Cosmo or Caesars- way more to the story

We will be in Vegas May 15-19 comped at Caesars Palace. Here's my dilemma. January 10th of this year was our 40th anniversary and we planned on spending it in Vegas of course! We go to Vegas average of 3 times a year and always stay comped in Augustus Tower over looking the fountains. My husband is always commenting on Cosmo's balconies, so I thought I'd surprise him and book our anniversary night there so it would be something special not the usual and then just move over to our comped rooms at Caesars. On January 02 we took my 140 lb mastiff/rot to the vet because he was limping and found out he had bone cancer. Trying not to make this too long or depressing but options were to put him to sleep when the massive amounts of pain meds stopped working, wait till the bone in his leg snapped or amputate and do 5 rounds of chemo. After much agony we went with the latter. So his last chemo is April 30th and if all goes well we SO need some fun time and would still like to celebrate our 40th ah but a wee bit late. Finally to my dilemma-do you think The Cosmo balcony rooms are worth the 280.00 (after tax and resort fees) for the one night? Let's face it the rooms at Caesars are seriously nothing to sneeze at, its just that we've been staying there exclusively since 2000 and I thought something different might be exciting. I can't complain in the least of how I am treated at Caesars but I am looking to change as they basically have taken out every good machine they have ever had. I would play VP from 6am till after midnight every single day for anywhere from 5-8 days. Now I'm lucky if I find one that I even like let alone if it would even let me play for more then 5 mins. The other factor is I spent $4,500.00 on my dog and that seriously cut into my play money-so what do you think- pay the one night at Cosmo and the other three Caesars or all 4 nights free at Caesars? I'm so sorry to hear of your precious dog's troubles, believe me...I can relate. We too have been pretty much Caesars exclusive in the past few years mainly because of their generous comps but in your particular situation, I'd go for the Cosmo too.

 

Having made a similar decision with our daughters beloved German shepherd, I know how hard and stressful those decisions are - hopefully your dogs life will be much improved after the chemo.

I'd definitely choose a night at Cosmo for an anniversary celebration, since your husband already expressed interest in staying there, and you both deserve some much needed stress free time together - a romantic dinner, an anniversary toast to each other on your terrace as you enjoy the awesome view at night. Stretch the budget if at all possible - the experience and memories will be worth it.

Be sure to get a terrace fountain view!!!!!

 

There is another post on this forum from Kevin at the Cosmo offering to match other casinos comp offers. If you email him your offer from Caesars they will more than likely match it. That way you can probably spend more than one free night there.

Def email Kevin and the Cosmo staff your offers and they will match. Make sure to ask how much extra a balcony with the bellagio fountain view is.

 

Sorry to hear about your dog's struggles.

Cosmo has pretty fair VP if you know what to look for. Overall, I would say they are likely top 3 overall for the major Strip properties with regard to VP paytables. It all depends on the levels/games you play though on what's truly best for you. I've never stayed at either, but I would much rather stay at Cosmo first via my overall experience with the casino/pool/location. And I am a huge CET loyalist generally (stayed at Linq, Rio, Bally's, PHo, and Flamingo). In terms of "Identity points" they also treat VP better than CET too (0.1666% vs. 0.1%). Can't speak about the mailer room comps earned from VP though.

 

Pawsitive thoughts that your beloved dog is well. My oldest dog has had his share of health problems the last year and a half....thankfully we have pet insurance as we are over $10K in Vet bills and recovered 90%.

You and your husband deserve the Cosmopolitan experience. The terrace just puts Cosmo above the rest imo. Sit on your terrace with a cocktail, watch the fountain show, take in the sights and sounds of Vegas and enjoy!!

 

OP I would definitely contact Kevin Sweet at the Cosmo. I sent him a message and within hours he responded back matching my offer from the Delano. We got the dates we wanted comped in a 1 bedroom terrace suite with our F&B comps as well. Chances are you'll be able to get some comps there.

 

Thank you all so much for your well wishes for my dog as well as your opinions. Seems unanimous so Cosmo for for the first night it is! Kinda excited!! Not sure about contacting Kevin seeing as I will be spending the other three nights at Caesars I wouldn't want to short change anyone. Now if I stayed the whole time at Cosmo, different story. Like I said I really do want to find somewhere else to play but splitting between two casinos, especially a new one I'd be afraid I wasn't giving enough play to one or the other. I don't know if anyone else is like this but when I am at at new casino I get gun shy until I find "my machines".  Hmm....dilemmas

Well i guess I'm the only one that would say just to stay all nights at CP. Me personally I just hate moving hotels in the middle of a trip, especially if it is just 1 night. i like to get settled in and not have to check out and check in. To me, that kills a lot of Vegas time. But hey to each there own. With that said I think Cosmo's rooms are better than CP's though. But this can all be avoided if you get the match offer, and make the choice easy.

I just got home a couple hours ago from Vegas, and sort of have this same dilemma, or wish I did haha. I stayed at Caesars in a Laurel room in Augustus tower ( and paid for it, $200 a night). The room was nice but Caesars not so much. It was loud and cold and the staff was not impressive to downright rude. I couldn't win anything for the life of me on slots and got 1/2 a coffee comped for my efforts. The games are way too loud as well as the music and screaming people.

Because of this board I figured I would peek my head in the Cosmo and see what it's like as we toured the strip. Signed up for a card and they have a promotion where you get 500 points and get a buffet and $1000 points for 2. I got that in less than a day, easy. Never won anything big but I played for hours. Checked my email that night and had $95 freeplay from them so went back again the next day. Other than last night (Thursday) it was only casino loud (also if I played in the end of the casino towards the front desk it was much quieter), not freezing, the girls (who were actually dressed classy!) came around for drinks all the time. Absolutely everyone I talked to there was genuinely friendly and I felt wanted there. HUGE difference. The wicked spoon was so good we went back again last night for the buffet again and paid for it. I am not sure how the points work, I don't go to Vegas enough to understand or chase comps but in the 3 days I played I ended up with about 3400 points, almost enough to level up ( i should have got points for buffets but didn't, no clue how that actually works haha). I even expected the High Roller room to be snobby but I saw a my game there (rich girl lol) and wanted to play it. The girl in there ran around to help me find it again, it was pretty cute, I was embarrassed because i just wanted to throw a 20 in my game in vegas and she was determined to get it for me. Super cute.

So head to head, Caesars had me over Vegas and The Cosmo had me loving Vegas. We picked the wrong hotel. I can't say enough good things about how I was treated there and I am not even close to high roller.

 

Like others have said, I would definitely go to Cosmo. I just returned from a 3 night comped stay thanks to Kevin and his team, and I have nothing but positive things to say. I had some great luck in the casino, interacted with very nice and genuine staff, and had all my charges comped at the end of my trip. I enjoyed my stay so much that I am debating on changing my reservations from Aria to Cosmo for my trip next month. Regardless of where you stay, I hope you have a great trip!

 

Could always do what I did on my last trip and just booked one night at Cosmo and keep the other room too, that way you don't have to move all (if any) of your stuff. I strongly recommend Cosmo too, the room and the view is worth every single cent.

Thanks for all the comments everyone has given, I can't believe all the positive responses that Cosmopolitan has!! I will say, although I know it sounds silly, that I am almost afraid of changing!? Once established somewhere for so long I find it scary trying somewhere new, especially now that it is so much harder with vp paytables being so bad. I spent 20 years with MGM until 2000 before moving on and I remember I was a chicken then too. Guess it can't hurt anything to give it a try, I mean after all the raving reviews I'd be nuts not to!

First off sorry to hear about your dog luckily enough we've got good insurance for ours as he would've cost us over £7000 so far and he's only 3!
Defo stay at Cosmo, the views from the balcony and surrounding areas are stunning!

I hope you come up with a solution that let's you do the one night at Cosmo, it really is a beautiful property and their terrace fountain view rooms are incredible!

But mainly I am posting to send good thoughts for your doggie. I hope he will recover well and soon, and that you will figure out how to post a picture. I'd love to see him. We spent about $3K to have one of our dogs eyes removed when she got sick, so I really understand these kinds of choices!
