I've noticed some stickmen like to encourage people to make prop bets, which as we know have a massive house advantage.

I found myself wondering if they are bonused or incented (by the casino) to do this?

On one hand, the house has obvious reasons to encourage this. On the other, the stickman is also motivated by tips, which are likely to be higher if the players do better (and that's less likely to happen with lots of sucker bets.)

    Thoughts?

Yes, they have to "sell" the prop bets; it's their job.

Although the house edge is high on the prop bets, so are the dealer tips. Or at least I would guess this. How often do you see a player tip on an even money win?

    You're definitely beating me a lot lately...:evillaugh

FWITW, I had a dealer ask me if I wanted to put our my odds, one of the lowest house edge bets when I was rolling at Golden Gate.

I never tip on a particular win. I get the crew into the action quite a bit (betting for them) as we go, and I tip generously at the end of the session after I color up.

I don't really see them pushing prop bets that much.

I definitely see them pushing tip bets.

I've never really seen them try to sell the bets on the middle. I've been asked occasionally if I wants a hard number as I play the don't and sometimes use the hard way as a hedge.

I don't think they have any incentive, it is just a big part of their job. With house advantages on those bets ranging from 9% - 16%, the casino needs those bets to make craps profitable. If every player only bet the pass line with odds, I don't think craps would exist in Vegas; they couldn't cover the labor costs associated with running the table.

Yeah, as others have said, even though the HA is high, it is for tips. People with a big unlikely hit are more likely to tip, and more likely to tip large compared to their initial bet.

At a quiet table the stick guy is often bored so does it to bring some life to the table and also keep himself awake.

As has been stated, no real incentive, but they want you hitting those bets, the more you win, the more you tip (or so they hope).

Right -- but the more prop bets you make, the less you win. ;)

They want you betting and winning the props so that you will bet on prop bets for them. Every time I toss in some odd singles and say dealer's choice they go straight to the middle.

There is no financial incentive to the stickman to push the prop bets. They do this to add excitement to the game and for customer service. Customer service is when they see your prop bet fall to ask you specifically if you want to return on the bet. Keeping the games exciting is important. That is why a roulette dealer always keeps their wheel spinning even without players at the table.

This. I completely agree the high HA bets draw tips and so they push them, but there is one other thing that leads to tips and that is good service.

Just as often as hawking "hardways and yo bets" to veterans, I see solid and sound (albeit fast) advice to newbies to keep them comfortable and look for a tip and/or player to spend some time playing the intimidating game of craps(which is how non-players view our loud and raucous table)

My sense is the stickman is making a subtle call for a two way prop bet....

Everybody wants to make a buck but the casino does not give them incentives to push the prop bets.

The only time I've been asked about prop bets is when I've consistently been betting the all/tall/small and then forget to put it back up. Other than that, I've heard dealers do a general patter after the point is set ("hardways, anyone?") or on the come out roll ("C&E, yo, now's the time"), but I can't recall ever encountering a dealer trying to sell me on the prop bets. If you see it happening, it could be that there are players who've been at the table a while and have been betting props, so it's meant more as a reminder. Craps can move quickly enough that you forget to make the bets you want.

It is pretty common to throw out extra money for a two way hardway, so that would be incentive enough.
