So anyone a fan of this game? Once in Vegas I broke the cardinal rule of playing a game not knowing the strategy.

But it seems that the losses pile up (I know confirmation Bias) the house edge is listed as 4% or so.

Has anyone has success with this game? It seems like a quick bleed unlike let it ride which is a slow bleed.

Convince me to give this game a shot!

I would be doing you a disservice to convince you to play it, but I do from time to time. Easy to blow several hundred fast; othertimes it'll run steady; but the thing I like is there will be a few big wins in the $500-2000 range if you're willing to get up and leave after a big hit. This is at $5 level.

WoO says the house edge is close to 5% but the "element of risk" is 1.37%; so in my degenerate mind this is a tolerable edge. :) Strategy is not to hard and there is an online game that will teach strategy as well. Do not listen to anyone at the table who say to see one every time or any other hocus pocus. Just I have folded a boat and four of a kind 5-2 before. Long term it was worth it no question.

4Q has it downtown and I think some Harrah's casinos on the strip. I once played it at Circus Circus plowed at like 3am on a New years too. Actually come to think of it I am usually plowed when I play it. :)

Best hand I've ever had in actual play was only a flush, though I have done much better playing on my phone. But anyway, it takes a lot of discipline. Chasing is like setting hondos on fire. Wizard of Odds has the house edge at 4.91% which is 5 in my book. If you can stand the self-flagellation that comes with folding many hands that turn out to be winners, like a 2-5 unsuited only to see trip ducks turned up or a full house made then this game might be for you.

On an unrelated note - I saw you representing on another post - I was born at St. Margaret's in Hammond, IN and lived there until I was 10. Still have some family in the area but most migrated in the 70s/80s. Cheers from Champaign-Urbana!

I've played it, and it's a VERY high-variance game... I'mnot really a fan, since you must commit in order to see cards.
I much prefer UTH, where you can 'check' to see the flop, and check again if you wish to see the turn/river.
That way, if you pull the magic quads or full-house, you still win (nicely, if you're playing the 'trips' bet...which everyone does).
Easy strategy too... WoO has one on his site, plus a practice program.
    Check it out.

Yeah I saw the 4% and missed out on it I played it at Binions.

What bankroll do you play with at $5 level. Leaving after a big win will not be a problem for me!

Cheers. I am on the SE side of the city now. I go to Chambana for almost every Illinois FB game I have season tickets. My kid was born at Community in Munster. I had my appendix taken out at St. Margaret.

Thanks for the tips, yeah it may bother me, but I am unsure. I usually follow the rules.

My favorite game. Its addicting and makes you chase WAY too much, but my first time playing at the GN downtown I hit quads on my thrid hand. $10 initial bet turned into $4600. Been hooked ever since and I know I haven't played that much back into it. Wins come in waves, you have to sit down with enough money to ride it out. You have to realize its a "point system" game and not chase hands. If Im not holding paying cards (A, K, Q, J) I will fold most of the time.

Actually I never play trips.

I do like UTH a lot. I did like variance in my VP play. So I may not like Miss Stud. The strategy is easy and I nailed it down. I am willing to give it a try though.

    Me neither!

I tried MS online to learn how to play. Seemed like it was very high variance which I don't like so I never played it live. I do like UTH though.

When I first started to play UTH, I only played the trips bet about every 4 or 5 hands or so...anytime I had 3 or 4 consecutive hands without trips or better, I'd put $5 on the trips bet.
Since then, I've switched to a strategy of $10-$10-$5 (ante-blind-trips).
This has (so far) been pretty effective.

I've also noticed that the vast majority of players are on the trips bet every hand.
Obviously, not everyone plays it every time - I used to be one that didn't... but still - most everyone does... same with the pair-plus in 3-card.

Dealer always yells at me for not playing. It is one of those things for me I need to mentally commit to playing it or not. I do not wanna be on or off it in case I hit a big score on the off.

Often I will commit to it when I am up and doing well to increase my bankroll. As a sucker bet though a table with full pay trips and not as bad as others. I usually have a smaller BR and just would rather play longer.

I also never play Pai Gow side bets either, well I will on a commission table some times but only a buck. Never $5.

Do you find playing trips is better or not? Jut curious.

Well, I figured out that, mathematically, it hits about every 7th hand.
At $5, that's $35 to win an average of about $25.
I found this on the 'beatingbonus' website:
    So, out of 39 hands x $5 bet (we'll ignore the quads & better hands), you'll lose 33, you hit trips 2 times ($15x2), you hit a straight 2 times ($25x2), you'll get 1 flush ($30) & 1 full-house ($40).
    So - you'll lose $5 x 33 (-$165) and win $150. Net result is a loss of $15 for a risk of $195.

Not bad at all for a 'sucker bet'.
If you're going to play it periodically, the best strategy would be to wait for a few non-trips hands in a row to come up, then play it until it hits a flush or better. After hitting that flush or better, stop unless you're net-positive on the trips play. If you are positive, play it until you're 'even' or hit another flush or better, whichever comes first. Rinse. Repeat.

(PS - yes, I realize that each hand dealt is an independent event... the deck has no memory. The odds of a payout on the trips bet is always 1-in-7).

I think you convinced me to play it all the time my friend.

Yeah I do not think I can do periodically cause it would drive me nuts missing out if I lost.

If I bet the bonus I am all in.

Haha I just hijacked my own thread!

Are most of the trips pay tables downtown this that you know of? Or where can I find these downtown (5 tables is usually what I play) $10 if on strip I will do.

Golden gate, Plaza, theD all have it at $5, but as you know, that really means you have $20+ out there for any hand you don't fold, and $15 lost if you do fold.
    Good luck!

On the strip the Trips pay table is pretty much the same...crappy 50/40/30/8/7/4/3/1. The best trips pay table I have seen is at one of my locals, Barona...they pay 9 for full house, 7 for flush, and 5 for straight.

My Lady played it at Harrahs NOLA a few years ago. On her third of fourth hand she hit a full house for $800 ($5 bets). So of course, she loved the game and gave back five hundred. We put the game on our computer at home. That taught me to never play it in a casino ever again. It burned "money" like a blowtorch.

9/7/5 is player edge at UTH. Do you mean 9/7/4? ;)

I have heard SLS and M Resort are 8/6/5. PHo used to be 9/7/4, but no longer.

And since you don't like DDB much wanker, playing MS stud is a big gamble. Let it ride on steroids!

agree that MS Stud is a money sucker. Even at $5 level, you could easily blow $500 without hitting any good hand.
