TR Reno Harrah's upcoming --- NEED CURRENT RENO ADVICE!!

Headed to Reno soon for USBC Nationals (bowling).

Staying at Harrahs.

Need some current Reno info. It's been two years since I was last there.

FYI -- I enjoy BJ, Craps, live poker, and VP.

Especially since Reno has changed a lot since 1995... Flamingo Hilton became the Golden Phoenix which had closed, and the Siena opened, then closed, then opened again, then closed.

All kidding aside, I'm bowling over Memorial Day weekend and this will be my 10th trip to Reno. As always, the Cal Neva and Sands has the best gambling conditions downtown, the Circus Circus still gets a bad rap, and the best casino food is at the El Dorado.

It's been about as long for me as it's been for you, but I would suggest checking out Atlantis if you haven't been there. My last trip I ended up driving there from my downtown hotel every day. I liked their poker room and video poker offerings. It's also not a dump like a few of the downtown casinos. VPFREE shows that they have a pretty awesome selection of VP. I recently moved away from Reno but was there for the past 3 years. Grand Sierra is the best for comps. Their renovated tower rooms are very nice and they'll give you free monthly rooms for little play. Unfortunately their machines are quite tight. You'll likely be disappointed with Harrah's as it's pretty run down. The only nice downtown casino is Silver Legacy in my opinion. though El Dorado is ok as well. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from the Nugget and Circus Circus. My personal favorite is Peppermill (a 10 minute drive south of downtown) which has loose machines, a nice poker room and a unique atmosphere I enjoy. Certainly not one of your standard Indian slot machine warehouse type of casinos. Peppermill is also right next to Atlantis which is nice as well so it's worth the trek down there to check them out. Best for comps, would be Atlantis on a 4x(or 5x) point multiplier day.
Silver Legacy is best for table game comps.
Grand Sierra is terrible for comps..but they have a few "perks" (like easy free buffet coupons, etc)
If you're downtown (which I assume you will be), just stick to Silver Legacy.

 

Good info. One of my teammates is staying at GSR this year, so I'll have to check it out.

I realize Harrah's is a dump. I stayed there two years ago for this same tourney. Location can't be beat for the bowling aspect....and I have CET comps to burn, including rooms. So it's a nobrainer to make it where I lay my head.

Got the car for a couple reasons ....
1. I loved Atlantis last time I was there.
2. In and Out Burger is too far to walk too.
3. I want to check out GSR and Peppermilll to see what they are all about.
4. If things get slow and I have time, I'd like to see the Lake.

 

You're correct! Atlantis is great....was a huge fan of both live poker and VP there last time I was there. Buffet was also pretty good.

 

Seeing the lake is a great idea. It's gorgeous this time of year since it's warm enough to check out the beach but all the mountains are still snow capped. If you've got the comps, maybe you could even switch one night to Harrahs in South Lake Tahoe. I always liked gambling down there. Four good size casinos in a one block easy walking radius and you can always find $5 tables weekdays or $10 on weekends.
