I've never used either service before. I'm assuming the answer is yes.

From what I understand, Uber you have to give a cash tip (app doesn't support it) but Lyft you can add it right on the app. How much do you tip? The standard 20%?

Planning on using one or both when I'm out in January and I want to make sure I don't forget anyone!

I would tip Uber/Lyft drivers similar amounts to taxis, so likely a higher percentage. Not like they will be making a better base rate than actual cabbie. And they are wearing out their own car to drive people around!

I agree with the first part, but the wear and tear issue is a non starter.

Never used either but I thought one of the appeals of Uber was no tipping allowed?

We have tipped Uber each time. They have always been appreciative and polite.

I generally do not tip the uber driver. They are making a majority of the fare. One of the nice things about uber is you don't get hustled for tips.

I've used lyft once and tipped the driver via the app. Good thing I did because I left my keys in the car and she returned them the next day. I've never tipped an uber driver. Their business model is to be a 100% cashless service. If they wanted me to consider a tip then an option should exist in the app.

Uber charges a slightly higher rate than Lyft, so I only use Lyft and I always tip at least a few bucks

I don't tip, the drivers get from 70-80% of the fare.

What's the advantage of using these services vs a taxi?

Cheaper, better drivers, cleaner vehicles, don't need cash, less wait for a ride.

The uber business model was made not to tip, and to do so requires cash. Also per ubers policies a driver must refuse a tip twice before accepting. I'll continue not to tip and don't feel even a little guilty.

My best friend is a Uber driver. They receive 75% of the fare for compensation plus flat rate bonuses for getting people to sign up. They are not supposed to accept tips but everyone does. You not suppose to tip either, but everyone has become so used to tipping it is now common practice to tip all drivers.

We used Uber 3x on our most recent trip to Vegas. We live in a rural community, so first time using Uber at all.

Every single time was a great experience. Absolutely loved it, great cars, easy rides, friendly drivers. We switched hotels twice during our stay (pre-planned), and took uber from one to next (M Resort to Rio; Rio to Palazzo). Both times the Uber driver helped my wife with her (very heavy) luggage as I was taking care of mine. I planned to do hers for her, they beat me to it.

I happily tipped the driver each time, they were always very appreciative. I know they get a majority of the fare, but I always try and reward good service without trying to guess what the individual providing said service might be earning aside from the tip. In our instances every tip was highly deserved.

I think I would tip a guy that went above and beyond like that.
