    My Trip Report

I decided to take a spur of the moment Vegas trip. I booked my flight on Spirit Airlines. Leaving Wednesday night from FLL coming back Sunday night.

This would be my first solo trp to Vegas. Every time I go to Vegas I do not go to bed until 5-6AM. I decided the best idea to save money and have more gambling money would be to not get a hotel for Wednesday night and get a hotel for Thursday night at the Harrahs.

I arrived at Las Vegas and headed to the Mirage to play some blackjack. It was about 11PM. I got $100 in chips and played $25/hand for about 2 hours and moved up to $50/hand. When I started playing $50/hand I started to "wong it" (I believe that is the correct term) Which basically meant I would sit out until the count was in my favor then start playing. It got to the point where the dealer knew I was going to sit out. I started making some $75 and $100 bets. Around 6AM I was sitting down with $2000 in chips. I asked them to color up and they gave me 2 comp to the breakfast buffet.

I walked around a bit and just took in the sights and around 7AM I was dead tired. I headed to the Harrahs to check-in but they told me I could not check-in until 3PM (iirc). At that point is when I realized this was a bad idea. Especially being dead tired with a lot of money in my pockets.

I went back to the same blackjack table and started playing again $25/hand. After 3 more hours I decided to hit the breakfast buffet using my comp + line pass. After the buffet I headed back to the Harrahs and they told me the room was still not ready but if I wanted to have it now I could but the carpets was wet. Obviously I said yes.

The floor was very wet but I didn't care. About noon I went to bed and woke back up at 8PM. I went to the WYNN and decided to play $30/$60 Limit holdem. I was kind of nervous because I never played such a high limit game before. I think most of the table knew this. In the 3rd hand with a nice size pot I have A3 with a pair of 3's. I knew the guy was trying to bluff me I played it out and won a very large pot. Packed up my chips and left to play more blackjack.

In blackjack I did not do as good and lost about $500. Overall I am still winning. I head back to the Harrahs to go to bed around 4AM

Friday happened to be an expensive hotel night and I thought I would be fine without a room every other night. I got a late checkout and slept in. I explored Vegas and played more poker and blackjack. I lost $800 playing 20/40 Limit at the Mirage, $200 playing 1/2 NL at the Venetian, and won $200 at blackjack.

After being down so much and not having very much sleep I started to get very very tired. I decided to go with plan b.

Plan B was that I go to the pool to the Harrahs (I am no longer checked in but still have my room key) and go to sleep on a chair. It was just about sunrise and I covered my face with my hand and fell asleep. Less than 30 minutes later security comes to me and says I can't sleep here.

I tell them I'm not sleeping and flash my room key. They tell me the pool isn't opened yet and I can't sleep here. I tell them ok.

I go back to my favorite table and start playing more blackjack even though I am half asleep. I lose all my profits + my gambling money I brought for the trip.

I was upset and very tired. I go to the sports bookie at Mirage (which is completely empty) and pass out on the chair. Workers are vacuuming the floor and nobody is bothering me.

I did not yet book a room but was planning to go to the Harrahs or any other cheap strip hotel and get one around noon. But the fact that I lost all my money made plans change.

I couldn't fall asleep in the sports bookie because of the chair and people walking around me that worked there.

I opted for taking a cab to the airport and trying to find out if I could switch my plane ticket for today instead of tomorrow. (when I originally booked the plane tickets both days was the same price) Spirit Air would not let me change the flight. I refused to pay more money to leave Vegas early and realized that the airport was the best place to take a nap. I found a good corner and fell asleep.

I woke up and headed to the MGM to gamble. Since I spent all my gambling money already I had to go into my savings account. I pulled out $500 and played blackjack. (10/hand) This lasted me for a while and some poker at the MGM (3/6 IIRC) I lost the $500. I couldn't pull put anymore money because my daily limit was reached.

Decided to walk around the strip. At midnight I went back to the ATM and pulled out another $400. This was gone fairly quickly and I ended up going to the airport about 7 hours early for my flight back to Miami because I was broke.

In conclusion I slept in a pool chair, slept at the sports bookie, slept in the airport twice, made almost $5000 in profits but in the end lost $1900

I'm going to Vegas next month... but I got all my nights comp'd this time. Sleeping in the airport wasn't half bad. But I've done that a lot even in Hong Kong and Bangkok.

Probably be better to just buy a cheap night at circus circus or downtown Vegas instead. That didn't really cross my mind at all.

    Thanks for writing this up.

Sorry you lost back your dough in the end. Must have been a tough trip home.

You think maybe the fatigue from not having a room every night affected your play/judgement?

There is no way that you should have paid for a room with your play. You could have made so much $$$ if you were fresh. Grrr...you will spend $70 max for a decent strip room and make that back in 10 minutes the way you play black jack.

Wow, a losing trip report for a change. Thanks for writing it up :nworthy:

A couple years ago, the lady and I booked the Main Street Station for one night, and never used it. We stayed up for over 24 hours on the first day. That kinda messed me up for the remainder of the trip, because I never sleep for more than a few hours at a time when in town (go to bed at 3am, wake up at 7am, rinse repeat). Still, if I were THAT tired, I would have tried to get a $20 room at the golden gate, or something, and I'm a very very low roller in comparison. Sometimes, it really is hard to stop, once you're winning though.

yeah this is like deja vu, last summer at Bellagio I was awake the first 48 hrs of the trip, crashed and burned hard, shaking, etc waiting for girls to get ready to hit The Bank on the couch watching National Treasure, next thing I know its the next morning.

Seems like blackjack is your game and not poker, at least on this trip. The hard part of going without a hotel room is keeping yourself busy between 5 and 10am when everything slows down. I tried pulling an all-nighter in the Mirage sportsbook once too. Security came along periodically and were nice enough about it. Said I could sit there but I couldn't close my eyes! I remember the cleaning staff vacuuming around me at 5am.

When I'm at the top of my game I can count pretty good, do some shuffle tracking, etc. But I was really forced to play. It was either play or drink and I don't really drink. (and getting drunk in Vegas without a room and a lot of cash can't be good either)

If I had my room I would of went to bed and still had cash on me. (at least thats what I think would of happened when i reply the event in my head)

This is one of the crazier TR I've read !....?
    Thanks for posting.
Get a cheap room Downtown next time or
talk w/ a host after one of your "heavy" sessions.
    They should "hook you up".
    .
But I do love the "sleeping in the airport" routine !

You need a home property. You seem to like Harrah's, but you don't play there? You like to play at the Mirage, but you don't stay there? You need to pick a place to play and stay. Get to know the pit boss and flash your card everytime you play. You are playing at a high enough level and for enough hours that you should be getting full RFB.

The key to a solo trip is money management and you can't do that without a room to retreat to.
