If not the Orleans in April....

I stay at the Orleans often during my trips... love it there. I often stay there because even as a low roller I spend money at their restaurants and pool and get a couple of free weeknight rooms. My girlfriend has to, and she spends less than me on gambling. We went in May and September last year and stayed multiple nights, paying for a night to cover our entire trip without relocating.

As happened a few years ago, my staying and playing seemed to penalize me. I've had no mailings since September and my online account isn't offering me free room nights, either.

I'm looking at taking advantage of these cheap airfares for a trip in April or May, and the room rates they're offering me aren't bad for five nights, including a Saturday, and I'd like to stay at the Orleans because it's pool area is nice, without being gimmicky. Seems unlikely that I'm going to find an off-strip location that's better for comparable money. I might be able to get a decent offer from Downtown Grand since we stayed there a couple of nights during our May trip... but darn it, if the usual Orleans offers were in play, I'd already be booked for a trip this spring. (Originally a spring trip wasn't in the budget, or a consideration, but that doesn't seem to be holding true.)

So why doesn't the Orleans love me any more? And given that being on the strip or downtown isn't important, should I be looking at places I've never considered, such as the M. (Seems way more expensive than the Orleans.) Access to a pool better than the D is mandatory.

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Good luck to all of you on the East Coast this weekend.

I can't help you on the offers. I don't know why I get what I get but in this era, I am glad I get something. If you are willing to stay as far out as M, maybe the Silverton is one you should consider. The rooms aren't as trendy as the Premium rooms at Orleans and they even still have tube tvs but I was really comfortable there. I always have a good time playing there and making a point to go there at least once every trip triggered free weeknight rooms for me. The pool isn't all that large but it's attractive. And they have this restaurant - WuHu Noodle - that I couldn't get enough of!

have you checked your boyd account online? Sometimes offers are there you don't get sent mail or email. Also, if considering DTG, why not Boyds downtown? No resort fee and easy to get future comps.

If you want to stay with Boyd, then you should look into Suncoast. Nice, big rooms, free wifi and a very nice pool area. A free airport shuttle once an hour, but if you miss it, the WAX drops you off in the Suncoast parking lot. Plenty of restaurant options.

I always play craps at the Orleans, i love playing there. I had not stayed there but got an offer last summer for a very good rate and stayed there for the first time last September. Played quite a bit. And haven't received anything from them since. Weird.

    Very weird.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I'll find some time to do some research late tonight.

Don't know why they no longer love you. One thing is, on your Boyd home page, you need to set The Orleans as your home casino to enjoy offers from them. This helps to get better mail or online offers for a certain Boyd property.

I myself only stay at The Orleans once a year and do minimal play there. Dropping $200/day on VP, some slots, and non-rated Black Jack (don't use players card for BJ, ever). I still get mid-week offers of 2 or 3 comped nights each month with some free play or food credits steadily from them for the past 3 years.

Last Spring I paid for 2 nights at MSS downtown and dropped a lot of dough in that tight place. Still have yet to even receive a postcard from them. lol

Boyd knows online that I'm a fan of Orleans, it always defaults to that when I log in. I'm just not worth inviting back this spring, evidently.

A week I looked at in April at Suncoast was not cheap, even the weeknights, and it's not a major convention week.

I tried looking at package deals via Expedia, but all the stranded east coast travelers are overloading the website tonight.

Since airlines offer vacation packages online, and we can all book our own deals online, travel agents have pretty much starved to death. I remember charter packages and "Funjet" vacations being a big deal 20 years ago. I never hear anybody talk about those types of deals these days. Are those independent charter companies pretty much out of business?

Funjet and the like exist but the charter flights they did to Vegas are gone. Most of those smaller airlines they worked with are closed or absorbed into bigger airlines. Now the vacation companies will book you on a major airline flight. It would be nice if there was more competition on airfares.

I'd say if you like The Orleans, just book at the promo rate via BConnected, then based off your play they'll comp a good amount of it when you check out.

Agreed. Check your B connected. If that doesn't work, then like others have mentioned on this forum, I'd check the Palms. travelzoo.com often has coupons.

I've never used them, but you could also look at Southwest Vacations. They have package deals to Vegas.

I have found the Orleans to give less and less for the same amount of play. I used to get monthly comp room offers, now every 2/3 months. Play has been the same but frequency of offers has declined ! A good alternative would be the Palace Station. Tower Rooms are better than Orleans standard room, table limits always $5.00 and up. Buffet isn't as good as Orleans but for $8.00 you can get dinner. Poker room is considerably smaller at P.S. too. Vp is better though!

I might try that... so far there's no trip on the books, but it would be nice to be remembered before Halloween.
