I know this is an unfair comparison but, who has stayed at both and which one would you choose and for what reason ? This would be a weekend in late February.

I stayed at the Trop four years ago and thought the rooms were fine.

The only issue I had with the Trop was it just seemed like a blah place. Casino much too puny for a Strip hotel.

Just boils down to whether you want to stay on the Strip or downtown. I like playing tables and appreciate the low minimums with decent rules that downtown still offers. And all of the Golden Nugget's classes of rooms are just fine, IMO.

I'd personally go with the Nugget and venture to the Strip if you want a break from downtown at some point during your stay.

I can't comment on the Tropicana, but agree with hail2skins that even the Carson Tower rooms at the Nugget are fine. I'm posting just to point out that if you stay at the Tropicana and want to get downtown it's easy - walk diagonally across the street to the bus stop on Tropicana in front of New York New York and catch the WAX express bus to downtown. If you're downtown, to get back, do the reverse - catch the WAX across the FSE from the Nugget (to the North) and it will drop you off right in front of the Tropicana. Less than 30 minutes each way.

I forgot to mention that we have a car....don't know if that it will make a difference. Is there one that would be easier for parking ?

I don't think self-parking will be an issue at either.

What games do you like to play? Slots/VP or tables, and what limits do you like to play at?

I think low-limit table players should probably stay downtown, while others might tend toward the Strip. But again, overall, I think the Trop as a whole is fairly underwhelming.......although you'll have plenty of cool places nearby to walk to if that is your choice.

I would think $50/hand blackjack would find better conditions on the Strip.

I go to Vegas usually 1-2 times per year, but am a low roller and have stayed almost exclusively downtown.

Unfortunately, blackjack conditions have really worsened on the Strip in the past couple years to the point where its challenging to find games that pay 3/2 for a blackjack below the $25 level. What I'm thinking, though, is that at the $50 level, you should be able to find games that not only pay 3/2 but also where the dealer stands on soft 17. You won't find the latter rule at all downtown.

I just don't know what the conditions are at the Trop specifically. Its one of those places that seems like its rarely talked about. Just don't think there's much of an energy to the casino.

These days I prefer DT over the strip, especially if my intent is to gamble. Love the rush tower at Nugget, haven't stayed at Trop since maybe the 80's so couldn't give an opinion there

You'll be very pleased. GN Rush Tower rooms are among the best standard rooms in all of Vegas; and as for the price they simply can't be beat. Hope you have a great trip!!! :peace:

I have stayed at both multiple times and they are totally different. Hard to compare properly but the Trop just underwent an upgrade if new is your thing. Casinos are near both even with the Trop being on the strip. GN seems to have more class but that could just be me.
