Best rooms for working in Vegas

I have, on occasion, had to do laptop work while in Las Vegas for Veeblefetzer. Sometimes training courses that can be done remotely like "Know Your Grommet Sizes", "Mouse Skills: Not Just For Dweebs Any Longer", and "Field Stripping Cigarettes - The Lost Art (sponsored by Mark Ten).

I'd like to build a list of which hotels/room types are best for getting some work done on the ole lappy (computer, not the dance). Requirements are:

- good desk-height work surface with easily accessible power (extra points for view)
- proper desk chair (adjustable height etc., wheels, spins)
- solid WiFi connection
- extras (quiet, Keno channel in the room for surreptitious gambling, view, etc)

Wynn/Encore (EnWynn)

Probably the best room for working on a laptop I've encountered. Nice and quiet too, in case you are on a work call.

Desk: 10/10
Chair: 10/10
WiFi: 8/10
Keno: dream on, it's Wynn
Extras: if you move the chair to the other side of the desk in the Encore King rooms, you can gaze out the floor to ceiling windows. Nice.

Luxor Tower Player Deluxe Room

I had one of these on my solo trip and it was great for working on the trip report. Bonus points for the wet bar - you could stand and work if you wanted to stretch your legs, and... wet bar, duh.

Chair: 4/10 - just a straight chair, not that comfy

El Cortez Cabana Suites King room

I don't think I could work from one of these, there's no real surface to work from.

El Cortez standard tower room

Last time I stayed in one of these, there was a little desky thing that was okay for working. Lousy chair though.

Downtown Grand

One of the best rooms for working. They have a great work surface, excellent wifi, and a real chair, good enough for the Fontainbleu...

Four Queens

There is a little table and a straight chair so you can kind of work. If you are in the wrong room it's gonna be noisy though.

Plaza

Plaza has some of the same furniture as the Downtown Grand including their superior working chairs.

California - standard room and parlor suite
The other suites we've had really weren't much better for working. Small dining type table with typical kitchen/dining chairs.

Desk: 4/10 table, wrong height
Chair: 4/10 - had to use an armchair and 9 pillows

Main Street

Desk: 5/10 actually a makeup table
Chair: 1/10 ottoman, last time I stayed there - update me if wrong

T.I. - strip view double queen standard room

Prior to retiring I, sadly, had to keep up at the office while vacationing in Vegas. I found Venetian/ Palazzo to be the best for working. The convenience of the printer and fax machine in the room was a plus.

 

I will agree with this,the small 'office space' off the living room area was pretty cool to have everything wired up and ready just for casual stuff and not real business in my case.

I have always found the Plaza wifi to be strong and fast....and free if you are there on a comp.

 

Was this a suite or a regular room? Never stayed at VP.

You know the Mansion villas have a great desk setup, very large, nice chair, fast Wi-Fi, quiet and undisturbed....

I thought it would be perfect but every time I thought I was going to be able to get some good work done I get distracted by the amazingness of the Mansion.

Ordering some food, standing on the balcony listening to the fountains, going down to the casino.

There's just too much to do to work.

 

They're all "suites"......sunken livingroom area and separate bedroom area. Even the basic suite has the printer/fax office area.

 

This sounds like something I should check out. Never stayed there. Nothing to play on VP though...

 

Hey Flushie, just to give credit where credit is due, the El Cortez has very good wifi in their tower rooms. 4Q's has a tendency to cut in and out but the Cortez is solid.

Wifi should probably just have three values, shitty, ok, and great.

 

If we're talking basic rooms, I've found Mandalay Bay to be pretty good. Aria has great wifi, but the glass-top desk is kind of awkward to type on, especially because the desk lamp interferes with placement of my laptop (I guess I could move it, but it's still annoying -- the laptop is too tall and the lamp isn't adjustable). Bellagio always bothered me, too, due to the aforementioned glass-top desk and sometimes-spotty wifi. I haven't stayed at Mirage in a while but distinctly remember hating the desk setup.

Honestly, I do most of my work at Lift Bar. There are outlets, the chairs are comfortable, and someone brings me drinks!

 

One of the reasons I settled on the Hard Rock was exactly this reason. Their HRH Tower completely fits the bill for me regarding work, as I often will have a meeting in the morning and one later on in the afternoon. HRH Tower has it's own valet and the elevator is very convenient to it. I can get in and out very quickly, which is not something that the standard Las Vegas can generally offer. The rooms in the HRH Tower are well constructed and usually quiet, unless there's a keg party going on next-door (which does happen sometimes). Noise from above or below is non-existent. The desk and chair are very functional and nice sized to accommodate the laptop, a notebook and anything else one needs. The wi/fi blazes! It used to be free, now they have it tiered, but there's still a free one.

 

I vote the Wynn/Encore as the best working environment. Some years ago, I did an emergency re-org of our system VSAM files at midnight in my Four Queens room. That was interesting.

 

What year was that? Retired now and I haven't seen or heard of VSAM in a long time. In my earlier days I was a Systems Programmer so I hate that word.

I just put that kind of thing out on DASD and forget about it.

 

I rented a Vdara panoramic suite one week I was going to be in Vegas doing work and I thought it worked out pretty well.

 

Yep! Thanks for converting to the format! The chair is pretty good though... it rolls well, leans back, has side-arms, though not sure about adjustments. The coked-out strippers and VP groupies are adjustable.

 

I've heard that horsedick.mpeg has had BJs in many of those chairs. \m/

Probably 7 or 8 years ago. I also ran a complete Financial Aid purge process sitting inside a Four Queens room. I work at a college. My first trip to Vegas in 2001 I attended a work conference. I was pulled off the Mandalay Bay casino floor to fix a production problem. I sat with my team in the hotel room brainstorming a problem. Not fun.
