watching people play

in general do people who are betting large than the average person get upset when people watch them play? I always consider playing in the main pit(s) fair game for lookie-loos/whale watchers. but sometimes people say they dont want people watching them play, when your betting big, do you like an audience or do you like to play in private?

 

I'm with you. If they're playing on the main floor, then a person watching from a distance and not interfering shouldn't bother them.

 

I don't mind someone "watching" but it seems like it never fails that I hear sighs or moans when I make a decision that doesn't work out or isn't what that person would supposedly had done. I have had a fair share of people wanting to hit the spin on WoF at higher levels which bugs me something awful. So my stance is if you remain quiet there is no issue, but that doesn't seem to be reality. If I had to make a choice, I would say that gambling shouldn't be a spectator sport with strangers.

 

yes, when playing roulette, someone says put a chip on #whatever for me, that # is coming...I say, yea buy in and bet it yourself...30 spins later, i told you it was coming and you didnt play it...could care less who watches me play, dont need advice how to play, i dont like playing by myself though, so when that happens and people are watching I always try to get someone else to sit and play

 

Agree with all, I don't mind someone watching me as long as they STFU. Blackjack especially. I am a bit more tolerant of people watching craps because I know there is a lot of curiosity about the game and I always want to encourage someone who is considering playing. However I don't have time to explain the whole game to someone AND try to play myself and keep track of my bets.

 

I agree. I don't mind someone watching when playing craps but it is difficult to explain when you have a lot of bets out and you're focusing on the game.

There was this nice young fellow who was watching next to me one time. The table was hot and crowded. I had a lot of bets out and he tried asking me some questions about the come bets that were confusing him. I sort of cut him off saying I'm concentrating right now I can't answer just yet.

Later when things calmed down I glanced over to where he was but he was gone. Really felt bad about it and hoped he didn't think I was a jerk. I didn't mean to be one but when I think about how I answered him I wouldn't blame him if he did.

 

I concur, watch but STFU.
I don't mind it the least at the Craps table as they are usually watching to learn the game as opposed to watching bets or a particular person.

 

I could careless if people watch.. Like someone else said, I just dont want sighs, moans and groans when a play does not work out for me..

 

I was in the high limit room. And like 2 other dealers were watching me play. I was so annoyed. They had to like turn around the whole time to watch me lose a couple grand and give me like "your a degen" look. Idk why. It just annoyed me.

 

I don't mind someone watching at a distance but agree about the ones who do so and think they should deal out advice. Then play the game or shut up. I don't mind if someone is watching and just making conversation about how it's going etc, as long as the aren't wanting something from me and not giving advice.

 

I do not mind it up to a certain extent. If you are looking over my shoulder for more than 15 minutes, it starts to get annoying. If I have to get up and go to the bathroom and one of these people are around, I will always as for my chips to be covered.

 

At the MGM once I was watching someone playing craps. Pit crew told me to step back and away since it was a "private table". Guy was playing with $500 and $1000 chips. Guess he asked for a private table. From far away I couldn't see his rolls so I just left, wasn't worth watching since I'm more of a player than a watcher.

For me I'm not as tolerant of people watching craps, esp when they start to (try to) explain everything. Hate it when these "experts" start to give their expert opinion, esp on how I should be playing the game, I usually tell them that if they know how to play they should buy in and show us or STFU. Also hate it when some of these people just take up space on the table but don't play. Doesn't bother me if it were the SO or friend of someone who is playing but lately I see more who don't play just take up space on the table. Once I asked one of them if they could move so I could play, his response was that he wanted to watch. I looked at the pit crew and they asked him to step back if he wasn't going to play. His response was that he was thinking about playing but after a few minutes we knew he was just there to watch or possibly wait for a hot table.

Yeah, as long as they STFU I don't have a problem but many of them will discuss play and how people should play the game. I hate it when a non player tries to give me advice on how to play, I will just give him the "evil eye" and ignore him but if he continues to give advice I will color up and move or I will look at the pit boss for help in getting rid of the guy.

If I was in the private room and some people (even dealers) started watching me play (making me uncomfortable) I would probably ask my dealer or pit boss if I could get some privacy since I feel uncomfortable having people watch me play. If they still hang around I would go elsewhere, unless you are winning no sense sticking around if you don't enjoy playing there.

 

I was pushed away from a table at the MGM once when it was a $500 table (craps) limit, guess the guy thought it was reserved. So I went up and bought in with a big marker, guy playing wasn't happy. There were only 2 tables and one was packed, or I wouldn't have bothered. I came back a few hours later and the same guy was playing but the table was reserved. Never can figure out why they just don't open the table in the Mansion for these guys. Seems they always reserve a table on the main floor.

I don't mind when people watch. Just this past trip I seem to have gathered a crowd, they tend to cheer for you pretty good. As long as they are not interrupting the game it can be fun.

 

On our first or second trip to Vegas we were walking through Caesars and I wanted to watch some craps in action because I was still super new to the game. As we are walking through the casino a dude is buying in at a table with no one else but himself there. His buy in was pretty heavy as I recall being mesmerized by all the $100s the dealers were counting out.

We were standing back on the tile of the walkway and they told us to beat it as we weren't welcome to watch.

Left a pretty sour taste in my mouth as we weren't well versed in gambling etiquette and even more so when the guy buying in made some snarky comment about never seeing money before. So I hope that prick lost it all and never hits a point the rest of his life.

I don't care if people watch. Especially in craps. What I don't like is people leaning over me at blackjack nor do I like (when at locals mainly) someone who has no money sit down next to me and try to mooch.

Another time I was at Mirage and some dude was playing $25k chips and had his own table with security around it. He looked miserable and had two full chip rails full of $25k chips. Amazing.

 

I love it when people watch me play craps. I hate when they ask me how to play.

 

i used to watch people play all the time (from a distance, and never said a word) then once i was watching people play on a bank of 1 dollar Wheel of Fortune machines. This one lady
turned around and screamed at the 3 of us watching to get the 'F' away from her. I laughed it off (as i left) but now, i really try to be stealthy when i watch.

 

Watchers are welcome. Gawkers are not!

 

My friends and I call them "Gazoo" named after the annoying character from The Flinstones tv show, that always was hanging over someones shoulder, telling them what to do.

 

I think it makes some people feel like a big shot when they have a reserved table on the main floor. Pure ego stroke...
