    My Trip Report

    Hey everyone!

For just over 20 years, my sis and I have been taking our mom and her best friend on an annual gambling & shopping trip to celebrate Mother’s day. We have always done this as a road trip across the border but this year we had to change things up! The Canadian dollar dropped quite a bit which we knew would be pretty hard on their fixed income bankroll, and we had some health issues arise that made the obtaining the needed health insurance a little questionable. So, we chose to do this years trip at River Rock Casino (Richmond, BC, Canada) - same itinerary- just local! I decided to do this as a live report as there was a lot of discussion/questions on the Canadian gaming conditions when the dollar dropped. I’m planning do this TMI style, but if you have any questions on specific gaming conditions etc- let me know and I will do my best to find out!

    The Plans-

My mom and her BFF have already been in Vancouver the last few days spending time with the family. Sis is arriving late Thursday, will get some time with the kiddo’s, then we will be off and running Friday morning once the kids are off to school. We are surprising our moms with booking a penthouse suite for us all to stay in this trip! Mr VC booked suites for my 40th and we later booked them a couple times for New Year’s stays. We always try and make this one trip a year extra special so I know they will really like it!

We will be spending the majority of time in the casino, but also plan to go to the new MacArthurGlen Shopping Outlet, do some shopping in Steveston Village, hit the buffet one night, Tramonto for dining the next night, and we got tickets for the Nylons Farewell tour as we knew our moms would enjoy it.

    The Gambling-

We’re starting the trip off with a $3000 BR for the two days, doing the envelope system for $1500 each day. Our plan is going to be to hit the high limit slots first and see if we can get some big hits to get things rolling. In Canada ALL wins are paid out tax free- so if ever we are going to hit that 5 figure pay- NOW will be the time we want it to happen! I was at River Rock last week and they seemed to have put in a ton of new machines, so otherwise we will be trying out the new stuff when not hunting Buffalo!

    Canadian $$ Bankroll~

The gambling strategy- I forgot to post it!!

Apparently as we get older, we are getting lazy and tend to camp out at one machine and way overstay our welcome! We do get some good hits but often sit and give it all back!

This trip we are going to buy in at a machine for 20 spins worth then cash the TITO out after the 20 spins. If it played well, then we can buy in again and do the same. If the TITO is less than 75% of the buy-in, then we will try another machine. We always play our freeplay this way and it tends to work out okay. Sindustry noted many of his biggest hand pays were in the first few spins so we will see if we can scout out some quick paying slots and get a little more variety in the games we are playing!

Good luck and have a good time. Native currency is always good.

Ooh.. I need to remember to follow this. :) I'm not a big fan of the WA State casinos. We go sometimes, but rarely. I've seen the River Rock advertised while in Vancouver, but haven't ever stopped to check it out. Hmm.. it's a lot closer to home than Vegas is, so I'll be interested to see all your TMI.

Hope to see lots of buffalo in your TR!

Thanks for the well wishes Sonya! Let me know if there's any specific details on anything of particular interest - games, certain table rules etc. It doesn't appear that there are too many reports on the Canadian side of the border with details so happy to search it out!

I'm a VP degenerate, so some info about availability of VP and whether or not the pay tables are any good would be great.

And info about the dining. The Dim Sum in Richmond is so great, so I'm curious about Sea Harbour if you go there and if they have any in the buffet.

And some room photos would be nice. They look great in the ads, but... :evillaugh Rooms always look great in the brochure.

    Have a wonderful trip!

Spent some time at Granville Island- a huge public market on the waterfront in Vancouver. I’d liken it to Pike’s Place in Seattle. Local artisans, funky restaurants, and tons of fresh food and fish! The weather has been fantastic this week~

We have arrived! Moms were absolutely blown away in surprise with the welcoming staff and the suite- it is stunning and very spacious!

We have a two bedroom penthouse that has a deck that overlooks the marina- will try and remember to get some night view shots! Both bedrooms have huge shower areas and one also has a huge soaker tub. We had these suites in the past for hosting small parties and there was plenty of room- I think these are about 1200 sq. ft!

    Heading to casino now!
