I live in Nebraska and have 60 days of cold to go before going to Vegas to play, I thought I would read a book.

Just read a post and seen a comment that Hobofrank is reading a craps book.

Did'nt want to hijack the thread and also thought I'd like to get some info from craps junkies that have read some books..

I have only read one craps book; The Dice Doctor by Sam Grafstein. I enjoyed it, and was wondering if anybody had other books on dice they liked.

His book is old school, and was wondering if any young guns have published a book with any modern ways of thinking. I am guessing probably not, but who knows. (I am 49, and not too old to hear a younger man thoughts, but usually stick to what the old guys have learned the hard ways, LOL)

Also, I am not novice, but also am not a expert.

PS-I hate encyclopedias, and like the author to be a gambler.

Just stay away from John Patrick's books. He does not trust mathematics and his opinions cannot be confused by facts.

    Thanks for the book info.

The Dice Doctor is a fun book. By the end of the book, his style is well engrained due to him repeating his beliefs often.

You should try to find a copy of Craps with Einstein by Mickey Day which I bought at the Gamblers General Bookstore in Vegas years ago. It is a fun read with a number of unusual strategies and systems. The premise is that while Einstein was working on the Manhattan Project in Alamos, NM, he would take an occasional side trip to Vegas and apply his mathematical genius to the game of craps. It is a great book on craps, second only to the Dice Doctor, IMHO.

Second on the Scoblete books. I'm still on the fence as to whether anyone can actually control the dice, but he's a good writer and he gives other solid, mathematically based advice on Craps and other games.

After I was ordering the Scoblete book on Amazon. It suggested I order a order a book called

    "No-Nonsense Craps" by Richard Orlyn.

Anybody read this one? $12.95 out since 2008.

I have the book "Forever Craps" by Scoblete which attempts to sell his Five step program.

Not bad but includes a lot of fluff.

The only thing I didn't like about Scoblete's book (can't recall which one) is how he berates anyone who plays the props bet then next chapter talks about a Craps session and how he was doing all prop bets.
He does enjoy telling stories and promoting his other books.

Yeah the thing with Scoblete is he adives you not to do it (prop bets) but is honestly as much a gambler as anyone...so in his stories you see him breaking his own rules on a heater with a highly qualified shooter

But dice influence aside..he has legit adivice...still a better read than the uber math nerd Stanford Wong's "Wong on dice" which is a nerds version of dice influence

I agree. What I didn't care for by reading his books is that he belittles the reader, calling all of us clueless and incapable of doing the "right thing". Well, fine but there's a more civil way of putting that across in my opinion. He's not a very good writer but he has a great talent for making people feel small and insignificant. Instead of suggesting things he comes across as "the authority and supreme expert" know it all that we must follow and adhere to at all costs. LOL on that!

After a couple of chapters I started thinking "enough of this berating and belittling, just shut up already".

A lot of his chapters contradict each other. I can't find his book. I must have thrown it away.

I wish there is an easy way to learn Craps.
As someone said in another thread, I tried to learn it, but was too intimidated and chickened out in the end.
To me, Craps is so crap, I mean so complicated.

My old GF taught me...you just need someone to remjnd you to ignore tbe middle at first and always ignore the other half of the table because its just a mirror imzge of what's in front of you

With less to keep track of or distracted by?...suddenly it makes sense

I have two books that Mr. Scoblete sent me for free via an offer from Southern Gaming Magazine a few months back, one of which is "I am a Dice Controller", the other is "Virgin Kiss". In your opinion, is Dice Controller worth a read? I'm fairly skeptical at least of myself being able to control the dice, but maybe there's other good info included?
