Heading to Vegas in October. It's been nearly five years since last trip, and even though I don't want or need a cheapo shrimp cocktail like they used to serve at GG (tiny bland salad shrimp, etc) for 99 cents, the nostalgia will dictate that I search out a few. Memories of Westward Ho, et al.

Any suggestions for favorite cheap shrimp cocktail? (I'm guessing downtown is the only place to find one now.....)

We went to a place on Freemont that was horrible! I can not remember the name though. What is GG?

GG = Golden Gate. Back in the 90s, we used to stay downtown and hit all the door busters (.99 shrimp cocktail at GG, foot-long hot dog at Lady Luck, $1 margarita at the Ho, $1 hot dog and $1 beer at Barbary Coast) during the day and then do a nice dinner at Binion's steakhouse, Hugo's Cellar, etc.

Just wondering what bargains are down there still, especially when a lot of the happy hour specials I see on the thread here are $5 Bud Light drafts. (I always tell my family that if they see a picture of me drinking Bud Light, call the cops because I've been kidnapped or forced to drink it at gunpoint. Life is too short to drink crappy beer!)

Now that I'm retired and have some money to spend, I'm not obsessed with bargain-seeking but am interested which bargains can still be found.

The GG has been remodeled. They no longer have the 'cafeteria' style foodery in the back of the casino. They now have a Dupar's Restaurant towards the front of the casino. Dupar's serves the same style shrimp cocktail for $3.49. The shrimp are slightly larger and it is worth the price. Mind you, it's not a great deal, but it's worth the price.
The best deal on a shrimp cocktail, according to LVA (www.lasvegasadvisor.com), is the $1.49 shrimp cocktail served at the Skyline Casino on Boulder Hwy. This is the same shrimp cocktail that you remember from GG for $.99. I have had it and it is a great deal. A car is needed to get to the Skyline.

Haute Doggery at the linq has a 1$ shrimp cocktail. I had it and it was worth the buck.

Dupars is $3.99 - full "sundae" glass dish.
Just had one on Saturday - although not BIG shrimp (now that's funny) it was mighty tasty and WORTH every penny of $3.99, especially if you are already there!

Skyline on Boulder Highway has $1.49 shrimp cocktail at the main bar, and they have some full pay v.p. (or close) at the bar as well. It's not the classiest place in town, and not worth a taxi or uber trip, but if you have a car there are several places out that way to visit. It's actually better than the old .99 cocktail at the GG.

you can still get 99cent shrimp at the Chinese food restaurant in the Fremont. It's not bad don't let them put to much cocktail sauce on it.

I'm glad you liked it. I tried it a few years ago and thought it was terrible. Like most things, try it for yourself see where you fall on the spectrum.

I remember our first trip staying at the Golden Nugget we lived off the shrimp cocktails at GG while playing the coin pusher games.

We saw the sign and stopped in there to buy a couple. The guy looked at us like were were crazy and said we had to buy hot dogs too if we wanted the shrimp for a dollar. We declined and left. Took a closer look at the sign and, sure enough, in 9 point font with an asterisk, it says "with purchase of a hot dog."

Hot dogs and shrimp - sounds like an interesting combination. Wife and I ate Haute Doggery a few trips ago shortly after it opened at probably 11 pm (2 am our time), we thought it was great :drunk:. Went back last trip stone sober for dinner and were underwhelmed. :yuck: Never had the shrimp cocktail, seemed risky. :vomit:If I wander over there in November late at night this time I'll be sure to add some shrimp for .99.
