Best cheapest hotel room..

Didnt know where to post this thread or even if I should start it. I love staying in nice hotels like the Aria and so forth if I am with someone, but for myself (solo) I really dont mind saving as much as I can and get the best cheapest room , as I have a car will be driving around to the strip and hot places, and just really need a place to crash ( and dont need to impress anyone; lol, Ive got a gf!!)
Is there a hotel you recommend on the strip, or off, or downtown, as long as it is respectably clean and not smelly and readily accessible to the strip via car...

I was going to book El Cortez, but the prices jumped from $30 a night to over $70, which, I really dont mind, but figure it wouldnt hurt if there was a better deal out there for the holiday weekend.

When are you going? You already know that weekdays are cheaper than weekends. Downtown and off-strip are cheaper than the strip. The order in which I book are:
1. comped rooms (non-host)
2. MLife/TR/BConnected, etc. member rates
3. third-party (Priceline, etc.)

 

I would check South Point, Gold Coast, the Orleans, Palace Station.

 

Ah, sorry! I am heading out there to book a room July 3rd through the 5th (possibly through the 6th depending on my work schedule how it looks).

I'm not too well-versed in Vegas, so I can't do 2. anytime soon, and have been going the 3. route most of the time.
I have heard the 1. option but can you explain this a bit more? I was thinking this means that I have to play to get a comp? I will not be gambling if any at all.

The trouble is 'Best' is such a subjective term. What's important to you may not be important to others. For instance, I need a really really good bed or I wake up after a few hours with a back ache and can't get back to sleep...but I don't really care if the room is sparsely furnished. Someone else might see a cathode ray tv instead of a flat screen and think it's a game stopper where another person might not care less about the tv. Yet others might want a really upscale bathroom with granite/marble counters and a marble shower vs. a tub shower. It's all so relative. What constitutes the 'best cheap room' to you?

 

Hi smerrian I would say the plainer the room , no tv, no nothing, no granite, no mini bar, nothing is fine. I want a bed I can sleep in that looks clean lol. No back issues at all. I dont need auto curtains or stuff like that. I have my guitar for entertainment so I practice but really I will only be in there to sleep a bit and then head right back out !

 

I hear Siegel Suites off Sahara is great.

 

Have you looked at Main Street Station, one block from Fremont Street Experience. IMO the rooms are spacious and clean. We haven't stayed at Aria though.

At MSS arriving July 3 and staying 4 nights would be $324 plus tax, no resort fee, you to pay extra for wifi.

I would recommend doing kayak searches to see which offers the cheapest prices.

An alternative would be to log onto the various web sites like B connected and see if they offer better rates.

I have stayed at some "dumpy" places, in March I stayed at the Downtowner motel that is behind the El Cortez. Prices were high because of March madness but they were one of the lower places so I tried the place out. Actually the rooms were renovated and the place was decent for a 1 to 2 star place, I would stay there again. Parking was free but you needed to get a pass from them to park in the lot.

For July 3 - 5, prices are expensive. even Downtowner was $60 a night. Other hotels show nightly rates in the $50 range but will be more like $70 with taxes and fees. The problem is that it is so last minute so prices will be high for the holiday. I just checked, MSS has rooms for the 3rd and 4th for $160 for the 2 nights. Sam's town has rooms for $115. MSS you have to add taxes for more like $175. Sam's town has a resort fees so may be closer to $145 for the 2 nights. Hard because many places are sold out on July 3.

 

Only clean matters? Then try Kayak and look at any casino/hotel that you recognize the name (like the El Cortez). They all have clean beds. The pig sties are hotels you've never heard of (like the Downtowner). Sorry, makikiboy. I couldn't resist. I still think a really clean hotel at a good price is the Silverton. People don't mention it much because it's on it's own at Rt. 15 and Blue Diamond...but if you have a car, like you said you did, it's easy on-easy off to get anywhere and the rooms are clean and the beds are really great. Still, go to Kayak and see the rates. Then go to the hotel's web site and see if you can do better. Remember to check with a host before check-out to have some of the bill taken off.

 

The Motel 8 (connected to the Ellis Island Casino) has rooms for $58...and they've just recently put money into them with a full remodel of the rooms. That's the deal I'd go for at this late date. AND, you get the Ellis Island Casino right next door. Great food at great prices at their 24/7 cafe and great gaming with low limits and good vp tables. AND they brew their own beers and root beer.

 

What? At check out go to hostess to get some bill taken off? Is this for this hotel only or in general? Explain please !

Yeah. That's exactly what that means. We are encouraged by one another on this forum to never play solely for comps. But, if you're going to play anything at all, join the slot club, or player's club and realize the benefits. There are teaser offers just for enrolling in many cases. These types of offers generally include 2-3 free nights (pay resort fees where applicable) mostly Sun-Thurs. This won't help you for this upcoming outing, but could for future trips.

When you gamble (WITH YOUR PLAYER'S CARD) you will be tracked on how much you bet. Remember, it is not how much you take out of your pocket, but how much you bet. You may put $20 in a slot machine and play for an hour. The machine (WITH YOUR PLAYER'S CARD IN IT) will keep track of every spin and credit that to your play. You may rack up $1,000 gambled through the machine on the $20 you took out of your pocket. The casino now can 'rate' you. Say the slot machine is set to return back to you 80% of the amount gambled; then the casino 'hold' on your $1,000 played is 20% or $200. A host may be able to give you credit for, oh, say, 30% of your theoretical hold...which in this case would be $60. The host can then credit your bill $60...IF YOU ASK. If you don't ask, you get nothing. If you ask and you don't qualify for anything all they do is say, "Sorry, your play wasn't high enough to credit anything." ALWAYS ASK IF YOU GAMBLE AT THE CASINO. That's the way it works. In Las Vegas, they take everything from your pockets unless you ask for something in return...and then the comps start to flow!

You might also look at FourQueens. When they were sending me offers, they were giving me $25/night BOGO offers. Couldn't hurt to call, and ask for a host. And, The D has always given me good deals as well.
