I just heard from somebody that the ongoing room renovations at Planet Hollywood are doing away with the movie memorabilia in the rooms. Isn't the memorabilia kind of the point of Planet Hollywood? Isn't the theme of the resort "Hollywood and the movies"? What are they replacing it with? Is it just going to be yet another generic Vegas resort with nothing to really distinguish it from anything else on the Strip?

I am personally a fan of the themes. Some think they are tacky but I think they also market to specific demographics that isn't directly tied to the themes, so there are other things going for them. And it all makes Vegas so unique- no other skyline like it.

I've stayed almost all of the 4 and 5 star properties on the strip and honestly, the Aria bored me because it was just a nice, modern hotel like I might stay in anywhere else.

Not everyone feels this way of course.

To be fair, Planet Hollywood was already de-themed from Aladdin. There's the memorabilia in the rooms, but otherwise Ive always found the place to be exceedingly generic.

As long as I never have to wake up and see this thing again:

I'm fully in support of dethemeing Planet Hollywood. :wink2:

Yes they're taking the old worn out memorabilia out of the rooms but on the plus side, the renovated rooms are really nice and really bright now.

As Frank Barone would say.... Holy Crap!

i don't think i'd be able to sleep with that in the room.....maybe with a towel over it.

maybe go back to a retro style casino, roaring 20's?

Yeah... This was the view from my PH bed a few weeks ago... Not going to miss the themed rooms. They are mostly worn out and half assed.

I've had Independence Day, which was cool. I've had he-man, which was cool. But then I had Wesley Snipes generic room. Meh

Okay, that may be worse than the creepy doll thing. Nothing like waking up, still drunk from last night, and see a headless ghost woman in the room with you. :haha: I'll pass.

Aw, you're no fun at all, Sonya! I would love to wake up in that room. I love movie memorabilia, though. I took my parents to the Planet Hollywood restaurant in New York City and they went bonkers. We spent tons of extra time posing for photos with all the costume. It was a blast! :)

    I echo that sentiment!

I once had a room with a big picture of the Crypt Keeper over the bathtub. Get up in the middle of the night to pee and see that face? No thank you! I love horror movies, but I really don't want scary looking things in my hotel room. The one I had last weekend had big bugs in the glass encased side table!

    I'm fun. :(

I just have a Vegas habit of pouring myself into bed in the wee hours of the morning, always with the drapes open so I can watch the lights. Then I wake up as the sun blasts through the window, usually still pretty drunk, and seeing scary things does not exactly start my day off on a good note. :haha: I've had other rooms at PH that didn't give me nightmares. I just don't need creepy dolls or headless ghost ladies sharing my room with me.

Don't recall having anything significant in the room other than Prince related stuff.
Most seem to be insignificant and don't really notice and I question the authenticity of everything being in the movies.
The wood sword in the last room looked like something a 3 year old made.

A trend that has been going on for a number of years and is showing no signs of slowing. I kind of liked the themed hotels.
