I had a professor in college who had the winning derby tickets going back to the 70's.
Of course, he bet on every horse and only kept the winning ticket, but still.... :wink2:

I was in Vegas in January with a buddy. His wife joined us for the weekend and does like the horse races.
She wanted to stop by a sportsbook to get a couple of bets down for the Kentucky Derby. At that time, the horses hadn't qualified yet so it was just a long list of prospects. The odds were high because of this so I thought I'd throw a bet down.
I bet $5 on Destin (based on a conference in the town of the same name I attend). It has qualified. The opening odds were 85-1.
I've never had any interest in this before, but I'll be watching.

All signs are pointing to a two horse race. Nyquist and Exaggerator. Nyquist as beat Exaggerator 3 times but Exaggerator just had a HUGE race at The Santa Anita Derby. I always like to try to be the favorite and I like a horse with a late run so I'm going with Exaggerator.

We will be in attendance again this year, one of my favorite yearly events. As to the field declaring it a two horse race in a field that size is dangerous.

Jealous!! The Derby along with The Masters are both on my bucket list. Is there a particular horse you like? Bafferts horse this year doesn't do anything to impress me. He's a solid horse and may hit the super but I don't see much more than that. I LOVE Mohaymen, beautiful horse, just don't think there is enough there. Suddenbreakingnews is also a horse I like a lot. Just some very amateur handicapping on my end. If the track goes sloppy exaggerator could win by 5.

I have a pro handicapper buddy that is leaning right now between Mo Tom and Mor Spirit.... I picked Nyquist as my Derby horse last fall.... I've picked the winner in 5 of the last 6 Derbys so I will have some input next week.

Mor Spirit is bafferts horse. He reminds me of a better Mr. Z. Always in the running but never enough to get it done.

there's some infighting in the baffert camp right now. seems BB called out garcia for the ride last week and garcia told him to shove it and walked.
it appears baffert is now putting down dave lopez as his main man, but this can change in a couple of days...

It's a great spectator event and tickers are quite reasonable . On this board with dozens of people betting black I'm shocked more aren't interested.

I love creator and mor spirit, great betting horses for this race. No real stand out horse so I will be clear of the favorites due to the field size.

I may end up at a local race track casino and watch the simulcast.

The KY Derby is a real puzzler this year. Don't be afraid to bet a longshot!

I will be in Vegas betting horses Fri & Sat. I'm staying downtown and not sure where I'll be betting. Any info on the downtown casino race books?

It seems a bit as if AP took some of the shine off the Derby. With the previous drought between TC winners, the Derby always had the "is this the year" thing going. Now that 2015 "was the year" it seems if a bit of the buzz that usually surrounds the derby has faded. Not for avid horse players obviously, but for John Q Public...

By far the best race set up is at the Plaza, but for sure go in Friday and see if they have any unreserved seats you can get for Saturday, cause it does fill up. Fremont and Nugget are your other real choices and they are both much smaller.
