Traveling to DR in a few weeks for the first time. Should I leave my gaming money at home? I am a blackjack, craps and VP player. What are the table limits? Is VP dealt "vegas style" i.e. "fair"? Are the VP% decent? How are the blackjack rules?

Lastly what if any Casino is worth going to?

    Thanks in advance.

Things may have changed in the past ten years, but ... the dealers were amused (they actually laughed out loud) by our losses at blackjack at the Iberostar casino, we quit playing. I recall doubling on an 11, having the dealer turn up a blackjack and taking the original wager plus the doubled bet.

We took a cab to the nearby RIU another night -- the cab driver was actually an armed policeman. As we passed through the security gate at the RIU, the security personnel were carrying military-style rifles.

We never left the Iberostar after that.

Google "Dominican Republic casino scam" and read the complaints about a game in the casinos there. The reports aren't very recent but it is something to look out for.

Went to Iberostar over the New Years. Played maybe 45 minutes total for the week I was there. The casino is tinny and I play craps and they don't have that. I get bored with blackjack. Oh well came home $75 ahead and a couple of chips for the collection. I would say leave your gambling budget at home. We did do two excursions and never felt unsafe. Fishing and a catamaran/atv tour. Have a blast and drink a momajuana for me

My first big trip out of the country alone without my parents.

Caribbean Keno! Younger about 19 and stupid I fell for this scam. They give you chips to play the game, let you play without actual cash on you, then you get close to big wins, and keep going, but certain balls double jackpot and bet... well when you get close you seem to get more double balls than the ones you need. Turns out reading it the palm the balls (giggity) and never really show em to you in the beginning and make you think you are closer than you are.

Took me for about 3k or whatever. Split on my gf's (now wife) and my cards. When she went to hotel to get the cards I got hammered on rum and cokes and later that night at our resort I talked to the ducks for like 20 mins!

It is my fault for being so stupid, but a good lesson early I suppose about control in a casino cause I have never ever lost more than I brought with me since then.

Punta Cana now has a Hard Rock so that should have decent oversight and qualified staff. Haven't played there yet but it looks beautiful on line. Stayed at the Bravaro Princess..SP? and the casino was small. Really not a must do at that resort.

Not sure how far hard rock is from where we are staying. I think our resort has one of these small casinos. I will save for LV in May. Be a good test of self control
