The deal is official: Golden Nugget Rush Tower booked last night!

Wife and I have discussed staying downtown for years, and this opportunity to return to Vegas after 4.5 years came very quickly but we jumped all over it. She has training during the week so we are going the weekend prior to experience Downtown for the first time, then will move to NYNY on Sunday (we stayed at this hotel in 2009 and were pleased. Personally I would have tried something else on the South end of the Strip but I'm not complaining!)

Once the planning got into motion and I read some threads here re: smokiness, I knew we needed to seek out the 'newer' aspects of downtown. This brought us to DTG or the Rush Tower of GN. Her allergies are pretty tame, but even in Vegas the mixture of everything can sometimes wreak havoc on both our systems. I feel like these newer rooms will help with that though, and if the casino's are too bad we will move to a different one.

    I'm looking forward to:

    -Brewery at MSS
    -Mob Museum
    -Pinball museum
-Good times with my bride :drunk:
-Walking down Fremont for the first time
    -POOL TIME!!!
-Taking in a show or 2 (Wife suggested some burlesque ones last night, woo hoo! )
    -Experiencing everything about downtown
-Returning to Vegas in general (4th for me, 5th or 6th for her)
-But most of all: Roulette, Blackjack, and CRAPS!!!

I'm going to keep scouring these threads for ideas, suggestions, etc, but please feel free to throw out your thoughts and info!

Good deal......sounds like you'll be moving to NYNY the day I get to LV and stay downtown.......as I have for pretty much the past 7-8 years.

Seems like you're a table game player and I think you'll find the table minimums and odds downtown very much to your liking. A gambling session at the Golden Gate is a must-do, especially at night.

If you have a chance, enjoy a good meal at Triple George and/or Pizza Rock, which are right next to DTG.

Looking forward to hearing your impressions when you get back.

Love downtown! Hit dupars in the golden gate for. Breakfast....we do almost daily! Triple George is a good suggestion. Also check out The park on Freemont and container park, if you like BBQ big erns in container park is a must. The 3 meat combo is more than enough for two people unless you want left overs. I'd also suggest going on line and reserving some loungers at the nugget hideout pool. It's over 21 so no kids plus you can come and go as you wAnt and. Not lose your chairs. If you want to have a nice dinner one night I highly suggest Vic and Anthony's in the nugget. Last but not least.....join the landrys club. It's 25.00 which you receive back right away and it can be used at the nugget. Also with the membership you get a comp room upgrade!! Enjoy and make sure and let us know how you liked it.

Great choices. I do suggest at one point in the evening to leave the canopy and explore Fremont St east. UIt's full of unique bars, clubs, and the El Cortez. At the ElCo they have .25 roulette with a $1 min so you can play for a long time.

Woh, stop the press! I joined the Landry's club a few years ago here in Nashville at the Rainforest Cafe. You are correct -- it paid for itself right away, and then again on my birthday! Do they always do comp room upgrades for members? Is it best to call ahead now, or should I wait until I arrive and then ask?

Hail2Skins: Yes, primarily table players but I will surely visit a slot or 3 while I'm in town. I aim to play some dice at Golden Gate, MSS, and the Nugget, and will seek out the El Cortez for the historic aspect, not to mention the .25 roulette. That is right up my alley.

I would also suggest you go to the container park and enjoy the stores and restaurants around that area. I'm not too keen on the club situation around there (more for the younger crowd IMHO) but there are a number of new places that opened that might be worthwhile to visit. You can also visit the area by the DTG, they have some pizza shops and restaurants that are popular here.

Other things to note: Most downtown casinos (except GN) all offer $5 tables and Fremont offers $3 bj and crap tables 24/7. El Cortez also offers some $3 tables during certain times of the day.

Atlanta Rhythm Section will be playing at GN on 29 April, if ARS is your thing.

Fantastic stuff. I'm eating this up!

I love Blackjack but it don't love me. Still, I can handle $3 min. Maybe my wife will even play it with me ( I typically jinx her and vice versa)

I'll look more into the container park-- is it within walking distance of downtown?

Ty, I'm not familiar with ARS right off the bat but I'll check them on Spotify. May have heard them before.
By burlesque I meant Fantasy or X Burlesque, as these are the 2 my wife said I get to see as long as I take her to the Eric Chuch concert. Works for me haha

I already have my Landry's card in my wallet!

The container Park is one block east of the El Cortez. It is certainly walking distance, but a bit of a hike. However, be sure to make a stop at the El Cortez for the only $5 single deck 3;2 blackjack in Vegas. they also have $5 craps with 10X odds and cheap roulette. The Parlour bar has good cocktails with a happy hour from 3-6 every day. Also stop at Banger Brothers Brewing at Neonopolis on the way. REALLY good beer. You can sit outside and watch all the people weigh themselves at the Heart Attack Grill (free if over 350 lbs.) Take a ride on the zip line, it is a blast especially the long ride from near the D all the way to the Golden Gate.

I saw ARS last summer at the Hard Rock Rocksino (near Cleveland OH) and they were fantastic!!! I would go see them again in a heartbeat!!!!

The American Casino Guide and Las Vegas Advisor have some very good coupons for DT. Especially matchplays -- if you can take the time to go to the various casinos to play.

If you want to try some great but not super-cheap non-casino dining, check out Le Thai for a great lunch special, Eat for a killer breakfast, or Chow for some fun asian food with damn good fried chicken.

Le Thai on East Fremont does have really good Thai food. I eat there at least once every time I'm in town.

Hey that is very handy, fenway. We are downtown April 29 - May 1, when we move to NYNY for a few days

I scoped out some travel options from the strip to downtown, in case we love DT so much and want to head back during the week (well, mostly for me. Wife will be in training so Ill have the run of the strip during the day).
It's too bad the tram/monorail doesnt run from the strip to downtown...

Sounds like a great trip! Lots of good advice here. I hope you'll post an update after - we are doing our first DT stay a few weeks after you and would love to hear what you liked and thought.

have a great time!, too bad our dates don't cross...
hope you get a TR up in time for us to review...looking forward to hearing about your experiences DT.

they do need to stretch that monorail, or at least put in a dedicated bus lane, so the ACE and Duece don't need to sit in traffic during rush times.
