So I did an interesting experiment. I emailed about 10 hosts at the exact same Vegas property, asking them to match a competitors offer I had received. I emailed each host the exact same email, worded exactly the same. I have some limited play and history at the chain I was requesting to match, and lots of play that could be verified from the chain I was presenting the offer from. About half of the hosts did not respond, here's what other hosts who responded did:

Host 1. (Whose title is Player Development Exec. Hahahaha) No match, nothing. All he did was give me the "based on play, end of trip" BS line. Way to develop a new player trying to come to your property!

Host 2. Would match the room comp, but not the freeplay

Host 3. Would give me only 2 nights comped, and see based on play if he could comp more.

Host 4. Would match room comp, but no freeplay match.

Host 5. Would match everything to the T on the competitors offer. Including the length of stay, and the exact number of freeplay offered.

Just gives you an interesting perspective to make sure you email lots of different hosts when you wanna switch properties to make sure you get the best deal possible. Every host is surely different, and I would guess the hosts higher up have more leeway because they have more Theo to move around in case a new player low plays you.

Anyway I thought it was very interesting...

Makes you wonder what the cause for the different responses is? Is it that not all hosts have the same authorization/seniority and aren't allowed to offer a full match? Is it that the junior guys are willing to take a flyer to build their client list? Is it that they get dinged if you no play them and some of the hosts aren't willing to risk that?

Obviously if one offered a full match it certainly can be done, but the reason he/she could/did and the reason the others couldn't/wouldn't would be interesting to know.

My question is: how many hosts does a property have/need? And how did you know the name of ten hosts?

If its like my workplace, when we have contact with a client we write notes in their file even if its something minor or they just ask a simple question.

Imagine its the same here, they pull up the name and see that the person is trying to work the system. Pretty easy to see once its all in one place. next time i would be willing to bet you get a unified response as they read through the notes.

How does one even go about acquiring a host? I feel like I need to up my game on this as I feel like I'm not getting the TLC as some others.

USUALLY that's how casinos work, in regards to the players club system...however, what the OP was doing, I don't think anything was recorded in his file, hence the different responses.

    BINGO!

I'm pretty sure the hosts with an established client list, who are more senior, are willing to take more shots on new players because if they low/no play them they can write it off on one of their other big whales. It's the junior, lower hosts who can't do as much because then they have some explaining to do when they give a player so much stuff and he low plays/no plays.

Thanks for sharing. Was the property V/P? Just curious, will you share the title of the host who gave you the matching offer?

You can call and ask to speak to the host on duty or maybe someone on the board can give you a hosts name at Ballys.
Or wait till your there and go to the hosts desk and speak to someone on duty

This is a timely post for me. We just found out my husband is to attend a conference in July as part of his new job. Mandalay Bay has very high rates due to the conference so my husband would not get approval to pay $300 plus for a room. I was wondering if it would be worth our while to contact a host to see if they could give us a $140/160 nightly rate. We are not high rollers, but each trip I have been bumping up our bankroll and play.

I usually earn twice the tier credits as my husband. I just missed out on earning Diamond at total rewards for our three trips. I am on track to earn it this year given the trips we already have scheduled. We have moved almost all our play to Total Rewards in the past few years but wouldn't mind spreading the play around a bit. Would it be worth me contacting a few of the Mandalay Bay hosts to see if they could offer anything or would they laugh at us.

I've already shared too much. I'm not sharing anymore information. This is a public service to let the community know you'll probably end up getting the best deal from the most senior of hosts, as was the case in my situation.

If I were you, I'd do one of three things...

    1. Take a trip to Vegas before the conference and play at some M properties in hopes of attaining the right status to be comped for "your next trip in July"

    2. Try and solicit an offer from Total Rewards, then use that as leverage with M to see if they're willing to match that offer with a room at Mandalay

    3. Book the room yourself for July and pay either the quoted rate or the casino rate if you can get it - then try to get your stay (or at least a night or two) comped off on the back end.

The latter, I think will be your best option. That way you'll have gotten the room secured before the rates will go up even higher (July is prime time, after all) and if your level of play ever was sufficient to get nights comped off, that's the perfect opportunity to have it done.

Guys, come on - be easy. The point of this thread is to demonstrate a phenomenon, not to call out "this host at this property that's really loose with comps".
