lost my match at 11 PM and we did a little gambling at the Riv and called it a night.

Day 3: Today is my fiancee's birthday. I have a match at 3 PM which I lose. Nothing happened before that besides a bunch of walking around, talking with friends, and smoking some cigarettes. lol. After the match we decided to do some gambling in the "local" area of the Riv and Circus Circus until another buddy of ours is done with his match at 9 PM. After his match we decide to go to Fremont Street to celebrate my fiancee's birthday. Another one of our buddies was thinking about going and then changed his mind. We grabbed the cab to get downtown and not 2 minutes after we get there our other buddy sends me a text saying he's on the bus on his way there. lol. We start off at the Golden Gate playing some random machines and a little BJ, 3 card poker and even craps. From there we go out and stand in awe of the spray paint artists. We saw them last year for the first time and whenever I think of them I realize that I have 0 talent. lol. I've had a few drinks at this time and decide that I want a spray paint picture. I'm expecting them to be over $100 for sure so when I asked and the guy said $39.95 I jumped on it! With the cardboard sleeve to carry it in and the tip I spent $50 and couldn't be more happy. We then walk around, and make our way into the Golden Nugget. Wow! We only walked through the casino area last year so I had no clue that it's actually a really, really nice place. The pool was awesome and still open at like 11 PM. My fiancee has decided that she wants to take a trip out and stay at the Nugget so she can do nothing but enjoy their pool for a few days. I'm actually thinking it might be neat to go from like Thursday to Sunday and just stay on Fremont Street. No strip at all. Anyone think that's a bad idea? Anyways, we do some more walking around and then head back to the Riv and call it a night.

Day 4: The only thing we had on the agenda for today was playing the 7 PM daily poker tournament at the Sahara. Since we had the rest of the day free we decided to head to the South strip and just do some walking around and a little gambling. We started at TI and then hit up everything between the Venetian and the Flamingo. We played a bunch of random games and didn't do any good. Actually, I take that back. At the Venetian I played a Goldfish progressive game. I got the "Race for the Gold" or whatever it's called and actually got 3 fish across the finish line after making some good picks and I won like $100. We then headed back to the Riv for a little while before heading to the Sahara for the tournament. The daily tournament at the Sahara always draws like 70 players, has an OK structure and pays like $1200 for 1st. So it's not great, but not terrible. Neither of us did any good and we were back at the Riv by about 9:30 PM. A buddy of mine sent me a text saying he was going to the pool room because a buddy of his was in some $2000 a game action. I decided to go with and my fiancee stayed "at home" at the Riv and played some slots and went to bed early. We got to the pool room at about 11 PM and got back to the Riv at 5 AM. Neither of us played while we were there, we just watched and hung out and had a few drinks. When we got back to the Riv I decided to play a game I had found earlier and liked. I don't remember the name of it, but it's got some small progressives and I hit it for like $80 the first time I played. This time I hit it for $140. Time for bed!

Day 5: This is out last full day in Vegas and I let the fiancee pick what we're going to do. I know she wanted to see the Tournament of Kings at Excalibur and do the CSI Experience at the MGM so I figured she was going to pick one of them. She picked the CSI Experience and I just couldn't wait to see how much it was going to suck. lol. We decided to stop at a 1/2 Price Tix booth quick to see if they had the CSI Experience listed, but they didn't. They did however have the Harrah's buffet, Flavors, for like $10 a person including their fee so we took advantage of that. It was really good to my surprise. I was a little upset though when I went up and saw a "Fried Plantains" sign but they didn't actually have any. After eating we started to walk towards the MGM. On the way we stopped at a few casinos and played a few games with no luck. We also stopped at the M&Ms store to get some of the new pretzel M&Ms we saw a sign for as we were walking past. They were pretty good. We got to the MGM and after a long walk around the place we finally found the CSI Experience. It didn't suck as much as I expected it too, but it wasn't that good either. Lucky for me it's the kind of thing you only need to do once in a lifetime. lol. After we were done there my fiancee started feeling a little sick (head cold type symptoms) so we cab it back to the Riv and she wants to take a nap. It's like 3 PM at this point so I just go downstairs with the intention of going to the pool tournament area and hanging out. On my way I decide to check out "my machine" that I hit the couple small progressives on and I hit it again for another $140. At that point I realized that I hadn't done any shopping yet and it was our last day there. By shopping I'm talking about for pool related items by the way. So I spend about an hour doing that and then head upstairs to check on the fiancee. She's still not feeling the best and wants to nap longer. I go back to the pool tournament area and waste about hour. She finally gets up and we decide to grab a bite to eat at Kady's and then play some games in the "area" again. At about midnight I decide that I want to play some poker. For some reason though I didn't actually sit down until like 2 AM. I just buy-in for $100 because I'm tired and just want to play. I lose it by 4 AM and head upstairs to try and get 2 hours of sleep before we have to wake up and pack and head to the airport. I fall asleep after getting my alarm set for 6 AM.

Day 6: 7:30 AM rolls around and we slept through both our alarms. Sh*t! We wanted to leave the Riv by 7:30! We rush to finish our packing and get checked out by 8:15. We grab a cab driving by an Asian cowboy (literally, he was Asian and wearing a cowboy hat and boots) and get to the airport by 8:25. Fastest trip to get there I've had! We get checked in at Southwest and through security by 9 AM. Our flight boards at 9:35 and we're on our way home.

OK, that was more detailed than I expected it to be. I hope it didn't suck. And if I realize later I forgot anything, I'll post it.

    Thanks for reading!
