Obtaining A Host

So in my few short weeks of visiting this forum I've noticed people referencing that they have a go to host at their favorite property. One that they seem to be able to reach out to and book rooms, etc.

Now, I must say I'm no high-roller but I also am not a casual gambler either. I'm approaching gold status at Mlife after the October reset so that might give an indication on how much/little I gamble. Any issue I've had at my local casino or in Vegas has been taken care of by somebody at the casino but I don't have a "go to" person at any property.

When I do book Vegas trips it's through the Mlife web-site's offers although one that I did book was a call placed to the Luxor which resulted in an offer better then what was listed on the web-site.

In short, would it benefit me to ask for or seek out a host? Do they reach out to you during one of your stays or is it something you have to proactively do?

Are hosts generally used for high-rollers? High gold? Platinum? Noir or do hosts make time for all players?

Just kicking the tires on if it would be a benefit to have a host for Mlife properties.

Not to burst your bubble but "approaching" gold after 4 months is pretty firmly in the low roller category.

At your level there's going to be very little a host can do for you outside of offers.

But it's certainly worth going into the host office after a trip to see if there's any extra comps that can be applied.

 

You don't have to be a High Roller to utilize a host. But what are you looking for that you can't get by calling the vip services? Hosts can typically comp things that vip couldn't like getting a limo or they can comp a room without a marketing offer. All of this is based on the level of action.

When you've booked at Luxor, what type of room do they put you on? A host might be able to place you in a slightly higher room if action warrants.

 

IMO, tier level shouldn't matter because I thought Mlife uses that to track your slot play and dollars spent in general at any MGM resorts. That being said, I'm only a Pearl tier and my host at Bellagio always puts me in a Suite. I let my host know my flight itinerary and the nights I will be in town. She sends me an email and they are the best MLife deals plus her upgrades. Plus, I don't have to wait in long lines for check in or out. Having a host isn't just for high rollers. Its for players who want to have things taken care of.

 

Since you asked about Luxor, Let me tell you that I didn't have one before I stayed there. Before I decided to stay there one trip, I emailed a host and gave her my MLife # and asked what she could do for me. She EMd me back and said I had room reserved and to go check in at the MLife desk where the host were. It is nice to have a host or a go to person for things other than rooms. My hosts even at other casinos can get me Show and concert tickets. Each host at different casinos will comp differently depending on your play. A comped suite a Luxor might only translate to a comped room at Bellagio for example.

One last thing about having a host is that, I sent my wife and her GFs to Vegas for her 40th. She doesn't gamble. My host put up 8 girls in two suites for 7 total nights, all comped. That couldn't have happened without a host. Of course, I played there a month later when I went to thank her for her great work on making my wife have a wonderful BDay trip.

 

Oh no offense taken Shifter that's why I mentioned I'm not a high-roller but also not a low one either. Somewhere in the middle I'd say, but that's my opinion and the casino and others might view it as being a low roller haha.

BayouBengal - it was a suite in a tower room at the Luxor with a free play offer of $100 and no resort fee.

Autoxer - That's sort of what I was looking for in terms of information. I just wonder if there would be a benefit to reaching out to a host before I book a trip through the VIP services or use the online deal.

MGM did reach out to me during my last trip and offered to extend my trip an extra day if I were interested to which I declined and said they would keep it on file for a year. They also did waive my resort fee and other charges that I had sent to the room as well. I guess losing $2k in a day will do that for you.

I do receive 2 free nights in a suite at my local casino per month and a decent freeplay offer.

I think during my June or July trip I'll reach out to a host first at a property and see if there is anything above what's listed on the Mlife website.

A host does so much more than the VIP service. I recommend you using a host and to build that relationship.

I've always told friends to go to Mlife desk and ask to get rated if you think you are a reasonable contender. They can look at your play and say yes or no,our but can also give you a player development person...who is kinda like a host, but not one that comes down and secretly accepts tips and takes you for dinner, or breakfast, or accompany you to The Billboard awards, or get you fight tickets, or invite you to concerts, and look after all your suites if you bring down 8 or 9 of your son's and friends etc. You haven't mentioned if you are a slot or table player. But at least you'd have a player development person to call. I've never booked through the Mlife site, always gone through my hosts. I don't even think about resort fees, or food/bev costs..I do check with my host though to say I put a facial, or a mani or pedi on my room and to please look after it...she never uses my express comps, just her own ability to comp. I use my express comps when I knowingly go overboard, like fight tickets, or 4 suites, or dinner/drinks for 8...(remember RumJungle?)...I'm not a monster player but made Platinum in one weekend in November after the cull. And I don't want to talk about last weekend in Vegas. Ever again, thanks...I might cancel my Bellagio slotty in 33 days,,,,US dolla killing me. Along with my stupid play.

 

Just curious, what's your average theo/stats? Or if you don't know that, what's your typical daily play like? I'm low diamond with CET, never gave MGM much play as I figured I wouldn't get much from them, at least not at their nicer props.

But based on what I've read about Mlife, I know that I could easily make pearl in one weekend. If the amount of gambling that results in pearl gets you a suite at the B, maybe I'm selling my MGM prospects short...

 

@X2... I play 3 card and crazy 4 around $75 per hand. I just track my time at the table and its usually around 6 hrs per day. I don't play craps, roulette or Blackjack. I play higher slots and not anything under 25 cents at always max bet. table vs slot time is about 80/20. I'm not a true gambler that knows too much about theo or stats. I go and play and plan to lose what I bring, sometimes take home winnings. most of time, I almost break even which is as good as I can expect sometimes. I also have brought my host other players who are big players.

 

When I was first assigned a host he found me. I got an email from him after a trip telling me that I had been assigned to him. If you have a history of playing at a place and they have not assigned you to someone then I don't know if they would if you ask for one.

 

3 card poker has a house edge of 3.7%, so at $75/hand and 30 hands per hour (im guessing) then you are looking at $80-$90 theo/hour, if you play 6 hours per day your looking at about $500 theo/day, that is more than enough to a suite, I'm surprised your only pearl

 

If that's the case, you should have reached Platinum in one trip, not Pearl.

 

At one point I was Platinum because I went went to Vegas 4 times in one year. My usual trips are twice a year and for only two nights now. My status changed when they implemented this newer system of tiers. I don't see too much in complaining as I get what I ask for and them some.
Jejas... I still don't really quite understand the tier status. I know you get pts for $s spent, but I believe you don't get them applied to tier credits if they are comped at the end. If anyone knows the ins and outs of this that would be great. Maybe my host likes me because I don't over reach

 

I've been Gold at mLife for last 4 years
(mostly through spend, because I stay at vdara, but play at Cosmo.. aria is rarely lucky for me)
but you'd be surprised at what a host can do v. VIP services on a low roller (2-3K, weekend, 8-10 times/yr)

if you're 80% table play?, always get your avg bet/hd and Theo
(theoretical loss according to their computer algorithms) before you leave each table session

you're correct "spend" is only what came out of your wallet, not total with comps
e.g. you had $4K in charges and $3K was comped?...only $1K gets credited towards Tier points

 

8-10 times a year of course you want a host at most any budget.

Most people come 1-2 times a year.

 

Would like to ask if my play would warrant a host. I go to the Borgata approx 4 to 5 times per year for 2 days and my game of choice is craps I play $25.00 on the line with 2x odds. Place the 6 & 8 for $30.00 with press every other hit ( last time for one paticularly hot shooter I had 6 & 8 up to $480.00 and used them also as feeder bets to cover all other numbers an aberration but gives you a idea of how I play) also play all the hards for $5.00 then parlay first hit and the go up in $50.00 increments after second and third hit) play on average 6 to 8 hours per day. My wife goes to the spa for a massage and a general day of pampering. We also have one fine dining meal per stay. I realize that I am a low roller but given this information should I inquire about getting a host to see if I can get some back end comps and the occasional upgrade to the fiore suite. We get free rooms Sunday thru Thursday with the occasional Friday comped as well. Thank you for you opinions and input

 

IMO, its good to have a host. Host are for all levels and they build their business in having many different types of clientele.
