In your opinion, what is the best casino/hotel downtown...

downtown on Fremont for slots, craps and drink service?

Last week I canceled my reservations at my home base casino on the strip but for some reason chose not to cancel my flight for a November trip just in case.... Now I am thinking that I want to take a giant leap out of my comfort zone and book somewhere on Fremont for a total new experience and Fremont sounds like a fun place to do it. Just don't know where.

My goal is to stay on Fremont so that I can wander in and out of the hotel/casino that I am staying at so that when I want a break from gambling, I can walk outside to see the carnival. All suggestions are greatly welcomed. Thank you for all input.

 

I always enjoy the MSS

 

hotels: Golden Nugget and the Downtown Grand have the nicest standard rooms. all of the others downtown are about equal. the Grand is one block off of Fremont, but don't let that deter you. the Cal, MSS, Fremont and 4Q have no resort fee, that is awesome. the Fremont has lousy drink service even when they are not too busy. craps: the D, GG, MSS, Cal, and Fremont are all popular for their craps game, most of them offer odds up to 10X or more. and here is the best part, convenience. if you don't like the craps game or the drink service where you are at, just pick up and leave. in 5 minutes or less you can color up, cash out and go next door or across the street.

 

I think the nicest rooms are the Rush Tower rooms at the GN. In my experience the worst drink service is at Four Queens. Plaza seems to have great drink service as well as Golden Gate and MSS.

From personal experience I would say The D. I have stopped there a couple of times and the rooms are very nice. The casino is good and I'm one of the few that probably likes the music they play in there. For just a casino I would say El Cortez, I always seemed to have a good run there. Nothing major but just nice and steady.

 

I have stayed at the D twice and loved up. Table games there are decent and drinks are easy to get and on the cheaper end. I really enjoy the rooms and scene. Room rates arent high and as long as you dont mind loud music i think you would like it. I am staying at the Fremont for the first time next month amd fear it wont live up to the D

 

For quick and easy access to FSE I like the Fremont. Can be from room to casino and FSE in minute or 2. D is good but too loud for us, went to show and couldn't wait to get out of casino. GG rooms are too small (not that Fremonts are big). We get our comps from MSS but takes longer to get to FSE. Of course GN is closest to strip property, but can get expensive and cheaper rooms (Carson ) are a ways from the street. ElCo also good choice for gambling, but again couple blocks away.

 

It depends a bit what is most important to you, the better room, the better location, the better casino (to play where you stay) or the lower price?

For better casino, good drink service, nice bar and low price (no resort fees!), I would vote MSS, but it is a bit away from Fremont. Although, even when you stay elsewhere Downtown, you would probably want to play here anyway imo, so you might as well stay there too. And it's not too far to FSE, just a block away.

For better hotel, casino and rooms and best location, I would vote Golden Nugget, but it's more expensive + resort fees.

If best location in combination with low price is most important to you, I would vote 4Queens or Fremont, as you have FSE at your doorstep, if you don't like the casino, you have many other options only steps away and no resort fees.

 

4Q has good dining options. especially if you are not too proud to use a coupon. the Chicago Brewing Co upstairs is like a hidden gem. small and cozy, reasonable prices, good pizza, good beer. I wish I had discovered it many trips ago.

 

Now you've got me thinking about pizza!

 

MSS offers 20x odds on craps. Both the Cal and Fremont offer only 2x odds on craps. I forget what the other hotels offer since their policy may have changed. I remember Horseshoe used to have something like 100x odds on craps but now that it is Binions I don't think they offer that anymore. El cortez also offers 10x (or maybe even 20x?) odds for craps.

If you want a "Strip" room experience downtown I would recommend staying at the GN. The DTG rooms have been renovated so could be a similar "strip" like experience. As others have said, if you aren't playing for comped rooms then it is easy to just stay anywhere and move casinos if you aren't lucky in one of them. So many to play at.

 

You said slots, craps, and drink service, not rooms. I am video poker, craps, and drink service, and not necessarily in that order. If you are leaving the Strip you are going to like Golden Nugget. I don't know slots, but craps and drink service is Golden Gate. If you like it louder, the D. Stay at Golden Nugget if you can afford the rooms, you can play anywhere because the longest walk downtown is fifteen minutes. If you really want to look at Fremont at night from your home property my list is GN, Four Queens, then the D. It's all available Downtown, just a question of priorities.

 

I would say the Nugget followed by MSS

 

The best part is The D is a short 3 minute walk (max) from The Fremont so all will be good either way.

 

The suites at the Golden Gate are spectacular.






Golden Nugget Rush Tower is also tough to beat......I think you will have a great time regardless of where you stay. Like others have mentioned....don't like something? You are literally seconds away from a different casino. I love that aspect. Golden Gate and The D have wonderful gaming rules and A++ atmosphere. (both can be on the loud side at night)

 

It would depend on what your home base on the strip is, whether you're the type of person that sometimes likes (completely safe) dive bars etc.. but the perfect recommendation for me if I was in your position would be El Cortez. It will definitely be a new experience. It still feels the most like old Vegas of anything downtown, experience it while you still can. The staff overall can be hit or miss, but mostly good. I'm glad I stayed there and glad I did it while the Western was still going strong.

Based on service slots vp etc I agree with Main Street Station/Cal. Great dealers Great bartenders Great games, decent brewery at MSS and some of the food at some of the restaurants is edible.

 

I stayed at the D and liked it a lot. Standard room is solid and a fun atmosphere. I play a lot at GG but the rooms looked really small. Anywhere on Fremont will get you to a neighboring casino faster than your can get out of your hotel on the strip.

 

Ok...as posted above, if the three main criteria are "slots, craps & drink service" - I would have to say go with MSS. On-site micro-brewery & good service at the tables, 777 for food, best VP downtown, 20x odds on craps, a gorgeous casino, overhead covered bridge connecting you to the Cal, and 1 (long) block away from Fremont St.

For room quality+location, the Nugget wins.

For low-limit blackjack play, 1950s-feel nostalgia & low-cost for non-comped rooms, El Cortez wins.

For shortest walk-time between your room door & the crap table, Fremont wins (with their $3 min craps).

For just drink service & eye-candy, you want Golden Gate.

For sports book, casino size & spaciousness, Plaza wins.

For a fun, party atmosphere, + coin-droppers & Sigma Derby, 'theD' wins.

 

Best hotel rooms, Golden Nugget, not the best for gambling, but you can easily walk to better Black Jack, Craps, Video Poker and slots. The Nugget has room service, spa, 2 pools, gym, several restaurants with happy hours, bands at the Rush Lounge.
