Seattle

Curious about what there is to see and do in Seattle.
We are going on a cruise in May, but spending 3 night in Seattle prior to cruise.
Staying close to Pier 66 at the Marriott. I know for sure we will do Pike Place, see the space needle, but looking for info on what else there is to do in that area.
We are wine drinkers, foodies, like craft beer/pub atmosphere.
Any info on the "food tours" around Pike Place?? Thanks!!

 

There is plenty to do in Settle. The obvious ones you have already mentioned, the Space needle, and Pike Place. There is a nice zoo (woodland park zoo) . There are some really nice restaurants right on Lake Union which is just a bit north of downtown, and you could even catch the lake union streetcar downtown and it takes you right to Lake Union. Daniels Broiler is a nice place to eat. Downtown there is Mortons steakhouse which has amazing food. If you want a night of fun, the Snoqualmie casino isn't a far drive away, or for a relaxed carefree night Gameworks has video games and drinks and cheap food.

There is the seattle science center, EMP, the Chihuly glass museum, space needle, and more all in one location which is a great way to spend the day and you can even buy a booklet to these that offer discount admission and stuff.

There might be a good show you might want to see playing at the Paramount theater. There is the great wheel you could ride. The aquarium really isn't worth the time IMO, and they recently cleaned off the famous "gum wall" but while downtown you could visit and add your own piece to the newly growing wall.

There is a "haunted" underground seattle tour a lot of people like where they tell you all about the history of the city.

 

Morton's? Every good-sized city under the sun has a Morton's. So, thinking the idea is to eat well and interestingly in one of America's rapidly ascending food cities (that wasn't something one would say not all that long ago): Lark, Tavolata, Serious Pie, Etta's, the Walrus and the Carpenter, Toulouse Petit, Le Pichet, Salumi, Lecosho, Manolin, to name a few.

And if you want a tour of the top-floor residence of the Escala tower ...

Glad to hear the aquarium is a bust, I wish they would shut them ALL down.

 

We booked an Alaskan Cruise out of Seattle July 2015 and of course we did the usual Tourist things like
The Pikes Market and the Top of the Space Needle, saw the original Starbucks etc. We booked a Tour Tram
that drove us around the city to see the highlights but the one thing I wish I had known about in advance is that
we could have taken a tour of the Boeing Aircraft Plant. I think that would have been awesome!

I'll echo the suggestion for the Boeing factory tour. The tour is at the Boeing facility is located in Mukilteo. Information on the tours is found here:

No Seattle expert here, but we have been 3 times w/o a car. Two years ago I took a city bus to Museum of Flight and it was an easy trip. I thoroughly enjoyed the museum. We were staying downtown and I don't remember bus routes, but we weren't that far from the cruise line docks.

 

Sonya makes a good point about the ferry. You can go to Bainbridge Island or to Bremerton where they have the Naval shipyard, naval museum and a destroyer you can tour.

If you like the outdoors I would also suggest a day trip to Mount Rainier.

 

Yes, yes, yes. That is one BIG rock, each side so diverse, just not like many other Cascadian volcanoes. Or head down to St. Helens. So stunning, compelling, still disturbing for those of us who remember her as she once was.

 

Haha a big ROCK.. So funny cause my husband is a geologist and Im a geo-tech so we love rocks! lol.
Sounds like we will have to check out some of the scenery.

There's Beecher's if you're into cheese. For beer the Elysian Fields brew pub near the football stadium is nice as is Pyramid Brewing which is nearby too.

The nice thing about Beecher's is that there's this wonderful thing called the interweby and this other wonderful thing called a kitchen, and one need not stop by Beecher's to get a great mac-n-cheese fix. (We also order in Cougar Gold cheeses from Wazzu.)

Seattle is awesome, and as a good bit of the famn damily's orientation is shifting from Portland to Seattle, we can have two of our fave cities more readily.
