Cosmo or Venetian

I have only stayed in Las Vegas a couple of times and would love some guidance in relation to which hotel would be a better choice? The Cosmo or Venetian? Not big gamers just enjoy views, shopping, shows and food. Also, are the rates a bit cheaper the first part of July (when it's really hot) or not necessarily? Thanks so much for your help.

 

The big selling point at the Cosmo is the balconies. If buffets are your thing, note that the Cosmo has a very good one, while Venetian doesn't have one at all. If views are your thing, you can't go wrong with Cosmo, and you may or may not go wrong with Venetian, depending on where you land in the hotel. Neither of them have very good gambling at the lower end, so they're about even on that front. Show-wise, you won't find much at the Cosmo, but right next door is Bellagio with O, Aria with Zarkana, and not far are the MGM with Ka, and Mandalay Bay with Michael Jackson One (which you should see if you are at all a Cirque fan). Venetian doesn't have much in the way of shows, but down that direction is Mystere at Treasure Island and Le Reve at the Wynn.

You didn't mention your age, but fair warning that the crowd at Cosmo is considerably younger and louder than it is at Venetian. If it's in the budget, my recommendation would be to get a wraparound suite at Cosmo with a Bellagio fountain view. During the summer they aren't crazy expensive...$300-$400/nt.....which is probably the best bang for your buck of any suite in Vegas - 1200 sq ft with a massive balcony that wraps around the side of the building, nice kitchen, and amazing views of the Bellagio fountain show and the rest of the strip. It's also right next to Aria/City Center/Crystals. If you don't want to pay that much, make sure that you at least get some kind of room with a balcony if going to Cosmo - not all Cosmo rooms have them.

So, Venetian is relatively expensive for the room you get, has a considerably older and more relaxed crowd, possibly with good views if you wind up in the right room, and has some (very) high end shopping along with some great, very high-end food options. Cosmo is a better value, with better views, balconies, good food options (but the restaurants generally are not as high-end as Venetian), and is closer to everything that people generally go to Vegas for, but you'll likely have to put up with thousands of drunk twenty-somethings when you decide to leave your room (which may be a good or bad thing, depending on your objectives).

I would choose Cosmo every time over Venetian (I am 43).... I agree with everything Fish said as well, but, one part I wouldn't say is as dramatic. While you can run into some drunk 20 somethings at Cosmo, they are usually making their way into or leaving the club.

 

I prefer Cosmo as well.

The Terrace Studio is a good and reasonably-priced option. It's a suite and comes with a balcony which is nice for a change. I also like how there's much less walking compared to some of the bigger properties. From the second floor shopping arcade you walk straight into the overhead pedestrian bridge in the center of the strip.

And Cosmo used to be a lot more expensive than it is now. Seems like new management lowered room prices.

 

I'd like to piggyback on this thread instead of starting a new one. We stayed at Vdara a couple of years ago and V/P (Palazzo actually) last year. Considering doing Palazzo again this year but have also been considering the Cosmo as we love the center strip area.

One thing I liked about Palazzo was the self parking garage. It was just so easy to get in/out and we do like to get out in the car a bit for things like Valley of Fire. Anyway, how does the parking at Cosmopolitan compare? Is it as convenient as Palazzo?

 

We stayed at the Cosmo a few weeks ago and they no longer had a coffee pot in the room and we did have a veranda, but the seat out there was so small and low it was ridiculous. Also, we were very disappointed in their gambling options.

 

The Cosmo hasn't had coffee pots in the rooms for years because people kept stealing them.

 

I was just wondering about coffee pots, I hadn't noticed as I don't drink it, but my sister does. People stealing them, really, rolling my eyes...

 

They were nice machines, not your standard Mr. Coffee machines like in other properties. Believe me or don't.

People will steal anything not bolted down if they think they can get away with it.

 

I've had guests take the chinchilla throw blanket, vases, and believe it or not, the handset to the telephone, the banana looking B&O sets. Amazes me that I associate with people like that... Lol

Cosmo has a lot smaller of a casino than Venetian if that matters to you or not.

I enjoy the cosmo rooms (terrace studio) much better than standard rooms at Venetian. I never stayed in a City Room at Cosmo but I suspect the Venetian rooms may be better.

 

We've parked only once at the Palazzo, so not sure if I can give an adequate answer. But we have stayed at the Cosmopolitan for 6-days. And we absolutely loved the garage at Cosmo. Both are underground. But Cosmo, in my opinion is way more advanced with the "Christmas lights" which indicate either red or green for which parking stall is occupied (or not). Also, on each level, there's a display which tells you how many free parking spots are available. In my opinion, both garages are great. But, the Cosmo wins hands down for accessibility in which you could turn left (or right) onto Harmon.....or if you dare, exit to the North and deal with the never ending crosswalk pedestrians to get onto LV Blvd.
