Election day the voters will decide whether to allow casinos in $$ rich North Jersey close to NYC. This would end the monopoly AC has and of course the pols promise 200 million would be given back to AC to make up for lost revenue. Casinos in neighboring states are lining up to lobby against of course.. Is this post political?

I watched a news spot on AC, they said eventually AC will become nothing but a "beach" town again, given all the competition of local casinos in the area. If this passes I can only assume this would speed up the demise of AC.

Crazy to think a casino with table games will only be a half hour away from NYC. I mean, I don't see how people would vote against this.

Many people in NJ are opposed to casino expansion for a number of reasons:

1.) It's fun having all the casinos in one town so you can casino hop like Vegas.
2.) Casinos do attract criminal elements and Jersey City -- the proposed site of one of the casinos -- is basically an upscale version of Camden or Detroit. Nobody wants to go there with huge wads of cash in their pocket, because it's like asking to be robbed.
3.) South Jersey's economy is pretty much dependent on Atlantic City. If they lose their monopoly in the state, then an entire region of New Jersey is going to become economically depressed.
4.) People don't want casinos closer to the more upscale areas of New Jersey because it will negatively impact property values.
5.) People are worried that casino expansion will lead to more gambling addiction problems, particularly among the poor who can't afford a vice like that.

Personally, I am voting against the measure, because I like going to Atlantic City. It's a nice resort town and I go there all the time to have fun, catch a show, get my gamble on, visit a spa, go swimming in the ocean, visit museums, party, etc. I don't want to spend a weekend hanging around the Meadowlands or Jersey City. Those places suck.

Not as it is. The discussion about legislation for casino development and gaming in general is on topic. It's when the comments start to devolve into talk about Big Brother/Big Government, this political party or that political party, etc that it extends into our "No Politics" rule.

Ac should use the beach to their advantage, but they are not. The casinos are shooting themselves in the foot.....

Have not been to AC all summer, went down last week. Ceasers parking is now $10 vs $5...Cover charge to get in dusk at 230 was $20...normally its free after 2am.

I read that the proposed Hard Rock Casino will be next to the private $250 million Liberty National Golf Club. There are more voters in North Jersey than South Jersey, plus there will be a lot of construction jobs from a $2 Billion project, I think it will pass, but I don't like it.

I get into dusk for free. They're pretty lax if you know how to talk to the right people at the door. The drinks are kinda pricey, but I walk upstairs to the bar over there slam a shot and chug a beer and go back into dusk. Saved me $5 minimum each time :)

That withstanding, you're point is 110% The beach is an asset and it would be wise to leverage that asset as they fend off Borgata. That said, Harrahs is CETS best performing casino and it's nowhere near a the beach. I guess people don't care for it much?

I wonder if anyone factored the toll revenue as well. If nobody is going to AC, the state loses money as well.

I was at the Trop on Saturday at their VP bar. It's a large bar with about 20 seats. There was one bartender working. We were there about 15 minutes and she left and another bartender took her place. Another 10 minutes later we left, still without anyone even acknowledging us, and went to the Golden Nugget where they have 3 bartenders working at their VP bar. While waiting and playing at the Trop, we won $200 when my wife hit 4aces on DDB. Sadly, no kicker. We canceled our dinner reservations at the Trop so the restaurant there lost out on our money. You won't see me crying if the Trop goes belly up. It's their own fault.

AC and south jersey economy is already depressed. The casinos leaving won't have much of an affect outside of a few restaurants and the outlet stores. Can Jersey City be any more dangerous than AC?

I live in Monmouth county about an hour north of AC. I like AC as said previously it is a destination resort. I can park the car and not have to worry about driving. I can drink and just cab it or jitney if I want to. Going to North is just going to be more headaches, traffic, etc. I will vote no.
I would rather the Hard Rock go to AC instead.

I believe there was a rumor/report that hard rock was going to purchase ballys a couple years back but it didn't happen.
