Well this was some good news! We've been planning a November trip to Vegas but were having trouble getting rooms during the dates we were going. We really wanted to stay at Suncoast but it appears my offers have dried up since we haven't played there since January. So we ended up booking a couple nights at Sam's Town and a couple nights at The Cal.

Yesterday, hubs got a 5 night offer from ST including $100 free play and a gold card for food. Interesting since he just went from Ruby to Sapphire on our last trip there. (The majority of our play at Boyd properties is at Suncoast where we use my card.) We spent a couple nights at ST though in both June and July where we both used our own card so hubs is sitting at just over 30,000 points now (25,000 needed to go from Ruby to Sapphire).

Pretty sweet offer getting the gold card! We're looking forward to trying out the new "Angry Butcher" at ST. We also changed our reservation to 4 nights ST and will just use the shuttle to go to Fremont Street during the day. We may take the WAX out to Suncoast one day and see if we can get back on their radar. Anyhow, it's a pretty nice 'come-on' offer from Sam's Town!

I just went to Sams for the first time last week. Took the free shuttle from the strip. Nice bus for a shuttle! I had always wanted to see the atrium there so that's why we went. I too am sapphire. Have been for a couple years now. I didn't get to play very long, only an hour or so but maybe enough for a teaser offer of some kind. We usually stay at the Orleans and really enjoy it there. They treat us well. We won't be going back again until April but may visit again.

    nice score!
I never could figure out why I never got one from them...except i think from playing craps, my rating was waaay low ($3 flat with $50 odds)

Nice going on the Gold Card. That is our favorite perk at MSS.

I would love to get offered a Gold Card. I play craps more than anything else so I probably will never get offered one. My BIL always scolds me and says "if you don't ask, you won't get".

He's right, I guess. I'm stupid. I'm the type that feels if I wasn't offered something, I probably didn't earn it.

Anyone know if the Silver Card still exists? I remember talking to a gentleman one day at the Market St. counter where a lot of solo travelers eat. He accompanied his Dad to Vegas and he was telling me his Dad had a Silver Card that he can use everywhere except the Redwood Grill and 2nd St. Grill at Fremont.

I play at 3 Boyd properties fairly regular and play at about the same level. At MSS I get a meal book, at Orleans I get 50-75 dollar food credit and at Sam's Town I get a gold card. With a gold card you can easily rack up around $200/day per person so it makes no sense to me.

Wow, I have never been offered a gold card and we have been sapphire for a couple of years! I will have to ask when we go in November. Is the gold card offered at all boyd properties? Even outside of Vegas? We play at Boyd properties a lot.

Ditto Never heard of a gold or silver card. So it's used for unlimited food for you and a companion as long as the resturant is casino owned? Man... that's insane. Been going to orleans for a while, pretty much just macys card events ($250). Wonder what you have to do to get on their radar?

The Silver still does exist, at least at downtown Boyd properties.

I'm not sure that it is exactly unlimited. This thread from Electroguy563 about his brother points things in that direction:

    Good read---^

In the middle of what i think should have happened. The host should have gave him some types of limits (prep talk) or some kind of guidance. It's like giving a teenager a mastercard black card with no stipulations.
So a gold card is "unlimited" just your play better fall within the ranges of your charges. At least his BIL got a huge coupon.

I also read that thread. It is a good read and probably a lesson to all of us.
So does this Silver and Gold card exist at Orleans? The more I hear about this, the more I am intrigued. I am still a little confused as how you qualify for one. Should I contact a host before we go or wait until we get there to ask about this?
Can someone give us a definitive explanation of the difference between the Silver and Gold card?

I can only address the gold card/silver card difference at sam's town.
the gold card is good for food and beverage at all restaurants/bars excluding the food court.
the silver card is good for food and beverage for all outlets/bars EXCEPT the steak house (formerly billy bob's..assume now the angry butcher). not sure of TGIF, the lone franchise restaurant at sam's which does honor the gold card. also excludes the food court.

we've been loyal to sam's town for a long time and would suggest you better be at the emerald level or pretty high up the sapphire food chain (175,000+points or so) before inquiring what it takes to get a gold card.

casino marketing is a whole different animal...gold card offers can and do show up every once in a while but it has been our experience there's no rhyme or reason., i.e. big surge in play, etc.

sam's town let go all its hosts almost three years ago; now has only one; which I assume was a cost saving message. we now deal with the GM for comp stays/gold card privileges. the gm sent us an email after our previous contact, the assistant gm, left late last year. before that, we had gone through a host or used marketing offers.

It's definitely a surprise for us to be offered a gold card with my husband's lowly sapphire status. Most of us know that Sam's Town is generous with comps but I'm pretty sure this is just a "come-on" offer based on his recent play. Like you said aquaman, most gold cards are given for high sapphire or emerald status. I'm glad we slipped through the cracks for this offer.

I can tell you hubs background for getting the card this time. I originally said that we had stayed at Sam's for a couple nights in both June and July but now realize I was wrong about that. We actually stayed at Sam's for 2 nights in June and hubs put about 14,000 points on his card. In July, we stayed at MSS for a couple nights and he put about 11,000 points on his card that trip. He had only about 5,000 points on his card before all that so he's now sitting at 30,000 points total.

So whether it was the one visit to ST with 14,000 points that triggered a random gold card offer or whether it was the combination of the 2 recent visits to Boyd's casinos totaling 25,000 points that triggered the offer is anyone's guess. He has since had another 5 night offer with a gold card for an upcoming slot tournament at Sam's.

It's especially nice to have the gold card this time because ST has 2 new restaurants that we haven't tried yet. I can't imagine us going crazy with the card but we do plan to eat a little better than we usually do. Instead of buying a pack of beef jerky when we get the munchies, we may just go for appies and a glass of wine. Might as well enjoy the perk while we have it as it may be awhile before it's offered again.

Aquaman and gambler, thanks for the explanations. I will save myself the embarrassment of asking a host if I qualify for this comp. I just have a question. Aquaman mentioned
What do you mean by "outlets"?

    Hey Now!
There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason at Sam's Club. Sweet Ti & I put 5k points on my card in Feb. in one day. My offers jumped to 5 nights, $50 food per day and $75 FP. So I stayed 3 nights in May and put $28k thru. Hit a $1 Royal progressive too. Made Emerald at Orleans the next day. Now my Sam's offers have gone to shit. 3 nights and $15 food. But I do get slot tourney offers.

Don't feel bad if you've never been offered a Gold Card. I made emerald a couple years ago and never got a gold or silver card. I've also made sapphire a couple years. My daily theo is very low though because 99% of my play is on full pay machines.

Howdy stranger aaisack, it's good to see you back on VMB!

    gambler,
Congrats on the Gold Card. We just came back from Vegas. I had the Gold Card at Sam's Town. It seems to have changed a bit since I saw you there in June/July. The Gold Card is good for $100 for an individual or $150 for two people. It's per day and from what I was told it is per day. If you spend less one day you cannot make it up the next.

We ate at Angry Butcher all three nights. We ate at the bar. Bartender Darrell is great, others are too. If you like shrimp the Rock Shrimp appetizer is great, tasty small fried shrimp and mild peppers. The sides such as Salad and Mac n Cheese are very large. You can easily split appetizer, a side or two, and one entree. Plus a drink or three, recon you might!

We were there for 3 nights, only once did we exceed the $150 allowance, it was by 65 cents and was charged to our room.

Please let us know about your trip.
    Ty
