after seeing the thread about someone having someone else trying to open casino credit in their name, and seeing all the stuff about people and their players cards and talking about banks and CC's, got me thinking as the two of the last three times to CP, I had issues and had to deal with my credit union

first time, checking in at the 7* check in and the girl swipes my visa debit card for the room hold and it wont work, she swiped it about four times and said it keeps saying declined, my girl used her card but I know I have way, way more than $250 required for the hold.

I called my bank and they said something about the girl not typing something in right but, we got through it so it was good..

last trip june 2016, have a card a few months old, girl swiped it two times and said either my card is too old or i dont have the funds, told her about last time, so she manually types it in and it goes through.

shortly after my bank calls and ask if three back to back charges for $250 is correct...each time it told her declined, it was billing me anyway

anyone else have these issues...and this has only happened to me at CP

Using a debit card for stuff that involves a hold is just a royal pain in the .... hotels and car rental are two specific items.

Not sure why people do not just use a credit card instead. It becomes an invisible hold in most cases. In any event, they can not screw up your bank account. Life is just easier.

And, if you have to actually pay some of the bill, use a credit card that gives you points or miles or cash back.

I only use my debit card at the ATM to precisely avoid this kind of stuff.

its a visa debit card so it can be used as debit or credit, either way they have to enter it into the system by swiping or typing it in...just weird how they claim it was declined twice by swiping but still tried to hold the money

Every once in awhile, my "current" credit card does not swipe right. I just grab another one. Not worth the hassle. And I see no point in hassle.

I've been jacked around for hotel hold SO much on a Debit card...
I finally gave it up and got a dedicated "room hold" card with $300 balance
Seems like a CC works MUCH easier than a debit card.

that's exactly what we do. The card is only used for room holds or rental car holds.

Anything in Las Vegas can trigger a fraud warning.

A couple years ago I checked into a comped room at Mandalay Bay and had a fraud warning I had to deal with almost immediately.

Last year, I mis-typed my PIN on my debit card and was shut out until I could get back home.

I've learned to call my bank to warn them I was visiting Las Vegas.

I am confused. Why bother with a credit card with only a $300 limit? Why not have a few thousand just in case? It costs nothing? With only a $300 limit, it seems one could get "jacked around" when hitting the limit, even if only temporary.

Debit is debit is correct. When you use a debit card as "credit" it just means you aren't entering a pin, just a signature. It's not a good idea but in either case it's your bank account being used.

Some people that's all they can get, now why people like that are in vegas is another question.

I had that issue happen online when i was buying a cell phone. declined, declined ,declined.

finally went through. got an email a few minutes later asking if i bought 7 cell phones.

turns out only the actual one went through and the others dropped off but still quite a shock.

It sounds like a bad Implantation of the EMV (Europay-MasterCard-Visa) Software,
Their software is not completing a true 2 way peer to peer, transaction.

The bank & processor have placed a hold on the amount, but the terminal/computer software does not have a clean approval,
even though the money has been placed on hold, as a pending transaction.
Seeing it was CET (remember there bankrupt) it does not surprise me 1 bit, for failure on their Software.

Yet another reason to use a regular Credit Card while traveling.

    1+, on the same thing.
One of my old Credit card's Companies, Locked my card down, because I was at a Starbucks in Las Vegas.
(How dare you buy $12 at Starbucks, "The Horror" ) lol
Even though, my Flight to Las Vegas, was paid on that card(2 months Prior), along with the Hotel room Res.in Las Vegas-also on that card
And Icing on the cake were Frank Marino Show tickets also in Las Vegas for that evening,
(paid 1 month Prior) also on that card.
"Take that data, & apply your Fraud detection Heuristics to Logic,
they didn't have enough common sense to pour Piss out of a Boot."

Yet when they were called, to ask why I triggered a Fraud alert?
-did someone steal my card # Prey tell?
They didn't even believe it was me, after spending 10 mins on the phone
& forcing them to look up my card history & current Vegas trip, they canceled the "fraud alert".

The account was promptly paid & closed, because of the hassle while traveling.
(There out of Business now-so good riddance!)

My fiancee had a problem the other way around, she has a dual, debit/credit card and her debit acct didn't have much money on it but there was plenty of limit on her CC acct. At The Mirage they proceeded to swipe her card several times for a hold and it was always declined. I tried my best to tell her to use the credit side but either she was too incompetent to do it or their system is retarded.

I eventually left the deposit in cash to get it sorted but each of the swipes showed up as pending on her CC. They were eventually cleared by our bank after 21 days but my god what a retarded system. Where I live, everything is done by chip/PIN, I wonder if you'll ever introduce yourself to this century in the US?

Ohh, we have $11k on other cards....we just have that ONE for that SPECIFIC purpose (in case the computer "fucks up" or any other mishap, it only affects that one card, which only purpose is for hotel/rental car holds)
