5 CET hotels start to charge $32 a day in resort fees

Starting today Caesars Palace, Paris , Cromwell , Planet Hollywood and NOBU will start to charge $ 32 a day
adding insult to injury + a 12 % tax on top of that , the other properties will stay at 29 a day.

 

When does it end?? Good grief!

 

Can this be made illegal somehow? I really don't care if the room rate goes from being $75 + $32 to $107 + $0... because it's the exact same thing! Really, how is it not considered to be deceit to advertise an ultra-low rate and then force the customer to have to pay an arbitrary "resort fee"?

Soon the resort fee will be what the room rate is now so they can advertise a room rate at what the resort fee is now. Instead of advertising, "Stay three nights, get the fourth night free," they will say, "Stay three nights for the price of four."

 

Well, I've long maintained my theory that any "BS charge" ("booking fee", "administrative fee", "resort fee", etc.) is just part of the business model, so that there's a pure-profit component to the price so that they are guaranteed to make money on any transaction.

So if you're paying for the room, between maintenance, utilities, mortgage, cost of employees, etc., they can sell the room at $40 per night at the lowest - then a $32 resort fee guarantees that they'll cover the cost with the $40, plus make an easy $32 for no reason.

In the situation of a comp, I guess that your theoretical gambling revenue is factored accordingly to cover the "cost"... but they'll still make $32 in pure profit off of you just for showing up.

That's just what I think, anyway. I've had resort fees completely waived twice because they're pretty easy to complain about. But it makes costing out a trip hell, because on a week-long trip, $32 per night becomes an extra $224 on top of everything else.

Correct. it is basically their "break even point" so even if you get a comped room but do not gamble, they do not worry too much.

 

I am waiting for them to say our rooms are 1 dollar. advertise them online as 1 dollar per night including weekends. then when you show up, oh hey its a 150 dollar resort fee each night.

 

I get my rooms comped at the D and never paid a resort fee.

 

If I like the D when I go later this month, I might just shift some of my play over to the D. What kind of play do you give them to get comped/no resort fee?

 

About 6- 8 hours of .25 vp per day. My husband would play about the same amount of time but on .25 slots and always got more comps than me.

 

It looks like the sky is the limit for raising resort fees. Las Vegas still seems very busy when I visit.

I imagine they will continue to raise the fee until the visitor count starts dropping substantially.

Come on people.........when the resort fee was first introduced, the big wigs explained that the customers demanded it. It isn't CET/Caesars fault. Caesars would rather have no resort fee, but by an overwhelming majority from the public, Caesars was forced to comply with customer demand that there would be an extra fee for things that used to be included in the room rates.

There is truth to this. People used to defend the MGM resort fees all the time on TripAdvisor, saying it was worth it to pay what was at the time a discounted rate for fitness center access and WiFi. So I see where CET is coming from when they said that people demanded the fees. What CET failed to appreciate was that those same people have fifty million other bigger reasons why they would never stay at a CET hotel. It helps them on their web searches but they pissed off their faithful without gaining any customers from MGM.

By the way, at $32, aren't we at the point where the fees as expensive or more expensive than what we would have paid ala carte for these amenities?

 

Caesar properties do not charge a resort fee on a comped room if you are diamond or above. Gold and Platnium you will pay the resort fee.
